Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Hello everyone. I have had a tree on my property felled by lightning by the first storm of the year. Now I have heard it mentioned a few times in hoodoo that lightning struck wood has uses but have never heard specifics, so if anyone could give me any information on what I can do with all this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Just a comment:
Many years ago, a tree was struck by lightening in our yard also. I saved a long piece since I felt it would be a good idea to keep it around....felt it had some power....way before I got into this site.....I collect sticks and odd pieces...so now I forgot about it until now.....Great since I can now use it!!! (When I moved, friends thought me kooky with all my collections.....)
I even have a stick a beaver chipped away on......it was given to me by a woman at my last job at a nature conservancy....she never talked about magic or such, but as she gave it to me she smiled and said,"Here's a magic wand." This way before me coming to this site.....

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
I am currently gathering item for a personal conjure bag and wanted to know if anyone can recommend a trusted source of lightning struck wood? It would be much appreciated. I currently live in San Francisco and we get maybe 2 lightning storms a year...if that. I tried to keep a look out when I was in Guerneville/Forestville for a few days, but only saw fire-scarred redwoods. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you...

Its just one of those things that's darn near impossible to find on the open market, kinda like dirt daubers nests. As a shot in the dark you can call up luckymojo and ask if they happen to have any or know of where you could get some. I'm looking too, used up my last bit a week ago.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Thanks for the help and the IM's. I have been on the lookout for LSW for a while. It is another general power boost (i.e. frankincense) and can be added to most anything to "wake it up, get it moving" and to add POWER to that which it is added to. I looked on my honeymoon this past month (at LM, and in the redwood forests of guerneville and forestville) but it was Cat mentioning it on an old LMHRW podcast that sparked (no pun intended) and renewed my search. Again, thanks for the help and responses..

I give a free piece of lightning struck wood to each of my course students who requests it with a regular order. I have enough to supply to students for free, but not enough to sell to the public.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Hi all --
Well here in Chicago we had wicked storms today. On my way home a major road was closed and the police made us take a detour. However on that detour I saw a tree struck by lighnting on the property of a church.
I understand that this lightning struck wood has its purposes in hoodoo. How does one go by collecting some? Should we pay for it in this circumstance? Is there a link on how to use this in hoodoo?
Thanks all for any advice.
Be and stay blessed!

Grab as much of that as you can! It's hard to come by and it's EXTREMELY useful when you need a great deal of extra power behind something. It's great in Commanding work, Courage work, Success work, etc. It makes a fantastic gift for the magically minded people in your life, too.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Gathering wood is like gathering herbs. Some people pick it, some speak to the spirit of the plant/tree etc.
But take Devi's advice and collect some! It is potent stuff that can be used in enemy work, commanding work, etc etc. It adds great power and speed to workings and brings the unstoppable power of lightning into the fray.
And yes it makes a great gift. It's rare to find some and conjurers often get excited to get their hands on even a sliver.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
I am here in Hurricaaainnneeee~~~ alley!!!. My Ex Significant other and BFF has a "replacement Maple" that had totally flurished after one of our hurricanes.(I picked out the replacement so it is my baby!) It got hit today... I see the CHUNK of the poor tree-- but until we survey the damage, and trim the tree I will not be able to see where the lightening hit (the burn marks)... also YESTERDAY.. Lightening hit outside my office 20 feet away in the street... it was a flash of white light!!! It is That Time Of Year!!!! I will be sure to obtain some of the branch. The Tree is SO PRETTY!!!
Thanks-- I would have NEVER known this!!

Yea - I wish I had known conjure when I lived in Central Florida. We had impressive thunderstorms every day during the summer, and frequently throughout the rest of the year. Lightning struck wood would have been much easier to find. Now I rely mostly on gifted pieces.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Yes it can be any species of tree. The very fact that it was lightning stuck makes it special and magical. I am blessed to have been gifted two different specimens--oak and pine. They are amazing and will be incorporated into my work (personal courage mojo) later this summer.
Get as much as you can, as much of the actual "strike" as you can, and remember to share!
Good luck!

