Spells for Protection on the Job and in the Work Place

Unread post by lovebird » Sat May 09, 2009 4:53 am

HI,
I have a dear friend that is getting deployed in the next week. He is a navy seal and has a difficult mission to do. He has started to me that he doesn't feel good about this one...which is really making me feel some type of way. I want to burn a protection candle for him so he can return safe and sound. Which protection candle do I use? Which day should it be started? should this be continuous until he returns like have one lit once a month or something? What exactly do I put in the petition? Also what about a marriage candle does that have to be continuous as well? What candles have to be continuous as far as money, love

Thanks,
Mzcee

Re: Protection Candle

I would use a Fiery Wall candle and start it on a Tuesday at dawn.
(Tuesday beacuse he rules the life of warriors). Considering the circumstances, I recommend having it burn continously and add a coin with the words ("As hard as this coin is, that hard shall NN be. Against bullets and swords, and all the hurt in the word". Also adding the Bible to the place where I set the candle as well, so it may stop any bullet or knife heading his way.

If a warrior says he doesn´t feel good about a misson I would take it very seriously and consider enhancing the work with a few things:

Get a shirt (any long sleeved or an army t-shirt) from him, smoke it with Fiery Wall incense, place the coin mentioned above where his heart is, then the Bible then your candle on top of that of that.

Consider adding some ash tree roots (protects and prevents from drowning) to a bowl of sea water alond with a dash of Fiery Wall Oil.

Add some Graveyard dirt mixed with Fiery Wall Powder placed on top or around the shirt.

Burn some Fiery Wall incense mixed with a finely cut thread from the above mentioned shirt. Burn the incense outside your window so it can rise into the air emediately.

Keep it going until he returns.

Hi,
Where can I get the coin? I will have to find a Navy shirt... for he is a Navy Seal. I can do all the other things except placing the coin and the Bible and the shirt where his heart is. We don't live together. Can I place it somewhere else. Also continuously does that mean each time the candle burns out light another or once a month? Ia there any scripture that the Bible should be on?

Use any large size state issued coin.
(To make a person hard against bullets etc. by using a coin is not common in Hoodoo. It´s a trick from the old Swedish Trolldom tradition.)

Ask HIM for a shirt. It needs to be linked to him. I do not think he would mind if you told him you would pray for him over his borrowed shirt
while he was away. Otherwise just draw a picture of him, add any kind of personal link you can get from him and baptize the picture in his name. I matters not if you are a bad drawer. Just make sure your intent is set on it being HIM you draw when you do it.

When I said "where his heart is", I meant the place on the shirt where his heart should be if he wore it.

Yes, replace them when they burned out. Light the new candle with the last flame from the old using a small wooden stick. Keep the bible closed. If you want you can place a picture of St. Michael (or saint Cristopher - the Navys protection saint) where psalm 91 is. Make sure he is facing outwards. Or some square piece of flat metal.

HI Johannes,
Well I asked him for a shirt and he said no...he is supersitious. So I guess I won't be doing that so something personal of his a picture I can get. Now is is going to be gone 3-9mos I can burn candles like that every week can I do it like once a month but I will do my best to burn each week. But what if I can do it like that is he not going to be protected.

Keeping troublesome characters away

Unread post by CuriousCaledonian » Mon Dec 14, 2009 2:40 pm

I work in a library, and, contrary to belief, it is not always a stress-free environment. We have particular problems with certain users who are very unreasonable, even to the extent of being banned from using library services for spells. What would anyone recommend as a wash/powder/whatever to scatter around the entrances to deter such troublesome people from making our lives miserable? The management are good at supporting us, but any additional help would be beneficial. Many thanks.

You can wash and sprinkle the front of the doorsteps with salt, black pepper, and red pepper to keep troublesome people away. You can also use bended broom straws to keep them away and make them leave. Consider investing in Banishing products for when they come around.

How do I protect my man in the army?

