People of all spiritual backrounds take the Course. Not picturing God as a bearded man in the sky will not disqualify you.

I suggest that you start making the necessary purchases that are required before taking the Course and purchase Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic.

UniversalForce72,

I have no trouble teaching people of varied and various beliefs. All i ask is that they recognize -- as i had to recognize, having been born a Jew -- that what i was taught was utilized and maintained and passed down within a Christian and Christian-Spiritualist culture. That is, it is my intention to honour those whose tradition it actually is.

Yes, i have had difficulty teaching those who refuse to learn the use of the Psalms -- because the Psalms are a strong, really, effective, and major part of hoodoo -- but on the other hand i do not require that my students accept Jesus, ala Romans 10:9.

I have successfully taught this course to Muslims, Wiccans, Christians, Spiritualists, Jews, Hindus, and Buddhists -- but those who got the most out of it were those who respected, even if they did not profess, the Judeo-Christian basis of the black American culture-bearers who passed the tradition down.

You sound like you would be a very good student, and i would enjoy teaching you, i am sure.

My 2¢...

My personal religious views are...interesting. When I first began studying hoodoo, and as I have continued to learn more about American folk magic systems, I had to do some thinking about the part religion plays, and if I could practice in a respectful way, based on my religious views. The simple answer is yes. Like Miss cat said; it is important to respect the tradition you're working in. I am not a Christian, and yet I use the Bible, pray the Psalms, and heal using the Three Highest Names. I am respectfull of the traditions, and am able to do good work, within them.

Don't get hung up on the dogma. Learn and practice with sincerity.

The Psalms are in the Hebrew Bible, which Christians call the Old Testament. About half of them are notated as having been written by the Jewish musician and King David, others are attributed to musicians in his court, and several seem to have originated as Egyptian hymns, which some people think were translated into Hebrew during the time that the Jews were enslaved captives in Egypt. Therefore, they can be used by anyone who believes in God.

Just applied for the course, they are just going through my history now to see if I qualify. I look forward to seeing how things develop, and hopefully everything will be in an order and if so can't wait to finally talk with miss cat for the first, and if all goes well hopefully I will be accepted into the course something I've been dreaming about for the past ten years or so now that I've come of age. :) thank you for such a wonderful forum.

Unfortunately my interview won't be scheduled until maybe a few days-maybe a few weeks all depending on my next order. I was missing two prerequisites for the course (a herb and Chinese Wash), which I must have accidently marked off my list here at home. But thank you very much for your support Papa Newt! So I went and ordered those items and also bought a whole whack of other stuff to show my support, and show that my earnest and eagerness to take this course to better myself in hoodoo. Katrina, the woman I spoke to, was very lovely, she told me to call back today, thank you miss cat for your wonderful products and thank you for your lovely staff I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

I believe I have all the requirements for the course, and then some.
So what is the next step?
Order the Correspondence book and someone will contact me or do I just call the store?

Hi Orion,

you purchase the Correspondence Book and write ''I agree to the terms'' in the extra info box. You then call the shop once they've had a couple of days to process the order and confirm your purchase history so that you can book an appointment with Miss Cat. That simple :)

How to prepare BEFORE beginning CC program

Unread postby lprene » Sat May 25, 2013 12:32 pm

I just received my first shipment from LMCC. YAY!!! It includes the Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic book, Four Thieves Vinegar, a couple of roots, bath crystals and another item or two.

I want to be a serious student so want to take full advantage of the time I have now and when I actually begin the course. My questions concern the best way to prepare to begin the Correspondence Course between now and when I get the remaining supplies and then apply for the course:

Should the Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic book be read cover to cover -- or should I focus on the sections that correspond to my first set of purchases?

Should I actually be using the things that I purchased or should they be saved for when the course begins?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

--Iprene,

You'll come back to the green book over and over again. I'd suggest reading through it, at least once. That'll get you familiar with the material, and help you find what you need, when you reference it, later.

One of the reasons for the required purchase list is to be sure you're acquainted with the kinds of things that will be discussed in the course. You'll get to know them a lot better handling them and using them than just looking at them or reading about them.

Good Luck.

Hello,

I have an appointment on Aug. 13 with Cat, for the interview regarding the course. I was just wondering what to expect as far as conversation during the interview? I did read over a general description on the Lucky Mojo site, but I was curious about specifics. I' am really excited! Hopefully, if all goes well, I will be working on the course while finishing off some of my college classes for Fall semester!

baybee27: Miss Cat will ask you about yourself and your goals with the class. Be calm and be yourself and you will have no problems. So many people who are getting "interviewed" get very nervous and ask me what it was like. You want to know what is was like? A very pleasant conversation with Cat. That is what it consisted of and nothing more.

Hi goldentouch97,

The coursebook is a textbook and doesn't have illustrations. There are links given to Lucky Mojo web pages with images on them. To get further hand's-on visuals, students who graduate are encouraged to attend the apprenticeships at Lucky Mojo which are really the best way to get the practical experience. Many photos are already included here on the Lucky mojo site. These can be consulted as required.