Two awesome trees to get lightning struck wood from, Joseph.
For those students of Cat, she does offer a free sample of Lightning Struck Wood for her students with your orders. So that's one way to get lightning struck wood.
For those of us with a penchant for rare and esoteric ingredients lightning struck wood is a gold mine.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Update... I chanted my petition the entire time I knew--- something I had been working on for someone else--- over 45 minutes while holding a small piece of my lightening stuck wood with my Holy Card dressesed with Holy Water, hands dressed with LM Crown of Success and LMSteady Work. I was "rocking" with a rhythm of a nod the entire time. I had all three of my candles going, St Jude, King Soloman and Master Key-- all were dressed with Holy Water and I even did Crown of Success on all three. All three had lightening struck wood also small sliver in each. So far as I know all signs are GREAT and it worked like a clock!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Saint Jude!!! Thank you LM!!! Thank you Ms Elvyra!!! Thank you Devi for information in a previous post about the wood!!! More updates to come!!!!

I was told that lightening struck wood as a blessing from Chango (Shango) who is seen as a powerful magician. Maybe he's adding his power to the work that you're already doing.
Thank you St. Anthony, Ancestors and Expedite.

DrX, Shango is part of Santeria, which is not the same as Hoodoo.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Matjen, thanks for mentioning that.
CallMeDrX, lightning struck wood is said to be powerful in many different cultures and by people of many religions.
If you want to see how European-Americans view it, rent the movie "The Natural" starring Robert Redford. It's about a baseball player whose bat is made from lightning struck wood.
Since we deal here with hoodoo, and hoodoo is an American combination of African, European, Native American, and Jewish magical beliefs and practices, mostly practiced by Christians, we describe its use here -- but thank you for noting how lightning struck wood is considered within West African and diasporic Yoruban religio-magical practices (e.g. Santeria, Lukumi) and how they make use of it.

I was fortunate enough to be gifted several sprigs of mistletoe that were still clinging to a branch of oak that had been struck from the tree by lightning. I have it tucked away currently; still not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
I have my own questions about lightning struck wood. I was just gifted with a decent sized piece and I have a few questions about using it. Can I keep the whole piece on my working altar as an added 'oomph' to everything there, or will that overuse it and deplete it? And I've seem talk about adding splinters to oils, etc. for added power, but is that just the burnt, charred part of the wood, or does the uncharred wood surrounding also carry the power of the lightning?
Thanks and Praise to Dr. Hernandez, St. Jude and St. Anthony for all you have done, and continue to do on my behalf. My eternal thanks to you for your many blessings!

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
hi all - Lightning struck a tree in our backyard a year ago. It posed a threat to the house by falling over, so tree men unfortunately cut it down. Now only the stump is left. Is the wood still as powerful even though it doesn't have the white burnt marks on it?? I would have saved it but this was before I researched any spells. Please advise, I wish to put some in a passion honey jar.
Thank you St Expedite ! :)

Any part of it is used, not just the charred part. You can keep it on your altar and chip pieces off.
It may be added to mojo hands, to oils, to bedroom or mattress spells, and so forth.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
GREAT!! I was out of town on vacation this weekend and was led by spirit to go outside and ask my best friend, who was chopping wood, if he had any lightening struck wood. He said YES!! I was standing several feet away from the now stump, of the lightening struck tree, in his back yard. SO HAAAAAPPPYY!! I got several big hunks of charred and un-charred wood. I am so tickled (now even more since I know it doesn't have to be only the struck part) and thought about all different ways I could use it while riding back home.
Felt like a kid on christmas morning!!
Thanks Ms Cat!!