Unread post by Prettykila » Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:43 pm

My husband left to Basic training as much as I kicked and screamed and threatened to divorce him not to. I even got the divorce papers but Ima stick thru it cuz I realise he want a good life for me and its hard right now. He in the infantry and that means he's going to be playing with guns and they might send him over to iraq or afghanistan after his training. Im real worried bout him. What can I do to prevent him from going somewhere hostile like that. I want my husband to come back in one piece! I dont know if this had anything to do with a job candle that me and him burned that he realised the military was a good job for him. I just need him to be safe and to come back home to me after this three months of lonely hell! Then he only here for two weeks to make peace at home and ask me to pack up my thangs and go live on base with him. I cant leave to the base if he goes to the hostile areas. They wont allow me to. I love St Michael, can I ask him? Is there anything I can do to change the situation to make sure he is sent somewhere that he wont die? Four years is too long to go thru this, my husbands all I got in this world and if something happen to him, I'd die too. :(

Yes, St. Michael would be an excellent choice to petition for your situation - although Michael being a warrior, he may offer strong protection, but not necessarily assure that the fight is avoided altogether. I think you should get a reading to see what would be the best way to go about dealing with the situation overall.

I come from a military family so I wanted to offer my help on this one. I've been there.

Given the current state of affairs, I am not sure you can prevent him from going someplace hostile. And after all, he did sign up for the military during wartime so he likely knew that deployment was a strong possibility and was willing to accept the risk.

Putting that aside for a moment, I think there are many things you can do in this situation. By all means petition St. Michael for protection. I would suggest getting him a medal to wear around his neck and annoint it. You could wash his fatigues in Firey Wall of Protection. Do some strengthening work on him so he has the ability to make good decisions and do the best at his job. There are many angles you could do here to help him be safe and strong.

I think the most important thing you could do here, however, is work on strengthening your marriage and yourself. Trust me--I've seen this first hand--the worst possible thing in the situation no matter where he ends up is your placing additional stress on him and your marriage by freaking out constantly. You are going to have to be strong. Make sure you do some strengthening work on yourself so you can be as calm and peaceful as possible during the circumstances. LM Blessing products and even Peaceful Home seem like a really good choice here but certainly get a reading from a worker on the best course of action.

Will you be moving on base? That's actually a great chance to back up your work with actions in the real world. The military has so many resources for spouses: support groups, chances for education, and you will meet loads of people in your situation who feel similarly. Avail yourself of every resource you can. Do some attraction work to attract to yourself the support you will need and some new friends.

It's tough but you will be fine... :) Hang in there!

Pray Psalm 91 every day. As duchess said, dress a medal and make sure he wears it all the time. (Soldiers are allowed to wear religious necklaces under their uniforms.) The medal can be of St. Michael, Jesus, Mary, or your husband's patron saint (according to his name or birthday).

Light a World Peace candle so that peaceful solutions to conflicts can be found instead of war.

Saint Michael would be great for this along with work directly involving his guardian angel. I'd take a medallion (the ones mentioned are great) and anoint it with Saint Michael oil, FWP, and dust it with some graveyard dirt from an anscestor of yours. Enlist the help of a loved one and Saint Michael to keep him safe and to guide him during his tour.

You might consider working this in conjunction with a more involved candle spell that invokes these powers to help you in your cause.

1. You should cleanse yourself of the negative energy.

www.luckymojo.com/uncrossing.html

2.I would definitely do some stop gossip work to shut them up.

www.luckymojo.com/stopgossip.html

and you can do a freezer spell to freeze and restrict their actions.

www.luckymojo.com/freezer.html

3. Then I would do a sweetening jar on the owner and/or your boss. I would include some boss fix as well.

www.luckymojo.com/bossfix.html

4.you can do some steady work as well so you will not lose your job.

Movie Magic- I need to protect my cast and crew.

Unread post by Cookie » Fri Jan 07, 2011 8:16 pm

So I've been brought on to consult in a friend's short film which involves a scene in which a girl calls upon Anima Sola. I was brought in for set design in general, but my friend directing is also one of the few who know I practice. Her concern, as well as mine, was to make the scene look as real as possible without having the actress actually perform it. I think I've done a pretty good job of that ("Hollywood-ed" it up to a certain extent too), but just to be on the safe side, I'd like to do a quick cleansing/protection of the set before filming begins. I'd feel terribly guilty if an unsuspecting actress were to call a spirit forth without realizing what she had done. Any suggestions of what to use?

