What are some uses of Camphor in spell casting?

Re: Camphor
Hi jwmcclin,
Camphor is most often used for spiritual cleansing and protection: the classic usage is to spiritually cleanse a room, and then seal/protect it by placing a square of camphor with a silver dime one top of it in each corner of the room.
Hope this helps!

Camphor Resin Questions and Answers
I understand that the camphor cubes are often placed in corners of rooms/house, however, I'm curious to know if I can put them in small glass jars, perhaps with lids with holes punched in them?
I ask because I have one cat who must sniff and lick just about everything he come in contact with and for obvious health/safety reasons I don't want him licking camphor! *lol*
Thanks for any help/advice in advance.

Camphor resin can also be burned, of course. But your idea is probably the best if your pet is the kind who eats stuff like that. The same would go for other resins used as corner markers or protection pieces -- uch as Pine resin.

I honestly have no idea if he would eat it or not, but he's a weird one to begin with...cries to go outside to eat grass every day; goes absolutely batty for mango naked juice smoothies, and whines if I don't give him some of my frozen fruit bars. So I'm not really going to risk it since he's already got a history of liking odd things for his species!

Also a good Idea for those of us who not only have curious pets, But curious young children as well. I have often had to make simple adjustments to insure safety from consumption or contact with the little ones around. I have hung small packets of the necessary's from the ceiling in corners of the room to keep curiosity's Grip away

Re: Camphor use question
Willow, I thought about doing that, however I'm one of those who at least partially subscribes to some of the principles of Feng Shui and I get twitching about random things hanging or placed places and looking 'cluttered', so baby food jars tucked into corners by the baseboard heaters will be less obvious
And slightly off-topic, but I love the bits of brainstorming and modifying I see on the forums. I completely understand Cat's position of wanting her students to learn one way first, but time and technology do force ANY living belief system to change and adapt somewhat. I look at it like any living language. You must master the basics first in order to be able to 'play' with the vocabulary and structure and have it still be relevant, later.

Re: Camphor use question
Very well spoken Maljen.
Tradition and the firm knowledge of it is defiantly necessary prior to any adjustments that may be considered. You have to know what your working with before you can attempt to modify it to suit your needs.
On the note of my packets. lol sometimes I have folded them into a shape relevant to the work I am doing. Often times when people have seen them hanging in the corners of my house they simply assume it was artwork done by my older son. At times he has given assistance to the folding and design so is more then happy to take credit when mentioned.
I simply add the additional components later. lol It works. Right now I have stars in each corner dangling from a string filled with protective and peaceful powders and oil. To name a few, Salt, LM peaceful home powder, and drops LM Fiery Wall of protection oil. They are only about the size of the palm of my hand.
Just an idea for those who may have similar situations were not only discretion, but safety is needed

How do I use Camphor For Protection
I have a suspicion that I might need some protection from a spirit. I'm no newbie to magic, but I've never used Camphor, yet I hear it's the strongest stuff out there to banish unwanted ghosts and energies. I recall reading that one could cut up squares of it, and put it in the four corners of a room. I don't dare burn it as incense because I know the concentrated vapors can be harmful (even though it's used in certain cold remedies.) I'm going to order some from LM with my next order, but I wanted to be sure I was doing it right beforehand so I know for sure what all I need to get and do.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: How do I use Camphor For Protection
You can absolutely burn it. It's done everyday in many Eastern traditions. Just burn a wee little at a time, because it is pretty strong. Make sure you have a window at least cracked open as you burn it - which you should anyway if you are burning herbs for cleansing; the bad stuff needs a way to get out, so you want open windows.
I would burn it along with sage while saying prayers to move any unwanted energies away. In Martin Coleman's book Communing with the SPirits, he suggests making a tea with Yerba Mate and then washing the floors to move out spirits. Then once the smoke has cleared, seal all the windows, doors, vents, etc with something like Fiery Wall of Protection. Then put a square of camphor in each corner of the room to seal it off from spirit activity.
If you still experience problems after that, then you'll want to get a reading to determine the nature of the spirit, because it may be something more than you can handle.

Camphor Resin Squares Questions and Answers
I know this might sound crazy, but in my reading, which by the way was excellent. His name was ConjureMan Ali. I just received my supplies he asked me to get and I'm about to start my work, and I didn't want to bother him. I was told to take the 13 day herb bath and cleanse my house and put down camphor square. My question is:
1. Do I cleanse the house after the 13 baths are complete or while I'm doing the 13 day baths?
2. Regarding the camphar squares, do I crush the squares up? When they say put the camphor in the 4 corners of your home, does that mean in every room?
I'm new so thanks for your help in advance and may God bless you.

