Hello all!

Unread post by katializzibeth710 » Tue Oct 16, 2018 1:27 am

Hi guys, I'm Katia, a biracial Oregonian who is just starting out in rootwork. I'm in my twenties and I've been interested in Hoodoo for a few years now, but I finally feel that I've reached a point of spiritual "readiness" and am thusly seeking to begin what will hopefully become a lifelong practise. I come from a wonderful Afro-Belizean American and White (namely Seventh Day Adventist) family. Although, now that age has given me something of an eye for such things, I suspect that the folk medicine my grandmother practises might be comparable to some Belizean form of Hoodoo, at least in part.

Just as well, next to possibly having some familial background in this practice, my mother is an eclectic witch and medium. She provided a bevy of information and coached me in minor spellcraft throughout my teens. Now, while I showed an apparent knack for it, the Wiccan practise/religion was not one with which I could comfortably identify, so I left it and, after some extensive soul-searching, here I am.

I am an aspiring novelist on academic hiatus - namely due to finacial issues - although I intend to return to college for further study in English and Creative Writing in the next couple of years. For now, I'm simply trying to get my life in order, working in retail and paying bills, so the chance to refine this practise could not come at a better time for me.

Anyway, thanks for reading my little mini-autobiography, have a good night, and blessings to you all!

Welcome!

I was also a creative writing student, have a few novels sitting on my computer, unfinished.
I enjoyed learning about Wicca from my mother, who used to practice it, but I want to move on to different things at this point. Though it still holds a special place in my heart.

Hope to see you around!

@Edward T: Oh, thank you so much for your suggestions! II'm slowly working my way through the forums and hope to be ordering some literature (as well as a few curios I can't seem to find locally) here with my next paycheck. I'm really very excited about all of this, and I'm so happy I found this site! If you guys are still doing the Hoodoo coursework I would like to take the class as soon as I can prove that I'm here with serious intentions, (and that I'll turn in the homework!) but even if that's no longer available I've yet to find anything so helpful as this wonderful site!

@bluepluma: lol, that's me as hell! My ever-growing collection of unfinished work is one reason why I feel the need to go back to school, and maybe work up a little hoodoo to help me focus on my goals. Thanks for popping in and sitting through my bio, I hope to see you around, too!

Katializzibeth710,

Welcome to the Lucky Mojo forum, and thanks for introducing yourself!

These are links to general information on Hoodoo and to give you a jumping off point.

Hoodoo History:

Conditions and how we can address them:
http://luckymojo.com/hoodooataglance.html

Here is some info on how the forums are set up. It is divided into four parts:

1) News and Announcements about the Lucky Mojo Curio Company and this site.

2) Lucky Mojo Spiritual Supplies and how to use them, listed in threads by product type and product title.

3) Life Conditions and Situations, with recommended Lucky Mojo products, spells, and advice.

4) The Online Hoodoo Community, including sites, events, and outreach sponsored by Lucky Mojo.

When you post, it helps your moderators, who are recompensed volunteers, if you post in the area of the board that is best suited to the archival of your question or comment. That way moderators will not have to move your post or merge it into ongoing threads.

If you can't find a post you made, it may have been moved or merged. Go to your profile by clicking on your name and "search recent posts" -- you will find it.

Within each board section there are STICKY threads -- ones that always stay "stuck" to the top. These are popular discussion-threads that you can read and add to if your questions or comments fall into one of these oft-broached topics. If you don't see a "sticky" that relates to your question, feel free to start a new thread in the relevant section.

We do have a few "thou shalt not" rules here, and they can be found in the Forum Rules link at the top of each page. Most important for newbies are these four common errors to avoid:

1) Please do not come here asking for our formulas for conjure oils or for instructions on how to use spiritual supplies that you bought at a grocery store or at a competitor of ours; this is the Lucky Mojo Forum and is financially supported by the Lucky Mojo Curio Co.

2) Please do not post illegal copies of material from other web sites or from books.

3) Please do not post put-downs of any group of people based on their religion, race, or national origin, including derogatory comments

4) Please do not start new topics

5) Please do not quote people