Blessings.

If I can humbly offer my opinion on Catherine Yronwode's Correspondence Course. My opinion comes from two perspectives, first from a practitioner who was raised in this tradition. While I do not nearly have the experience of Cat, I learned conjure and hoodoo hands on from actual culture bearers of this tradition--like cat did herself. My second perspective is as an academic involved in history and anthropological research.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that there is no course like what Cat is teaching. Nothing comes close. I'm a relative late-comer to the hoodoo online scene and when I ran across Lucky Mojo, I knew I had to take the course. I knew plenty about hoodoo having inherited my teachers practice years earlier, but I submitted myself as a student and have absolutely no regrets. Not only is the course the single most comprehensive survey of various traditional hoodoo and conjure practices, but its scope and quality is worthy of graduate-level university courses.

I'm a down-home, traditional Virginian conjure man and am proud to be a graduate of Cat's Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course.

So, I finally have all that is required (and much more) before applying to the course, :D wonderful!
Now I am uncertain about some things;
1. Do I place the order for the course first (with "I agree with the terms") and ask for an interview after that or vice versa? I have seen both variations stated. And can I ask for the interview via email?
2. Since I live in Sweden I am a bit worried about having a telephoneinterview lasting an hour or more. The cost will probably be more than my required purchases and the course together! However, it will be worth it to get accepted for the course.
3. I do not know any African American but understand that I could get help in contacting (and Hopefully befriending) someone of that extraction. My question in regards to this is; could this contact be done through corresponding via email? Would that be acceptabel for homework # 2? The problem with expensive telephoneinterviews returns. :|
Thank you for a fantastic site!

Hi Sola Rite and congratulations on your deciding to undertake the course!

1. You place the order with ''I agree with the terms'' first and then ask for an interview date. Booking the interview by phone is usually your best bet.

2. Consider getting a Skype account, they have really reasonable arrangements for the distance vs. regular phone companies. That could be a more cost-effective alternative for you.

3. Once again, please refer to answer #2. Email contact is a good first step, but trust me when I tell you that it's not the same as talking to someone in person. A lot more comes out in a chat than in a letter. You should also address that concern directly with Miss Cat when you do your interview to be accepted into the course.

Blessings.

I thought I read in this forum (or one of the others) that Miss Cat didn't "do" Skype. Has this changed?
Even if not, I Will look into Skype for the chance of conversing with who ever would be willing to help me with the Homework #2 problem.

Hi Sola Rite,

Miss Cat doesn't do Skype calls. However, if you have Skype for a fee it is possible to call a land-line, it's just that those calls aren't free; they are however quite competitive as compared to a regular phone service provider.

Just to clarify; i do use skype for camera-connected and audio-only calls with co-workers and friends, but i do not use it as a telephone service, and i do not use it for course calls. In order to keep to my very full schedule in order, i handle certain matters in a routinized way that cannot impinge on my home life. Limiting course calls to the shop or church phone lines is one of the ways i do that. I have a lot of stuff going on, am busy all the time, and just have to set a certain set of boundary-limits with folks who want access to me via personal or private means, such as skype, email, or facebook. Thanks for understanding and i apologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone.

I've just made my first purchase order from Lucky Mojo, in an effort to start building my customer history in order to eventually apply to take the Correspondence Course! There were actually a few items on my personal shopping list that I needed already, and then I added on a few of the other purchase requirements. Living in New Orleans, I've been spoiled with easy access to many of these ingredients, but am very excited to start pursuing a formal training with this course! A friend of mine graduated and had wonderful things to say about it, and I am so enthusiastic to begin!

Preparing to Possibly Take the Course

Unread postby jpbollma » Fri Nov 22, 2013 10:28 pm

Good evening,

I am very interested in eventually taking the Hoodoo course. I have been immersing myself in the online "Theory and Practice" material, I have also read Hoodoo Rootwork and Hoodoo Candlework by Catherine. I have made several orders, and I am currently reading through the Black Folder (which by te way is amazing). I am also reading a book not related to the course at hand (The Magical Power of Saints). I have been an avid reader of books on tarot, astrology, and mythology in the past, and I really feel I would benefit from this course. I plan to begin posting more in regards to the items I have already purchased within other threads.

A question for those who have taken the course, are there certain products or books you recommend reading working with other than the items listed as mandatory?

When should I contact the shop and express interest in the course?

Thanks for any help!

Hi jbbollma, the required purchases are really a wide array of products to give you a feel, sense, smell, etc. of the different types of products and how they work. You get a really nice cross section of information. If you are looking for other products I would suggest that you see what you feel called to and go from there.

Best of luck!

Hello, I'm interested in the correspondence coursework. I have a question, because I didn't know about the store until late last night.

I plan on buying some herbs and other things. However, for the correspondence course, do I call Catherine or do I have her call me to interview me to see if I'm accepted?

