Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hello, inlove35,
Yes, you are correct.
But I take it a step further and state my intentions during bathing also numerous times. And the intent ought to be stated again after the prayers.

Hello all,
Looking for specific instructions to remove a block placed on my lover by his ex. I have a blockbuster vigil and wanted to know what to inscribe on it and if I can set this with an adam and eve? Any comments welcome.

Miss Aida,
I got a reading done less than two weeks ago by an LM reader and found the ex wife is causing conflict, he has not been in a relationship since they divorced. I feel as though it is a mind block or possible binding spell.

Hell I was wondering something. I wanted to take a spiritual Love Me bath (for a guy I really like), but recently with all the crap my daughters father has done to me I was advised to cleanse myself. I have Hyssop so my question is, should I cleanse myself FIRST or is it ok to go ahead and do a Love Me Bath?

Look at this way TheBestest, if you stink, do you wash first or just put on more cologne? Just taking the Love Me Bath is the equivalent of puffing perfume over the underlying stench. Both methods have a history of use, up to you what you prefer

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
I just started up burning a black candle on my break up vinegar jar. Is it ok to do the washing the hands method I read previously in this post with Hyssop after each burning, and still do a full fledged Hyssop bath to wash away my sins once a month?

Hello, TheBestest ,
Yes, that's fine.
Although I personally prefer the full bath after negative work.

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hi I have a few questions about cleansing the home alter space and for me.
1) I was reading that the 13 herb bath is a must, and it got me thinking if I am doing things correctly and what effects they have.
2) I remembered that years ago I buried spell remains in my yard of a negative nature, I didn't realize it then not to do that, I tried to find it to dig it up but obviously couldn't after all this time, is there anything I can do to make sure that it still dosent have a negative effect on me and my home?
3) I have two alters so I guess my confusion is when and how to purifiy things properly, like would taking hyssop baths, 13 herb baths or uncrossing take away effects from my drawing spells, and do you only smudge with sage after any negative spells?
4) I read in a post uncrossing can cancel all good ones, but what if you are doing both at the same time?
5) I did a double action candle and egg spell on me and someone, would that take away the positive ones I did on us as I tried to remove any crossed conditions?
6) I read in a post that you should not keep graveyard dirt for more than a day, I have some for a very long time but that's because it is a family member's.
7) I just want to make sure nothing hinders my work, and I know cleanings are a must, I just want to have everything in order, all I have until I place my next order is Chinese wash, incense, and hyssop.
Any advice is greatly appreciated,thanks

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hello, flames_dancer --
1) Well, 13 Herb Bath is very popular, but it is not so much a "must" as a ready "go-to." You can use it in floor wash, laundry, scrub water, and for personal bathing.
2) If you know the general ara where you buried the negative spell, dose the area with Jinx Killer. Smoke it or make a spritz with the oil and some clean water. Do not use bath crystals straight on planted gardens, as they contain salt, which can harm plants.
3) A Hyssop bath, being a bath, purifies YOU, not your altar. Hyssop can be added to your floor scrub or laundry for altar cloths, of course. The same is true of 13 Herb Bath and Uncroossing. They remove negative conditions. I personally do not smudge with sage -- that comes from a different radition than i was taught. Cleaning your area will not detract from your drawing spells, but just as you would put on fresh perfume after taking a shower, once you clean your altar, you might wish to re-dress it for drawing that which you desire.
4) That is not worth commenting on. Cleansing spells do not "cancel" other spells. That is childish thinking.
5) Same question state another way, and the answer is the same: Cleansing spells do not "cancel" other spells.
6) I hope you did not read such a stupid idea in a post on THIS forum! It's worse than bullshit -- it is flat-out ungrounded bullshit.
7) Keeping your altar clean is just like keeping your home clean. It is not obsessive work, just work that must be done at intervals.
I recommend that you purchase this simple, straightforward, informative, recipe-filled book:

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Thank you very much for your thorough reply.I didn't even think of the jinx killer. I have been in such a rush fussing over what candles to get,I forgot about the basics..the books of course thank you,so I can have them on hand for reference.
Always the basics first,ha thank you for pointing that out.
It gets confusing when you read some users posts about what correct or wrong to do and then find out it's just their opinion and not actual traditional hoodoo practice.
The graveyard dirt upset me when someone said it should not be kept that it zaps protection, but I find since it's a loved one it would be protective,it's hidden anyway it's not like I display it on the coffee table.
Thank you again,I had a queiry about your readings/work actually, and I don't know if I post in a forum,or I can ask you here by replying or if I am allowed to pm you to ask,if you get a chance to let me know I would greatly appreciate it.
All the best.