Thankyou.

I would use Stop Gossip and Boss Fix products right when you get on the job. Maybe prepare two separate bottle spells with those intents, then when you get a new job put the bosses into the Boss Fix bottle right away, and start the Stop Gossip one on all your co-employees.

You can read further about bottle spells here http://www.luckymojo.com/bottlespells.html. Lucky Mojo sells Boss Fix and Stop Gossip bottle spells, they are fixed and ready for you to personalize, no guess work. It is a good idea to have business cards of each person, if not name papers can be used. Good luck in your work.

That's a great idea. You also have the option of the Fiery Wall of Protection Spellkit which includes a picture of Archangel Saint Michael (http://www.luckymojo.com/archangelmichael.html), the patron saint for policemen. Alternatively, you can petition Archangel Saint Michael asking for his protection.

If you are female, read abut the protective root Angelica (http://www.luckymojo.com/angelica.html) also included in the Fiery Wall of Protection Spell kit.

Good Luck on your job.

You can also get a talisman like this one: AMU-ITA-ALMI Amulet - Italy Catholic Aluminum Wallet Plaque: St. Michael Archangel $2.00

Dress it with some oil and pray psalm 91 over it.

The Archangel Michael doesn't only respond to those people of the Christian faith. Since this a hoodoo forum, the answers you are going to get are in line of tradtional conjure which is indeed heavily tied to Christianity. For protection you'll find that we turn to the Archangel Michael, pray the psalms, and call upon God to shield us.

If you are uncomfortable with this sort of practice there are various other protective means you can look up, like using Fiery Wall of Protection oil on a talisman or object of your choice and pray to your higher power is one of them. Carrying a protective mojo hand is another.

How to keep my office clean & protected

Unread post by TruthSeeker333 » Sun May 08, 2011 4:12 am

I could really use some help on which products to purchase from LM. I work as a counselor and often talk to clients who have gone through some really heavy stuff. One client in particular always causes me to feel this vibration or sensation that just creeps me out. I think cleansing & protecting my work space is what I need to do, BUT the catch is I can't light candles in my office due to fire codes and office policy. I also need to figure out how to do this without anyone knowing what I was doing. Is there anything else I could lay down in my office to help with cleansing and/or protection?

I was thinking of laying Fiery Wall of Protection oil around the windows and around the door frame leading into my office. I'm sure I could even do a chinese wash without anybody knowing what I was doing. Any other products you might recommend?

Don't you Fiery Wall of Protection, especially if you work as a councilor! Its a very mean formula and not exactly conductive to a healing atmosphere. If you want to lay down protection after you cleanse your space I would go with something a bit nicer like Protection or Guardian Angel products.

Now as for cleansing Chinese wash is great and will do a great job of cleansing the space, so I want to talk about cleansing you. As a reader I know just what you mean when you talk about picking up "vibes" from a client, these people come to you with their problems, and sometimes a bit of spiritual gunk sticks around after they leave. So if I were you I would pick up a bottle of Florida Water. After dealing with a distressing client pour a bit into your hands and rub them briskly together then lightly stroke down your cheeks and the back of your neck. I personally would add a few drops of either Camphor oil or Van Van oil, depending on what a divination said was appropriate, but plain Florida Water works.

You can also put some Florida Water in a spray bottle and use it as a spiritual air freshener of sorts. Lightly spray the room and the chair the client used after they left.

I do hope that helps :)

I like your statement Turnsteel... Van Van Spiritual Supplies (http://www.luckymojo.com/vanvan.html) is especially significant in this situation. Van Van is designed to change bad luck to good, and open the way to new opportunities. Its like having the best of three worlds, luck drawing, protection, and road opening.

Thanks for the insight. I'll stay away from Fiery Wall of Protection, because I do of course want to create a very healing atmosphere.
I will certainly take all of these suggestions into consideration when I place my next order. I do truly appreciate your help!