I want to thank Ms. Cat for my LSW i recieved in my last order. Im very grateful for just even getting the chance to get ahold of some. Thank you Ms. Cat!!
i do have a question about it. Have some of you put a splinter or 2 in actual whole bottles of any LM product? There are some id like to do this with but am weary to do so because i dont want to spoil a bottle if it may become contaminated. its a really nice dry piece with no bark or any sort of contaminents that i can see.

Hi all~ My first post here!
In the Chinese Taoist (Daoist) Tradition, lightning stuck wood is used to make religious emblem for warding off evil and bad spirits. The type of wood used is important, and also the wood used has to be from a tree that still lived after the lightning has stuck the tree.
If anyone knows where I can obtain some of these goodies, please PM me. Thank you!

Lightning-struck wood has many uses in all kinds of cultures around the world. It is believed any fighter who wears a lightning stone will surely win in every fight, or a gambler who wears a ring set with it will win in cards.
It's very powerful stuff, and it's very fast. Adds raw power to any spell you do.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
shadowred -- thanks for the Taoist information about Lightning Struck Wood. That was new to me.
We have the same belief in America -- the tree should have lived after the lightning strike.
I do have some of this for my students. The tree that was struck was a tall Redwood tree and the pieces that came off were huge ... but it is only for my students; i do not sell it.

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
I have some lightening struck wood from Miss Cat and Lucky Mojo, and I also have my own from a very special Maple tree that my BFF replanted to replace the tree that was destroyed in Huricane Ivan. I feel like that's my tree in his front yard, and it is really. The second tree was hit by lightening, but it did not kill the tree. The tree is alive, well and beautiful!
Y'all, this is one more great insentive to study, learn and work with the best, Miss Cat! Miss Cat does so much in our community and for her students and grads. I am just so thankful to be a part of it and to continue the learning process with the greatest teacher!

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
I have a question,I have a huge old maple tree in my front yard that was struck by lightening 20 years ago towards the top. Will the tree's wood still have power to it after all these years?

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
I have a few questions to ask if it's ok?
Can you get any part of a tree that was struck by lightning.. or do it actually have to be that specific piece that struck by lightning?
Can you use it in love, reconciliation, evil removing and money spells?
Some say is not good to burn wood struck by lightning, because it will bring some forth of evil spirits or negative in your home.. So I really don't know IF you can burn the wood in candles, and incenses or not... What are ways the wood can be used in spells and rituals?

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Good Afternoon, Mysticguy,
I was always told that it is the entire limb of the branch immediate to the location that was struck by lightning. Not the whole tree.
It gives power to anything.
I wouldn't burn it. I would just add it to give it power (like giving the breath of life) then, I would remove it at time of disposal and keep it for other work.
This is hard to come by (as you can see from all the previous posts). Why burn it?
Just my thoughts...
Hope this helps. Have great afternoon

Re: Lightning Struck Wood Questions and Answers
Lightening struck wood ,like Frankincense, gives an extra "uumppph" to what you are working on or with.
No, it will not bring evil spirits into your home. Mine would be filled, if that were the case.
Yes, you can add it to candles for dressing just as you would with herbs.
Yes, you can add it to a Mojo.
Lucky Mojo Products Baths, Oils, Incense come ready to go. Yes you can add it if you like. I have.
Miss Cat does offer lightening struck wood to her students.
Yes, you can harvest it from a place in the tree that has not been "burned" by the strike. If the tree is going to live, take the part that is going to go anyway, and let the rest of the tree recover. A piece that is a big as a brick will take a long-- long time to work with.
The tree though especially if it was a branch like in an old Oak tree, is a living spirit. Earlier in the thread, I mentioned a whole maple was taken down by a lightening strike. I have also seen whole 200 year old Oaks struck and then they do die. Just like any root we work with, the root has a spirit and is working for you whether it is for money, love, luck, protection, compelling, controlling or cursing.
I'm thankful for the tree or root for the sacrifice. I'm looking for a better choice of words, but that is really how I feel.
I hope this advice is helpful to you!
Be Blessed!!!
