Spell Timing: Dates of Month / Numerically Interesting Dates

Unread post by magickalpisces » Tue Aug 10, 2010 12:07 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if Friday the 13th on a waxing moon is a bad day to do conjure work. I know timing in hoodoo is not as relevant as in other magickal practices, however I would like my timing to be appropriate with the type of work I am doing which requires the waxing moon for best results. Since the work must be done on a Friday, I thought perhaps this Friday would work, however it is Friday the 13th. Many people associate Friday the 13th as a bad omen and I would like to know if this is true for hoodoo as well and if doing conjure work on that day would bring bad results.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Pisces :D

I don't personally pay any attention to Friday the 13ths. I've actually always considered 13 to be a lucky number for myself, and others do as well since you can see condition formulas such as Lucky 13.

Actually the number 13 in hoodoo is the opposite. It can be a very lucky and powerful number in terms of working conjure. For example, working on a spell for 13 days can be very powerful to either cross, or do "positive" work for yourself or someone else. In addition, there is a lucky 13 oil that lucky mojo sells that is considered quite lucky for lottery, and other types of gambling. So I personally would not stop doing work on that day because it is seen as superstitious.

I believe Friday the 13th has its origins to when the Catholic Inqusition killed the last of the Knights Templers leader.

Me too -- when i was a kid, the best r&b, gospel, and soul radio station in Oakland was KDIA Lucky 13!

KDIA Lucky 13, Boss Soul Radio (which was actually at 1310 on the AM dial) always made a big, happy deal about Friday the 13th, and i loved it. Read about this pioneering Black-owned and operated station and hear vintage air-checks at http://www.bayarearadio.org/audio/kdia/

If you're going to pay attention to this Friday the 13th, I know astrologically, it's going to be a fantastic day for love work.

I am also a big fan of 13--I was born on the 13th of October so I have always been partial to the number. With the moon in Libra if you are doing any love, luck or justice work that day would be a very nice day to begin.
good luck,

I'm very glad that someone asked this question since I was curious about it myself. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this Friday would be a good day to work a vengeance/jinxing spell against some very nasty people who have caused me nothing but misery. I assumed it was with the waxing moon & all, but since 13 seems to be a lucky/good number in hoodoo & Friday is a good day for love spells it made me reconsider. I don't usually build workings around a time frame, but since this is an important one to me I thought a little extra oomph couldn't hurt.

Friday the 13th love spells

Unread post by mscarib » Fri May 13, 2011 10:54 am

I just wanted to know what was everyone's opinion about doing love spells today? Seeing that Friday the 13th is consider the unluckiest day and 13th the unluckiest number?

To many people, Friday the 13th is a lucky day, especially if one was born on the 13th or 31st. There is also a tradition in hoodoo of "reverse bad luck," thus the products Lucky 13 and Black Cat, both for good luck.

Is Candle burning in October/November bad?

Unread post by waterlily » Sat Nov 12, 2011 12:53 pm

I heard that doing candle work during the month of October and November is not good magic, that you attract evil spirits. This prompted me to put a halt on all my work that is in progress. How far true is this?

As far as I am concerned this sounds like nonsense. I have not heard of this practice though and wondered if you would possibly share from where you heard this advice?

Disagree with stopping your work. This was a powerful time for anyone to be working.
October 31st -November 2nd.
my 2 cents.

Let me start with my disclaimer that I am only quoting what I've seen written on another site because I have no knowlege of this whatsoever... but someone who seemed well-practiced and pretty knowledgeable wrote that work with darker spirits should not be done during Nov 2nd to Nov 25th because there is a revolution of energy in the underworld due to the gates being opened.

Like I said, I don't know but I'd be curious to see what others have to say.

I'm calling bullshit on both of these!

"Doing candle work during the month of October and November is not good magic [because] you attract evil spirits" wins the Herman Slater Memorial Award for "Stupidest Excuse for Telling Newbies 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Magic'"that i have heard in the past five years.

"Work with darker spirits should not be done during Nov 2nd to Nov 25th because there is a revolution of energy in the underworld due to the gates being opened" wins the Disneyland Ride Height Requirements Trophy for "Too Short to Ride."

How about this, I conjured a nasty demonic spirit just last night on behalf of a client and I'm doing just fine and unaffected by the revolution of energy ;-).

Rarely will you find such "rules" in the practice of magic.

This thread is a fine example to all of those out in Internet land seeking advice and suggestions "willy-nilly" like for anything concerning magical workings from any source at all.

I'm glad cat called "bullshit" first...I was on the cusp! LOL :)

I thought so too Joseph, I may be a noobie when it comes to hoodoo, but I haven't ever heard that or anything like it. I had always heard that all hallow's eve and the two days after where really good days for any kind of ancestor work, but that may be a bs thing too!!

Good Lord-this takes the cake for bad magical advice I have heard this year. As another poster mentioned, I suspect this is coming from the idea that the veil between the worlds is thinnest at All Hallows, All Saints, Halloween, Samhain--whatever you call it--and that as a result there may be more "spiritual" activity-but not doing magical work because of evil spirits? Wrong, wrong, wrong! Thank goodness we have a forum so these questions can be asked (and answered!) correctly!

Another. Kdia fan! Amazing! I loved that station before it was sadly changed to a news format. They not only had great soul and gospel music but they were the only station that played funk music I.e. George clinton.

Good New Year's spells?

Unread post by Wandering_Jew » Sun Dec 29, 2013 12:21 pm

Are there any particular spells that are traditionally done on/around New Year's, to set the tone for the coming year?

Or does anyone have their own New Year's rituals that they'd be willing to share?

I've got some basil steeping in water to sprinkle around the entrances on New Year's Day, to try to encourage prosperity for myself and my partner in the new year. I'm also thinking that de-cluttering in the next couple of days might be good; clearing away this year's energy and issues, to make room for what we need for next year. I doubt either of those are traditional, though. ;)

Thanks Miss Aida! That's exactly what I was looking for.

I did try searching for 'New Year's' spells, but the search engine filters out both 'new' and 'year' as being "too common"... ah, technology... ;) There's just no substitute for human intelligence, sometimes.

Is "Samhain"/All Hallows magically significant? Or is that just a Neo-pagan concept? I've been considering doing something interesting on that date, but IDK if Halloween being magical is just a myth or not.

Would my own emotions about the date make it personally significant? Halloween is, along with Christmas, my favorite holiday, and All Saints' and All Souls' are one of my most important religiously observed dates. I haven't heard anything about a worker's belief having any effect in hoodoo, but I might as well ask.
Thank you to St. Dymphna!

Hello Luckbewithme876,

This is one of those things that probably varies from worker to worker. If the rootworker is Catholic then Holloween night probably has some significance because of the upcoming all saints and all souls day. If they are a southern baptist (as a lot of rootworkers are) then it may have less significance.

The belief of a worker certainly has an effect on their work, if they did not beleive they could do the work they wouldn't be doing it.

In general I do not know of Holloween as traditionally having great significance in hoodoo in general (though I could be wrong in this and if so someone will probably correct me).

peace~

Nathen