I'll second the suggestion to use some kind of air spray. You can mix up some oils and perfumes and use any old plastic spray bottle to help clear the space. i also like using my tibetan singing bowl, but that's not the usual hoodoo tradition.

Danger for my Husband and his business

Unread post by juilalynn » Sat May 21, 2011 5:22 pm

I need help to protect my husband and his new business from a threatening, dangerous enemy.

My husband and I put our life savings into my husbands dream of opening a deli. He is half partners with another man who has another business in our area, delis and soda shops chips and cigarettes.

Here is the problem: a clever and evil man who has helped my husbands partner to work on odd jobs, build part of their new store etc... got a job doing landscaping once the store he helped worked on was ready and he was no longer needed. Then my husbands partner caled this guy, I will call him "Al" to help one night in helping to open the store, he needed help in order to open the new store on the expected date. Al complied and did the work and got paid for it. The next morning, Al overslept and got fired from his landscaping job. He blamed my husbands business partner and demanded a job which he claims he lost because he helped and missed work . He further threatened that if he was not given a job in the new store with my husband he would call the police "every single day and report the illegal cigarettes" that are being sold at the business partners other store and thereby ruin both stores including my husbands new dream store.

Husbnads business partner was scared and gave Al the job. After that, Al is getting bolder and bolder in terms of demands, he is acting like the boss, the manager now that my husbands dream of having a store is coming to fruition. I worked with "Al" today and he threatened several times that if the business partner got rid of him or "screws with my money" he would tell everyone in the area not to go to the store and start a lot of trouble. This guy Al is a fixture in the neighborhood and he has brought in a lot of customers. but this is like extortion. I fear this man. I found out he has been in jail and is dangerous. I am also afraid he will begin making extraordinary extortion demands and destroy the store, like say, "GIVE ME SEVEN HUNDRED A WEEK OR i will tell people not to come here."

This is a horrible situation and I need magic because I cannot go to the police. My husbands dream and future success depend on this store and this man is a major threatening hurtle. He is dangerous and I am scared. I need to get him away from us.

Thank you. :(

Re: Danger for my Husband and his business

1. I would do some stop gossip work on this individual and put him in a mirror box so that he cannot go to the police AND it cause him to not harm your husband.

2. I would do some banishing work to get rid of this man, and do some protection work on the business, your husband, and the other man. So you are going to want to do some fiery wall of protection and sprinkle it around the business, as well as doing some money stay with me and money drawing for the business.

Frenemy in the workplace

Unread post by Lady Marie » Fri May 11, 2012 7:13 pm

I have a situation in which the sole employee at our place of business is an endless source of negativity, anger and hostility. While I do not wish ill to befall this individual I am damn tired of cleaning, fumigating and asperging every Friday evening to displace all the crap she brings to the workplace. I am avoiding specifics to avoid identifying her. It is beyond ridiculous as she will not see MD's to deal with her ongoing health problems despite having health insurance that we pay for, her teen children have maladies that are easily treated by MD's but she will not take them in and so on. I have tried to help in every positive way both mundane and through the use of folk magic. She is a person with compassion for those she feels superior to and has intelligence but no formal education. She is also the adult child of alcoholics who is really talented at getting in her own way and basking in the problem(s) rather than seeking a solution. She also has been reluctant to ask for help until the proverbial ****hits the fan and then expects the rest of the world to fix a problem that she let grow into a mountain. Tonight is that night. I am tired of putting up with it and placed a mirror under her workspace desk so that the endless silent rage and negativity that enters my home and workplace is reflected right back at her. I protected her job for years as every family crisis of hers that made our work space and by extension our home chaotic and hellish. I am done. Exhausted and relieved to finally admit that I do not know what else to do and need advice. I made peace powder to sprinkle about when troubling clients have been in , I have made oils for beauty and peace for her. I have been doing cleansings with Rue, Agrimony and Van Van weekly with Psalm 37 and washing with sugar, cinnamon and basil bringing goodness and good clients in. I have asperged her work area with mint and holy water weekly and left camphor in the corners with the windows open. She is very ill whenever I do this and I have been doing this weekly to get whatever the hell is in my space out. This person is also a witch with experience, and used to have a coven but has no discernment about her own foibles. I do fear retaliation as lashing out to blame others is her stock in trade. In fact I can honestly not recall her ever, ever admitting to an error in judgment, ignorance of a subject or taking responsiblity for a choice she freely made. I have to try and get along as she has been the sole employee for decades. Maybe I need to set firm boundaries and have permitted myself to be treated as a doormat for so long that I cannot see clearly what is going on ?? I think she might have put the evil eye on me and mine or worse Thank you for your wisdom and candor.