Re: ADVICE ON CLEANSING AND CAMPHOR SQUARES
1. I would cleanse the house before, or on the first day, of starting the baths to get your environment clean so you can focus on yourself.
2. I put full squares in the corners of a room I need cleansing in. If it says the four corners of your home, that just means the four furthest corners of the home. Not in each room of the house. Though you could do that if it was needed.

Re: Advice On Cleansing & Camphor Squares
Same here, had my reading done with CM Ali.
I did send him some questions regarding the recommended bathing cleansing and house cleansing too but I believe he is extremely busy so it'll take time for him to response
So perhaps I should get some advice here too.
I was told to bathe in rue, agrimony and salt (affected by the Evil eye which probably explains my constant sickness ) follow by reconciling with my sisters. Do I follow the bathing ritual of saying saying Psalm 23 and disposing the bath water at the crossroads?
Another question, I was told to dress my feet with protection oil by drawing a cross on my feet too. Do I also have to say a prayer whilst doing the dressing?
In addition, I've been visited by a malevolent entity last year so he also advice me to cleanse my house with Chinese Wash and burn the camphor squares (btw thanks for the silver dime on the camphor squares tip Cat!
) If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know, it'll be a great help.

Re: Advice On Cleansing & Camphor Squares
The advice given by ConjureMan Ali is perfectly sound and there's no need to add anything to it.
Yes, you always ritually dispose of bath water - so for cleansing baths, the crossroads is indicated.
Pray your petition while anointing yourself with the Protection oil. It doesn't HAVE to be a specific prayer, but you're welcome to use any prayer of protection that speaks to you, or just pray from the heart.

Re: Advice On Cleansing & Camphor Squares
dtmacon1, Lucky Mojo main website have an abundance of information. When I first came across 'hoodoo', I did my research. You need to do the same too. If CM Ali is well known amongst the hoodoo community and I'm very sure his advice is thorough and accurate. I'm no expert in this area therefore I cannot help you other than provide you the information links that taught me about bathing and cleansing information.
This link will bring you to bathing rituals: http://www.luckymojo.com/baths.html
If you do not have single idea of what is involved in hoodoo, you should read their history first.
http://www.luckymojo.com/baths.html#history
Also, in the forum Joseph states that you need to cleanse the house (that is cleaning down the house ritually such as with Chinese Wash). I don't think Joseph mentioned Chinese Wash because they would have presume as I would that CM Ali would have told you this.
If you did none of the above, chances are your situation have not change - which is probably the case. I'm sorry that's all I could do.

camphor vs Florida water
I was taught to use crumbled camphor mixed with water to set out for the spirits, but from what I'm reading, it looks as if people use Florida water in small bowls for the same purpose. Is there a benefit to using one over the other? Florida water hasn't been easy to come by until recently, so I'm trying to get a feel for what to do with it. I've been looking in the LM site and trying to educate myself, but that was a question that came up that I haven't gotten any clarity on (unless I'm overlooking something).
Thanks for your help!

Re: camphor vs Florida water
From what I know, Florida water added to water can be set out for spirits, it can also be used for general good luck, protection and of course cleansing. Camphor as far as I know has two main purposes...to drive away evil/negative spirits/energies and camphor can also be used to increase personal power. Some people put camphor blocks in corners of their homes other people add camphor to the floor wash. People also add Florida water to the floor wash as well. While camphor can be used to cleanse an environment of unwanted energy I've never heard it used like Florida water to actually cleanse a person...I also have never heard of putting camphor in water to set out for spirits. I've heard of holy water and Florida water for that but never camphor.

Ladyjeolives: You can crumble just a tiny bit in a glass of water. Place it near the bed for protection, or place the squares in each corner of the room for the same. If you have pets make sure they cannot accidentally drink from the glass.

Oh!!! Thank you Ms. Cat! I asked right as you must have been posting this. Is there any way that I can add these to my order that I made Friday? Do I call the store?

Call the shop and ask. You will have to make a new order, but you can ask that the add-on be shipped with the other order and if it is a small item, ask that they forego the shipping charge, or just add a buck, or whatever they need to do.
