I did not attempt to convince you to buy a hard cover book. The person who mentioned that was a forum member named see-ker.
I don't take any of this personally. I have been in the book business for decades. Books are still being published, and so are vinyl and 78 rpm records. Why? because there is artistry to the work as well as information.
Let me explain this to you. You say you want "knowledge" so let us take a cooking recipe as an example. You may wish to make watermelon rind pickles. You can go online for dozens of recipes of watermelon rind pickeles.
But maybe you like old books, and you collect and savour their typesetting, illustrations, and cover art. Maybe you also like older recipes, because you enjoy connecting, through recipes, with the people of the past who wrote the books, or with the ambience of a time that is gone. So you purchase a facsimile edition of "What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking" by Abby Fisher, first published in 1891. You buy it for the feel and the time-travelling aspects, for the glimpse into the mind of Mrs. Abby Fisher, to experience her personality and her era. The book is a talismanic link to a time, a place, and a person. The recipe for watermelon rind pickles is there, of course, but so is much, much more.
That is what i mean about the vintage look and feel of our books. They harken back to by own youth (and i am 72 years old). They are my presentation of a time and place. In addition to my own writing and that of my colleagues, i also publish facsimile reprints of books that i myself bought in decades past, which have fallen out of print and into the public domain.
In book
publishing, i am an artist, not merely a conveyor of information. You either like my style or you don't. I think you don't, and i am just fine with that.
However, i am very happy to know that you do not deal in illegal pdfs or other forms of copyright violation, out of respect for authors. I salute you for that.
As for my hiring extra staff to answer personal private correspondence, please understand that THIS FORUM is exactly where that staff is operating. The staff consists of three Lucky Mojo employees (nagasiva, Ernie, and me), a group of recompensed Moderators under the leadership of an Admin (Miss Athena), and dozens of volunteer practitioners, all of whom have vowed to be kind and helpful to those with queries. Hoodoo, being a form of folk magic, is a community undertaking, and it is my pleasure to interact and share my knowledge with the community, not one-on-one.
Again, i have been doing this form of community outreach -- book
publishing and public posting in reply to questions -- for decades, starting in 1994 with uenet newsgroups and my first free web pages, adding with our first publication in 2002, adding a free Yahoo group for my hundrds of students in 2003, sponsoring and co-hosting a free radio podcast begnning in 20014, eventually opening the Forum to the public in 2008, and continuing to add to the free web pages, the free forum and the free radio show to the present, with 35 books in print at this time.
This is what i offer, and if you cannot enjoy it, i understand -- but berating me about my artistry, my choices in design and
publishing, or how i conserve time by corresponding in public via the Forum rather than privately via email, is pretty much a non-starter for me.
I take criticism like yours as an opportunity to self-examine my practices and my goals -- but in the case of book
publishing, web authorship, vintage design, fancy fontography, forum communication, and the radio show -- i am satisfied that what i am doing is the most fun for me, earns me an adequate living, and reaches the widest audience for the lowest cost (free on the forum, web pages, and radio show, and only $9.00 per book for our paperbacks). So i will not be changing what i am doing.