It sounds like you are doing good work. Now it's time for her to pull her own weight -- spiritually.

To the work you are now doing, add King Solomon Wisdom and Psychic Vision products; the only thing missing is her own discernment.

Insight combined with fear and helplessness are a corrosive combination, though -- so you might want to add Crucible of Courage, too.

After this, the next step is Banishing or Separation work -- and I am surprised you did not do it before now.

Hope this helps,

Thank you so much. I have Crown of Success oil and King Solomon incense although I am nearly out. I will attempt to pray her into clarity about her responses to issues that keep becoming highly problematic but know that after all I have done including saving her job twice, there is little else to be done except to confine her damage to my peace and well being. My beloved St Martha the Dominator has guided and protected me well. I cannot praise her highly enough .Those parties have been banished from my life only because I worked at it for over a year. She lied to my face for months and continues to be secretive about her own problems until things are so bad, I cannot even begin to unravel the mess with her. Frankly, I am concerned about her ability to do her job well enough that we are not committing malpractice with our clients. I deeply appreciate your thoughtful response and will proceed accordingly.

I burned Camphor and Benzoin on charcoal on Saturday, prayed Psalm 37 while doing so, burned king Solomon incense and washed the area (with florida water on a broom)where the problematic employee works. I put a mirror facing outward on the underside of her desk with a quincux of Cast Off Evil on it. I then crumbled lavender and lilac in all areas to cloak/distract the smell of the camphor placed in the corners with salt. Due to the many tragic and beleaguered clients who come into the office I have an established practice of smudging, scrubbing and censing the whole area weekly at minimum. Perhaps she has protection or an instinct that walls against blocking her negativity and hostility are being put up. In any event I am glad that I had gone with Miss Michaele's advice to try to work on insight and gently try to get her to see the self sabotage as I was able to keep my mouth shut about the Rue/Agrimony and Ammonia wash . It is bizarre for me to be thrown off balance so easily. I truly have been gracious and kind beyond reason and am damn tired of her shenanigans. She is coarse, vulgar and not able to give a darn about any person outside of her immediate family or friends. I know I need to grow a spine here but her manipulation of me today really took the proverbial cake. I feel tricked, abused and disrespected. It is a very unsettling situation as there is no doubt that she is a "frenemy" . It is funny as I am the attorney she is a legal secretary without formal education beyond high school but damn she is secretive and manipulative whereas I am not. At least not until I am good and angry. We have angry in spades here .

Thank you for continuing to follow my query. Or quest for peace in the office. I washed as usual on Saturday, prayed Psalm 37 and put cast off evil on a mirror on the underside of her desk in thinking that when she sends out negativity and narcississtic responses they will bounce off and hopefully change her heart a bit. I will keep doing the work and know that if the signs are off that separation is what needs to happen. Rose colored glasses maybe a problem and likely is an issue but I have to work on faith that I can change the circumstances with more effort . I cannot thank you enough for your guidance and patience . I have a plan and can follow through should my optimism be misplaced.

Job enemy problems

Unread post by Sweet Success » Mon Oct 15, 2012 11:32 am

I wanted to ask here first before I jump the gun. I have someone at work who really needs to be fired. There is animosity between us and this person demonstrates covert aggression towards me daily. He has very strong inclination of anti-social personality. I do not interact with him and this weekend he made a point of asking me about my hair color because he then said that somehow a strand of my hair ended up in his brush. He then also said that he usually burns his own hair. I have tried to be careful of my hair in particular because I use my flat iron in the bathroom and I generally pick it up off the sink but I tend to shed a lot naturally so it could have been picked up from anywhere. THIS sent the hair on the back of my neck to bristle up and my solar plexus did what I call my stomach dump (churning).

