Hawthorn Berries Questions and Answers

Post by Miss_Liz » Mon Aug 06, 2012 10:56 am

I know traditionally hawthorn berries are sprinkled around the home, but since I desperately hope we move from here soon can I instead add them to my love box? I have a box I use as kind of a growing container spell for my love life. I'm about to refresh it to be more relevant to current situations.

Yes, you can keep them in a box or add them to a mojo, and they can also be added to tea.

ere is a link that will further explain some of the uses for Hawthorn berries:

This is an academic question regarding a plant medically vs. magically.

I also practice medical herbalism, and have a tea recipe that is a great health tonic. It has large amounts of hawthorn berry and hawthorn leaf and flower, and wood betony in it. If you drink plants, such as hawthorn berries, in a tea, while performing heavy magical work as well, would those magical properties also apply? I noted the usage of hyssop in purifying baths, and the tradition among some workers is also to take a small drink of tea as well for internal magical purification.

I'm interested in the protective qualities of the hawthorn and purification properties of the wood betony as an adjunct to magical practice, which is why I asked. I will continue to use the correct herbal baths as prescribed (hyssop, 13 herb, etc.) as appropriate. I definitely feel better after those magical baths, and I do not tend to drink them, as I steep them for concentration, which makes them a bit bitter for consumption.

Hello BellaSolanae,

Ingesting an herb-based tea vs. bathing/washing with it, would still tap into the magical properties of those herbs. As you know, please ensure that any herbs used for teas meant to be ingested are non-toxic or safe in such quantities.

Good luck.