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Update...
So I posted before all I done to remove blocks in my life, with much guidance from the forum... I got a promotion at work, making 8,000 more a year. Its long hours, but I am willing to do it. I had feared doing my taxes, today I took handfuls of fenugreek seeds and spread them over my front yard, I wash the floors with Chinese Wash, and I just sat down did my taxes, expecting to pay. I got a refund ... As I sit here crying in happiness, I had to say Thank you Miss catherine yronwode you have changed my life.. maybe even saved it.

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hello,
Is it unnecessary to do any cleansing work after i do a freezer spell to freeze out potential future love rivals?( I dont want my ex seeing others)
Does this classify under 'negative' work?
I am posting it under this thread as if i do need to do cleansing work after, i am not sure what to use. I dont have a job atm, so i dont have much money. so i cant go out and buy ingredients atm. I already have the ingredients to do uncrossing baths so would this suffice?
I also have epsom salt, and just a teeny itty bitty bit of sea salt left.
could i just pray over the salt and pour it over me (with it mixed in with water) and wash in it? Also i dont have a bath, just a shower.

Hi Priya1220,
It is necessary to bathe after this type of work. The uncrossing ingredients you have will work fine.
Good Luck!

What would happen if i didn't cleanse myself after doing this?
Bad things would happen to me? Would the opposite of what i want to happen with the freezer spell happen?

Hi Priya1220,
Failing to cleanse yourself after working a spell like that does not reverse the spell or result in your being punished - but you will know that you are dirty, spiritually, and that it would be a good idea to get clean.

Ok thanks. Ill wait to do it then.
I have too much anxiety and would worry i would somehow mess up in the cleansing process and it wouldn't work, therefore actually making him see someone else because i messed up my work.
So ill just hold off on the freezer spell for now. Ty

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hello all!
First of all, I'd like to apologize if this isn't in the right category, as there were several to chose from, but decided to put it here. Here is the situation which started in late fall 2013 and went into the first few months of 2014. It was determined through several rootworkers that I was jinxed up very badly, former co-workers had hotfooted me away from my previous job and wanted the worse for me. The first lady we went to, couldn't do much, but made suggestions on certain candles to burn, etc. Things got worse with me and my mom went in search for additional help. She found a local rootworker who said she could help and that she did not charge. Well, she ended up ripping off my mother and taking advantage of the situation, saying that I would need certain candles and that they were at 350 each. She ended up ripping her off for a total of 1100. In addition to sending us on a wild goose chase to get this and that items. In the end, it didnt even help. I took it upon myself research how to rid myself of the crossed conditions. I am doing so much better now. But now, I'm thinking, is there anything I can do, to recover that 1100? That lady no longer talks to us, she had quit answer my mother's calls last year and well, fast forward to the present: my mother passed away at the beginning of the year and I do have some of her graveyard dirt and I been thinking, I wanted to avenge what they con artist did to her, because afterall, my mom was trying to help me! I do know where this lady lives, etc. I have various herbs, candles, and can order anything else necessary on here. Just wanted any suggestions on how to proceed with the situation. That and we could use the money as well. Thanks in advance for everything. Have a great day everyone.

lonewolfinc,
Unfortunelty the money is probably gone and never to get back. You can use pay me now to try. I would sprinkle the graveyard dirt on her property to curse her, or use crossing hotfoot on her. She is a thief and uses her time to rip off, but you need to protect yourself when doing this so fiery wall of protection while you do this work. Can you get other items from this women, photo, real name etc?

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
j82,
Thanks for responding, unfortunately, I do not have any personal concerns of her, all I know is her first name and where she lives and works. She has a photo of me, one that my mother had given her and she never wanted to return it after my mother had requested it various times. That lady is a leech and I know she is ripping others off in town. She was one of those types that bragged about what she could do and "guaranteed" her work and yet, nothing happened. I knew she was a fraud from the start, but I second guessed it since the condition I was in and my mom jumped right into things and didnt think things through due to her desperation to get me uncrossed
I do have FWOP from Lucky Mojo and other protective herbs and baths. I do protection work and cleansing every couple of weeks and I petition Saint Michael on a daily basis. I have black salt, my mothers graveyard dirt, sulfur, and can obtain anything else needed on here. I will try the Pay Me now line of products as well.