Tonight while at work when he went on his break he used the bathroom that typically only I will use. When I went to use the bathroom about an hour later I walked in there to find urine sprayed all over the seat and floor. I took that as direct aggression/hostility aimed at me,knowing I would go in there and find that. My personal feeling about him telling me about the hair was that he was telling me deliberately. I've been trying to hotfoot his ass since he started at the job 2 months ago to no avail. SO my question is, should I be concerned about getting protection around me and what can I do in the meantime until Friday rolls around when I get paid? Thank you. :)
Thank you Our Lady of Loreto.

What is this guy, a cat or dog? Spraying to mark his territory? You need to go to your supervisor or HR immediately. Wear some Compelling oil to get them to do their job and fire this lunatic.

Oh it's been an ongoing thing since he got hired. I have gone to my manager many times about this. Finally today I've had it. I wrote both of my managers a long 7 paragraph email that they can both take the rest of the night reading. There were only 4 people on duty in the building when this occurred and we have regular bathrooms, not gender specific. It's disgusting and mentally insane.

(My first) Protection Mojo Bag

Unread post by blackmirror » Sun Nov 17, 2013 10:11 pm

Hi!

I am working on assembling my first hand-made mojo bag and, before I order the materials I need from the LMCC shop, I thought I would write out my plans and see if anyone has any thoughts/suggestions for me to consider. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read my post!

FYI: I used Dr. E's essay on making mojo bags from The Black Folder as a guide for planning the bag.

The bag is for me and I plan to keep it in my desk at work. Mainly the bag is for protection but I tried to select ingredients that are also used in heath and money work.

Here are the books I used while researching for this bag:
  • The Black Folder (edited by Cat Yronwode)
Hoodoo Root and Herb Magic (By Cat Yronwode)
Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs (by Scott Cunningham)
Encyclopedia of Mystic, Saints, and Sages (by Judika Illes)
Secrets of the Psalms (by Goddfrey Selig)
The Extremely Large Herbal Grimoire (compliled by xxantuxx)
Protection:
  • I work in an extremely mentally (and possibly physically) toxic environment.
Health:
  • In addition to being surrounded by negativity from all angles, at least one unknown coworker has lied to my supervisor to try and get me fired. The building I work in is definitely haunted, and it also makes me and my coworkers physically ill. Many environmental tests have (allegedly) been done and they've (allegedly) all come up negative but still, we all feel sick most of the year and over the decades a handful of people have developed various forms of cancer. Thus, some of the herbs I have selected are also used in health work.
Money/Promotion:
  • Additionally, I would like to try and get a raise or even promotion so some of the ingredients I chose for their protective qualities also are used in money work.
THE BODY OF THE BAG
Bag:
  • Cobalt blue (or white?) flannel bag
(I know that traditionally these bags are red flannel or maybe white flannel when used for protection but my personal color I use for protection is blue. Is it acceptable to use a personal color or is it best to stick with traditional colors?)
Ingredients:
Herbs:
  • Devil's Shoestring (9) - protection / money
(I read that when Devil's Shoestring is used in a mojo bag, you should strengthen the herb by using a total of 3 or 7 total items in the bag.)
Angelica - uncrossing / quiet poltergeists / ward off evil / represents Saint Michael
Eucalyptus - cast off evil / protection
Comfrey Root - ward off evil from unknown strangers
Roots:
  • Rue - break a jinx / health matters / protection against evil eye
Minerals
  • Silver Dime - protection / ward of evil work / money
    Blueing Ball - protection
  • (Rue + Comfrey improve health matters)
THE MIND OF THE BAG
  • Psalm 64 - for protection from hidden enemies
(I plan to write this in blue ink because that is my personal color I use for protection. Is this acceptable?)
1 Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer:
preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked;
from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
3 who whet their tongue like a sword,
and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
4 that they may shoot in secret at the perfect:
suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter:
they commune of laying snares privily;
they say, Who shall see them?
6 They search out iniquities;
they accomplish a diligent search:
both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.
7 But God shall shoot at them with an arrow;
suddenly shall they be wounded.
8 So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves:
all that see them shall flee away.
9 And all men shall fear,
and shall declare the work of God;
for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
10 The righteous shall be glad in the LORD,
and shall trust in him;
and all the upright in heart shall glory.
THE SOUL OF THE BAG
  • Bodily Concern - blood
THE DRESSING FOR THE BAG
  • Van Van Oil - Clear away evil / protection / new opportunities

