As a hoodoo practitioner and gay man I have a few questions regarding homosexual spells in Hoodoo. I'm curious to learn how these spells were passed down and what place in history they have within the hoodoo community. Are these particular spells a modern practice or are they part of an older tradition?

I'm aware of certain herbs in roots specifically used in spells for gay men. Queen Elizabeth root, unicorn roots and lavender are some. My main question is about safflower. How does this particular herb lend itself to homosexual love magic?
The spell I read about in Cat's "Hoodoo Herb And Root Magic" involves blending safflower and sampson snakeroot flowers to make an oil that draws a male lover. Why would the sampson snakeroot flowers be used and not the root? I'm very curious about this.
Could one also blend these two botanicals with other love herbs or oils to make a unique condition oil?
Thanks!