Hello, lonewolfinc,
Unfortunately you were taken in by a so-called Gypsy reader scam. Please read about it here.
http://www.luckymojo.com/blackgypsies.html
These people are very good at what they do. I had one approach me at a store. She said that I needed to follow her because she needed to tell me about my husband (I wasn't married at the time). But, I was curious about these scams. Well, to make a long story short, she actually ALMOST convinced me tat if I didn't give her all this money for this and tht, I would lose my children to a terrible death.
Only problem.....I don't have children.
BUT she was good. DAMN good.
Miss cat is always always warning people about these Gypsy reader and candle burning scams. These people are PROFESSIONAL con artists. And when someone tells you that the work is guaranteed? Don't walk away....RUN away!
Don't feel too bad. I had a client that was taken for $78,000. Another one for $14,000. Another one for $17,000. You got off easy.
I hope that you have contacted the police.
Take care

Does Florida water cleanse and protect at the same time?
I am gonna do some dominating love work on my target to bring him back to me, and want to make sure i am cleansed and protected before/during/after. I would be using dominating oils as a perfume on me around my target and on my targets belongings, and then eventually use them on candles. I will cleanse/protect myself beforehand and during/after... just want to make the process as simple as possible.
I want to use a soap that is made to cleanse and protect. And i know LM has Florida Water soap.......

Some people do use Florida Water for protection, but most use it as a cleanser and as a spirit offering. You'll find a discussion here:

Spiritual traditions around Florida water developed in the Afro-Caribbean religions, which have important differences between African-American Protestant hoodoo.

When it comes to soaps, a cleansing soap would be rubbed downwards and a protection soap would be rubbed upwards right????
Is it okay if i just say psalm 23 while im using these soaps for cleansing and protecting? Or so i need to say pslm 51?
And do i say the same psalm for a cleansing wash and a protection wash? Thanks

To add to what i wrote right above...
What i am doing is love work, but some of its dominating. Well, i have a couple oils that are dominating and then i have command and compel etc, and i will be using them altogether... on myself, on my target's items and for candlework. Two of the oils are dominating ones. Does this require me to do a cleansing anytime before/after this work?

Hello, Priya1220,
Technically, you are absolutely correct.
You can say Psalm 23 and Psalm 51
But I don't think that domination work demands a cleansing. However, if you feel that you ought to then, y all means, do it

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hi everyone i'm new to this forum and been reading many many threads that gives me so much informations. Thank you for such a lovely community!
I just had a card reading and the rootworker told me before I begin doing any of my own spells(intend to do skull candles) -
he really recommend spiritual cleansing and purification in order to move forward.
May I get a suggestions on what/which should I do for this process?
- Florida water bath salt? - Wash? (what kind?) - Should I burn purification candles? or incense?
or is there a specific ritual I need to do?
Please kindly advise,
I thank you guys in advance.

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
I have a family member that is evil, mean and sick. Its time for her to go to sleep and not wake up. Naturally.
I don't want this death cast to be at all long and painful ... just fast ... like go to sleep and not wake up. I don't want to hurt her... just relieve her and the rest of the family.
I wanna keep it simple but effective since I am a super new beginner at all this. Not the first time I have cast but definately in need of some direction.
So I want to persuade the universe to speed up this process so i can move on with my life.
I need to know how to protect myself when casting this spell of death.
Do i do the protection spell before, during or after??
Thank you,
Mystery

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hello, mystery --
I do not think you are actually asking for protection, although you have called it that.
1) You are praying to "the universe," whatever that means to you, but you cannot expect to protect yourself from the universe, since you and everything else is part of the universe (the totality of all existence).
2) Likewise, if you prayed to God to remove this harmful relative, you could not protect yourself from God, since God is the supreme being. Yet people pray to God all the time for the death of evil people.
3) If your spell is successful and the person dies, you do not need protection from the person, since he or she is dead, unless you fear that the person's spirit will come after you and haunt you.
So .... what you probably want to be doing is learning a way to spiritually cleanse yourself and take off any sin you may have committed through your prayers and spells of death.
So i have merged your request into the thread on cleansing after performing rootwork.