Well, your approach is certainly taxonomic and also takes Dr. E.'s theory of body-mind-soul quite literally.

Have you ever worked among those in the African American magical community? Have you ever had a traditional mojo hand made for you?

Either you have not studied your botany well or you made some serious typos: Rue is n herb, not a root. Devil's Shoe String, Angelica, and Comfrey Root are roots, not herbs. Your list distinguishing the two should have read like this:

Herbs:

Eucalyptus - cast off evil / protection
Rue - break a jinx / health matters / protection against evil eye

Roots:

Devil's Shoestring (9) - protection / money
Angelica - uncrossing / quiet poltergeists / ward off evil / represents Saint Michael
Comfrey Root - ward off evil from unknown strangers

All that crap about the necessity to number things that you read is just crap. Either count or don't count, but don't think that counting is a universal pattern in hoodoo, because it is not. Some idiot probably extrapolated from the traditional use of nine Devil's Shoe strings in several spells to come up with that b.s. about "when Devil's Shoestring is used in a mojo bag, you should strengthen the herb by using a total of 3 or 7 total items in the bag." Fucking role-player gamers.

Cobalt blue flannel? Good luck finding it. Seriously, that's not a colour any fabric store is likely t carry. You could special-order it i suppose or over-dye a yard or two for your own needs -- but why?

Come down to the real world, where roots are roots, herbs are herbs, flannel comes in baby blue but not cobalt blue, and nobody's counting but the Devil.

(Ya see, there was a HUGE truth in that last clause of that last sentence, but you very likely missed it. The reason we count out Devil's Shoe Strings in some spells is not to "strengthen the herb" (it's a root, not an herb, and it is DAMNED STRONG anyway) but because counting is a way to trap the Devil.)

Good luck -- and tough love -- from the old mojo-maker of Covey Road.

Greetings Ms. Yronwode!

Thank you so much for taking time to help me with the first mojo bag I have tried assembling for myself! I was trying so hard to format my post so that it could be easily read and, in the process, it seems that I messed up my list -- sorry about that. I should have just listed the items rather than grouping everything.

True, I did follow Dr. E's formula pretty closely but I thought that was a good thing since this is the first bag I have made entirely on my own. I used his formula to guide me and hoped to make the process my own by choosing my own blend of ingredients. Initially my thought was that I should only use things I could gather in and around my town because ordering everything online seemed too easy and and I wanted every step of the process to be truly meaningful. However, I later decided that was probably unrealistic and that it would be good to order most of the stuff from your store because I've enjoyed your radio show so much and I wanted to support you and your efforts.

Yes, I have had bags made for me but only via the internet and not in person. I'm not sure if the ones I ordered were truly authentic though I did have some success while using them. It's funny that I've not yet come across a real practitioner yet considering that I live in Savannah, GA in the heart of the Lowcountry and so close to the home of the Gullah people.

Here are a couple follow up comments:

Devil's Shoe Strings
  • I may have misunderstood what I read and admittedly I am sometimes literal with directions. I understand that not all things in hoodoo need to be counted but, in this particular case, I was partially following the entry for devil's shoe strings in your book on herb and root magic:
"A Mojo for Protection: Nine DEVIL'S SHOE STRINGS protect from crossed conditions when carried in red flannel. To make a combo hand, use either three or seven ingredients, adding other protective items, such as a SILVER DIME, PEONY root, Elder bark, a BLUEING BALL, HIGH JOHN THE CONQUEROR ROOT, or RUE. Feed the hand with Protection Oil or WHISKEY to keep it working."
I actually didn't know the bit about trapping the devil with counting but now! I guess that would be similar to the practice of papering the inside of your home with newsprint so that a spirit meaning to do you harm would have to read all the text first? I may have read that on your website?
Cobalt Blue Flannel:
  • I am an artist and pretty handy so I actually was going to dye my white flannel blue. That particular shade of blue has always felt like a particularly protective color for me personally which is why I thought my personal bag should be that color. Upon re-reading the devil's shoe string entry in your book, it seems that the ingredients should be in a traditional red bag so maybe I don't need to worry about the shade of blue in the first place.
Thanks again for making time to reply to me--I really appreciate it, for sure. I want this bag to be good so I'll go back to the drawing board and think more about how it should be created.

Hi Glitch,

I'm from Mobile, AL originally and blue is used down here for protection a lot. Like with blue glass bottles - to trap spirits. Folks also paint blue around the edges of windows to keep evil from coming in the house. Then there is the famous "haint blue" we paint on the ceilings of our porches to keep evil away. I believe in the Savannah, ya'll use a haint blue with a touch of green in it. ;)

I'm trying to learn more about hoodoo too, and blue is more a color of healing from what I've read. I've also seen, as you have, white used in protection in hoodoo but also the red ( when the protection "zaps" the offender like with FWP - must be the ginger, right?) :D

Welcome aboard! I hope the mojo turns out well. Savannah is very beautiful ... but VERY haunted as well. I went there once as a teenager and I could "feel" spirits watching me around some of those old buildings. I can't imagine having to work in one of those haunted buildings. I have said a prayer for your safety at work. Good luck.

Hello, dear community,

I feel that I need some extra strength protection in the workplace. I have angered my bosses/supervisors by standing up for people who have been treated poorly and discriminated against. It is very clear that they are doing everything to make these people quit, since they cannot just fire them. So now I am a target, too.

I am planning a freezer spell to make the supervisors quit the company, but I do feel that in the meantime I need a good shield from their negative energy.

I have ordered van van oil from LM, but that will take some time to arrive. I carry a Miraculous Medallion in my bra close to my heart, I ask the archangel Michael for protection before I go to work. I will print out a picture of the angel and put it on the wall over me.

Apart from that, do you have any suggestions how I can ward off their bad vibes? Obviously, when the van van arrives, I will dress myself and my office with it, but for now I'd be grateful for tips on what I can use from my spice collection or items I have in my household or that I can easily procure.

Thank you in advance and warm regards to everybody!

Hello.

I've been looking into a protection spell for the workplace . For some reason I get very anxious at work since an incident occurred at my former workplace. I was slowly gaslighted and started to think I was losing my mind and sanity. Later realized that my coworkers were looking through my cellphone in my locker. I think i may have been jinxed in the process, because still to this day I have an abnormal overwhelming anxiety at strange times. I also lost my gris gris shortly after and wonder if this may have an effect on this. I had a very strong bond with my gris gris and miss it tremendously. It was made for luck and empowerment in work, and worked wonders.

1) Is there any ritual for losing a gris gris? Ive been hesitant to make a new one since and worry if i should do something before hand.

I've had good fortune in finding a new job and even better job afterwards but there's still something looming. And at times it can cause me to nearly break. I was looking into the fiery wall of protection, but i want no harm on others. If he did jinx me i wouldnt mind giving him a taste of his own medicine, but the most important thing is getting rid of this random anxiety.

2) I feel keeping a gris gris with cloves and other things could help. I found a small piece of dark hardwood from work i want to carve. But again you hear so much about making them and not enough about losing them, and what to do.

Thank you for any and all advice.

Dublin,

You may have been jinxed. You can get a reading from an AIRR worker to determine if you were and suggest work to do.

I would cleanse your house from back to front, top to bottom with an item like chinese floor wash or ammonia.

You can make a new one, you can also use a pendulum to try and find the old one. Cleanse yourself before you make a new one with a spiritual bath.

Losing one, washing it in laundry, people touching it all kills the mojo and you need to make a new one.