I take religion very serious and would love to learn from her. However, I'm not sure what is the first step: Customer first or interview? Can someone let me know?

Hello,

In order to take my course you must be a customer for at least four months and you must purchase not only "some herbs" but all of the required books, CD, and spiritual supplies listed. You should click all of the links on the course page and read those pages too, about the homework, the method of teaching, and a few other topics of interest. You should have some connection to the African American community; for instance, if you are not black yourself, you should have black friends on Facebook.

Once you have made the required purchases and read the material, you can call the shop and an interview with me will be scheduled. The interview will take about one hour. I usually do two course interviews per week, which means i take on about 104 new students per year.

I placed my first order this week. I'm super eager and I started reading your Herb & Root Magic book. I tried calling the shop, but Catherine wasn't available.

I must mention that I would love to attend this course, because I feel in my heart its something that will give me what I felt I lost from my Santeria Initiation. I lost myself when I was initiated, it was never what I had envisioned it would be. In fact, talking to my husband I feel that its what I am meant to do. I was always spiritual ever since I was little and my family were all curanderos and espiritistas.
Anyway, I spoke with my husband and said, that perhaps this course is what I need to get back to what I lost 7 years ago. I don't have my mom or grandparents here to guide me anymore but I feel that as I read through the forum and the books that its exactly what I need. I love learning and I love herbs, candles, incense, and to be honest, when I saw graveyard dirt, it made me tickle, because prior to my initiation I would go to the graveyard late at night to do rituals prior to my initiation, but now I'm told I can't because I'm the daughter of Yemaya. So, I crave to be able to learn something that will bring my sense of spiritualism back.
I won't let you down, and I won't do anything that will bring shame to you, because its something that means a lot to me.

Good Evening, tainapr,
You will love the Lucky Mojo correspondence course.
Miss cat has the patience of a Saint and she's an incredible teacher.
Many of us on the forum are in the Santeria Religion. And, as a forum rule, we don't say anything about other religions. Therefore, I have edited your post.
Am looking forward to seeing you in the course!!!!
Have fun!!!
Take care

Prepairing For The Course

Unread postby rgar2347 » Sun Dec 08, 2013 9:46 am

Hello, I am preparing myself in order to begin taking the Correspondence Course and Apprenticeship Program. I was reading through the various topics and noticed that it has been quite sometime since anyone made a reference in most of the topics. I have grown up around a few practices that in my earlier years hearing the word root-worker for practices in which were performed both in our home and in the community. As a young child this can be quite confusing and being raised between my mother and grandparents I use to think my mother evil for involving herself in such practices.

As I continued to grow into adult-hood I began secretly visiting various practitioners whether psychic or root-workers to get a handle of the ups and downs I was always faced with in my own life. To make a long long story short, :) something really spiritual has began to evolve in my life, i find myself more open and more serious concerning my spirituality I was divorced in may and from there I started searching I did not want the divorce and was devastated, I believe myself to be a great person extremely intelligent always putting others first and the first to want to provide the greater good for another human. I have a non profit organization geared to provide transitional housing for ex offender, my husband did everything he could to destroy my business and it seems me.

A few months ago I began to have dreams premonition dreams and everyday something more supernatural takes place in my life. I have frequented the Lucky Mojo site for a number of years not really understanding why, I understand now and I think it's times for me to really tap into who I am becoming. Not only will this experience prepare me for continued spiritual growth; it will give me the channel to do what is driven by passion and that is to help others who don't know how to help themselves. I don't know if my marriage could have been saved or if I could have prevented the many obstacles that I have faced in this life. maybe those things have prepared me for this very moment, what I know today is that I am more than excited to journey on into a new existence.

I have purchased all other the reading material from the course and I am amazed at the vastness of it all, I find myself staying up late into the night just reading. There are a few more items that I need to purchase, small things and I know that you have to purchase these items over a four month period. My question is are there any exceptions to this rule. I could have read the answer someplace else but since there is such a wide gap in the questions I thought it can't hurt to ask again.

Respectfully

Simply....Ronda:)

Hi Ronda,

To my knowledge there are no exceptions to the rule. Part of the time lapse gives you time to start doing some work on your own and become familiar with the forum, the on-line resources and the products. It's worth the wait: I promise :)

Blessings and Success.

Unread postby Anais » Sat Dec 14, 2013 3:20 pm

Greetings Everyone,

I will soon be purchasing Cat's Hoodoo Correspondence Course and am looking ahead of time for someone of African American origin to interview and who is also a student who would like to work together. Is there anyone here who would be available to me for this.

Thanks,

Hello, Anais,

Your IP address is 174.61.49.41, which indicates that your location is in or around Miami, Florida.

If you are not a black American, then for homework number two, you will be required to meet, make friends with, and talk about folklore, family customs, and folk magic with an African American.

If you are a black American, then for homework number two, you will be required to meet, make friends with, and talk about folklore, family customs, and folk magic with anyone who is NOT an African American.

Only students who live outside the USA are allowed to do this by email.