Hi mystery,
Karma is a concept in Eastern religions. It is not a factor in hoodoo.
Miss cat's wonderful response to you showed that what you need is to cleanse yourself of your sins in praying for someone else's death. Bathe with hyssop and recite the 51st psalm ("cleanse me with hyssop and I will be clean; wash me and I will be whiter than snow").
http://herb-magic.com/hyssop.html
Allow yourself to air dry and put on clean clothes. Dispose of some of your bathwater at a crossroads, throwing to the east over your shoulder and walk away without looking back.
Good luck.

Hello mystery
You would cleanse after your work has been done. www.luckymojo.com/baths.html
Here is the link for Lucky mojo bath products. www.luckymojo.com/mojocatbaths.html
Think of it this way. If you where wearing dirty clothes and was planning on going out and playing in the mud.
Would you take a shower before playing in the mud or after?
I hope this helped you.

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Aleesha22,
BEFORE
1. I usually cleanse my entire body and dress in freshly laundered clothes before doing any form or prayer or spell in which i am asking for love of the body, because i want my body to be clean. A love herbs or love bath cystals bath would be my choice.
2. I usually clean my hands if i am doing any work for the increase of money, as this is the work of my hands. Gambler's Gold Hand Wash, Van Van Oil in warm water -- something quick and easy.
3. I never cleanse myself at all if i am about to do a curse, because i want to go into it dirty.
AFTER:
1. If i wash up after a love spell, i use floral compounds like love oils or baths. If the spell is being performed while my lover is approaching, i would not bathe between the spell and the meeting.
2. II usually do not wash off my hands after a money spell because i want to carry the stuff on to the next money i touch.
3. I bathe with Hyssop and drink Hyssop tea after doing an evil deed, and recite Psalms 51. I also launder the clothes i wore while casting the evil spell. Read more about Hyssop here:

Hi guys
1. what prayer do you say whilst walking through the white candles to cleanse?
2. do you just walk through them once or more to cleanse oneself?
3. Can it be any type of white candle, small or big?
4. How do you prepare the hyssop bath -- do you boil the herb in water, then wash with it?

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Dear Aleesha22,
1. As for prayers, you can repeat the prayer or Psalms you are using for the cleansing, such as Psalms 51 for example.
2. As for how many times you would go through the candles would be once. On the Uncrossing Page it mentions to stand between the two candles, when you're done bathing, and air dry.
3. The size of White Candles I use are the 4" Altar Candles as they do have a small sort time--approximately two hours.
4. As for preparing Hyssop, just brew it like you would a tea. Pour hot water into the container with the Hyssop, and let it steep for a couple of minutes. When brewing herbs for various work, I like to use a Muslin Bag to hold the herbs while they steep in the hot water.
Hope that helps.
Many blessings.

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hello, Aleesha22,
First before replying to your questions, i want you to understand that there are MANY ways to do these things. Hoodoo is not a system of rules to be memorized. It is a community-based form of folk magic, so you will see much variation in regions of the country and among different families.
THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Some folks don't walk between any candles at all when cleansing after rootwork. They mark the end of the work in a different way. For instance my late friend Hurkey, who was from Philadelphia and later lived in New Orleans, simply told folks to step out of the bath tub BACKWARDS.
I grew up in the East Bay in the 1950s and 1960s and i learned in Oakland to set up two small free-standing candles (4" or so) on the floor, one at the head of the bathtub and one at the foot, and step out between them. Some folks who had no tubs and only a shower told me that they set the candles at the doorway of the shower -- or on the floor at the doorway of the bathroom -- and stepped out through them. Placing the candles on the FLOOR was always a part of the instructions.
What we see in this is two different regional traditions, and both are valid and well accepted.
1. No one has ever told me that there is a special, extra, different prayer to say when stepping out of the tub or when stepping through the candles. I am sure you can select one, such as Psalms 51, as noted by Papa Newt above, but the point is not to say a prayer then -- because you would have payed Psalms 51 while bathing. Rather the point is to make spiritual note of what you are doing -- LEAVING the bath and walking away from it into the MUNDANE WORLD. This is why Hurkey's method of stepping out of the tub backwards is equally valid as walking between candles: both methods mark a change or turn in your consciousness. The candle method comes out of the Spiritual Church Movement tradition of working with lights set on the floor, a way of working that goes back at least 175 years in America.
2. Just once. Again, you need to know WHY this is done more than HOW to do it. It is done to demark a change. Going back and forth and back and forth would be a symptom of OCD, like switching lights on and off many times in an attempt to "get it right" due to low serotonin in the brain.
3. A small freestanding candle such as a 4" candle would be sufficient. It would most definitely NOT be a glass vigil light. The work comes out of the Spiritual Church Movement and relates to 19th century African American customs. This 19th century picture by E. W. Kemble is not of a bathing and cleansing ritual, but it shows practitioners with candles on the floor (at the four corners of a sacred space). These are the small candles in brass holders that are typical of the work.

