Mandrake Root (Mayapple) Questions and Answers

Unread post by cecila » Sun Nov 10, 2013 8:02 pm

Hi,

1). Is the mandrake sold by Lucky Mojo Podophyllum peltatum or is Atropa mandragora ?

2). Could be Podophylum peltatum used for fertility spells?

Thank you

Thank you Catherine.
Is not very clear to me. In the page you gave it to me is nothing about fertility so I understand that I can not use Mayapple in a fertiliy mojo/spell. Is it correct?
Thank you again.

Mandragora (European Mandrake) is reputed to enhance fertility; American Mandrake is reputed to enhance love.

Hi there and howdy!

I absolutely LOVE the site and the forum, I haven't been able to get enough of it! I was perusing the catalogue, and noticed the entry for mandrake says "Mandrake Root (Maypops)" rather than Mayapple. I'm assuming this could be a typo? Passion vine (around these parts, anyway) is what we call 'Maypops'- and if I could keep the raccoons from tearing them up, we might have opportunity to enjoy them every once in a while!

As an aside, wildlife has been terribly detrimental to finding purple passion flower in the wild (sniffle) ... I haven't seen a single vine on our property in at least two years, but I've found a small yellow ones with fruit no larger than a blueberry. They're adorable. I'd never confuse either with Mayapple, however.

If anyone would be so kind, I'd appreciate the clarification and/or the opportunity to learn something new! Thanks in advance, look forward to hearing from you.

Sure thing!

It's on the herb list within the catalogue, here: http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatherbs.html

But actually, if you scroll down below the description within the link you provided, you can see what I'm referring to in the area where herbs are listed to order spell ingredients.

Hope this helps!

Miss Aida,

I took a moment to upload a screen capture of the area of confusion to a hosting site. I hope this helps.

Ami,

Maypops is a common name -- it is used for May Apple in the Ozarks. Yes, Maypops may also refer to other plants. So canMandrake. We sell American May Apple / American Mandrake / Maypops, call it what you will.

Thanks for the information... With so many different/varied regional naming conventions, my head *may pop* ... Har har. (Groan)

I KNOW I've seen Ameriecan Mandrake/May Apple and/or Maypop (?) around here somewhere. This could be fun. The next time I drag my paw out to the woods, I'll ask him what he'd call it... if I were a betting woman, I'd bet he'd call it another thing to mow!