4. As with most herbal teas, you may infuse Hyssop or steep it. We usually only boil herbs that are very tough, like Bay Leaves, or mixtures that contain roots or seeds. Papa Newt's suggestion of a muslin bag is very good, as it saves on clean-up time.

If you're doing positive work, I wouldn't cleanse, but I might burn some Tranquility incense with some bay leaf to keep things quiet and your work invisible.
If you're doing negative work, yes, cleanse your work area with a little Chinese Wash -- although Hindu Grass Oil in water is also effective, and has a milder fragrance.

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Aleesha22,
Michaele's advice is great. I would only add that one reason that people keep curses to a specific are of working is to avoid having negativity in their regular living spaces. It is traditional to do curses and negative spells in the bathroom, for instance, or outside in a woodshed or garage, because one would not want such ugliness in one's bedroom, unless one really had no other place to work.

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hey guys
after using a black skull candle to make my target think horrible thoughts on another person, is cleansing necessary & is this classed as negative work.
Also if i do my spell work outside, i would only cleanse myself afterwards. Would the energy not follow me into my home & living space.
Also is it acceptable to do my working during day light hours or not.
Thank you.

I would say so, yes.Aleesha22 wrote:after using a black skull candle to make my target think horrible thoughts on another person, is cleansing necessary & is this classed as negative work.
This is kind of like asking, "If I wash my feet, will I track mud into my home?" The answer is No -- have no fear. Also if i do my spell work outside, i would only cleanse myself afterwards. Would the energy not follow me into my home & living space.
If you're working on someone's thinking, you'll have less resistance during the time they're asleep. Also, there's the age-old association between "darkness" and "scary stuff". On the other hand, vinegar jars and other peace-destroying works are often done during the daylight hours. Experiment, if you like. If you notice that different times have different effects, stick with the one that works best. Also is it acceptable to do my working during day light hours or not.
Good luck,
Miss Michaele

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Can you use incense and smudge before and after with sandalwood and then with lucky mojo protection incense to cleanse before and after hot foot work?
This would be instead of a spiritual bath. My friend is doing hot foot on her abusive husband. It would be less conspicuous for her to do a smudging and she's afraid of him.
I want to make sure she's safe. Thank you!!

Hello, carsan,
Yes, that's fine.
Although I prefer the bath first, It's much better than doing nothing at all
I hope that abusive man gets exactly what's coming to him.
Take care

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
I had done a combination of LM Break Up/Banishing powders and Break Up oil on a candle meant to banish my lover's ex gf that he moved in with. I put the candle on top of a vinegar jar (loads of red pepper flakes, LM War Water, cider vinegar, ground lemon peel, and a "hotfoot mix" in which I included alum, poppyseed, iron filings, sulfur, salt, red pepper/black pepper). Afterwards, I went to do cleansing and had a very strong feeling that I shouldn't do the hyssop bath for some reason (never felt this before) and so I just used a bit of water and florida water to clean up, would there be a distinct reason my inner thoughts would tell me it wasn't time to cleanse with hyssop? Just curious. Thank you.
Seeking to learn more.

Hello, Fox,
Please take that bath.
There's many reasons that this could happen. But my fear is that a mischievous Spirit may have given you that communication.
Don't worry. It happens! Nothing to worry about. The bath is your way of saying to that Spirit: "Screw you"!!
LOL
Take care

Re: Cleansing Self Tools Altar Before and-or After Performing Rootwork Spells
Hello friends!
First, I wanna thank you all because this you guys have been so helpful on my way learning Hoodo. Thanks!
I would like to know how I can perform a cleansing ritual on to people before a love spell, when I can't ask them to take baths. Can this be done with a candle? What is the correct way?
My second question is: should I perform cleansing before and after casting the spell or just before is enough?
Cleansing after the spell may weaken the spell?
