Post by atricus » Thu Jul 14, 2011 6:54 pm

In Hyatt Volume 2 is mention of a "love root" that when is put into rum it can make the girl you are interest on fall in love with you. Does anyone know what this root is?

Can loveage root be used in a same sex mojo bag? I see information about it being used to draw love generally, but also to information that says it draws the opposite sex....is this one of those herbs that can be used both ways?

I am wanting to work it with queen elizabeth root and lodestone. If loveage is only for opposite sex attraction, what could I use instead?

keylewm,

Lovage root is the same as Bo Hog root, and bo hogs are known for their sexual aggressiveness. The root can be used on either men or women, to increase their ardor.

You can read a little bit more about bo hogs and hoodoo here:

https://www.luckymojo.com/blueslouisiana ... ainey.html

Lovage Root (Bo'hog Root)

Hi, guys!

I read in Cat's green book that lovage can be used for a 9 day pre-dawn bath (followed by crossroads-dumping) to increase/deepen the love someone has for you. However, I seem to remember the book saying that the lovage "tea" should be prepared EACH morning for 9 days, while the verbiage is less specific about when the tea should be prepared on the LM website's page for lovage.

Does it make a difference if I make it all in advance or each morning? Thanks!
Thank you St. Helena, Expedite, St. Anthony, St. Martha, and St. Cyprian.

Hi BellaLupa,

I personally prefer to brew the tea daily for any spell that is done over several days. This way, you get a fresh supply and you can reiterate your prayers over it as it steeps.

Good luck.

This product qualifies to be included in the Lucky Mojo 6 Herb and Root Special.

When you order SIX of our regularly-priced herbs or roots, you only pay for FIVE and, as a BONUS GIFT -- we will also send you a FREE Red Flannel Bag that you can use to make your own mojo hand. Just order the Special, and be sure to list your SIX herbs and roots in the message area of your order.

I know this is a total yronwode question since I know she's into botany - one of my friends from Georgia has been growing a plant with the Latin name, "Ligusticum canadense."

He called the plant, "Bo' Hog Root" and said it was a very powerful aphrodisiac that is popular among African Americans, as well as love attractant.

I wanted to know if the American Bo' Hog Root and the European Lovage can be used for the same purposes?

Grasshopper,

There are many species of Lovage. All are called Bo' Hog Root in the South and many are also called Osha or Licorice Root. Note that they are NOT Licorice -- that is just a common name.

These common names encompass both the Ligusticum genus, of which there are about 2 dozen species worldwide, and also the Levisticum genus (e.g. Levisticum officinale, English Lovage), which used to be in the Ligusticum genus in former years (e.g. Ligusticum levisticum) and other previous taxonomic binomials no longer in use (e.g. Hipposelinum levisticum).

In addition to your cited European Lovage (e.g. Ligusticum scoticum, Scots Lovage, Shunis) and American Lovage (e.g. Ligusticum canadense, Canadian Lovage), there are also species known as Asian Lovage (e.g. Ligusticum chuanxiong, Ligusticum sinense, Ligusticum chinensis). These are commonly named Chuanxiong in Chinese and given regionl names like Szechuan Lovage in English.

All species are used the same way.

Is there a good substitute for lovage? I'm waiting on my LM shipment but I don't think it's going to come in time for this particular purpose. Not sure if the purpose makes a difference but it's a love-related spell. I am wondering if licorice root would be a good substitue since Cat mentioned they are similar above and I do have that on hand. I also have orris root and I know that technically lovage is for "drawing in a lover of the opposite gender" and Orris is specific to a man, which is what I am going for in this case. I have that on hand too so I'm wondering if that would be a good substitute.

Sorry if this is not the appropriate place for the question. I wasn't really sure but figured I'd post and it can always be removed if not.

Hello loyal_stranger,

Read Miss Cat's above more carefully. She clearly states that Lovage root is sometimes called licorice root, but it is NOT the same as licorice root:

"There are many species of Lovage. All are called Bo' Hog Root in the South and many are also called Osha or Licorice Root. Note that they are NOT Licorice -- that is just a common name."

If you are trying to draw a man, you could use Queen Elizabeth (orris) root, but that's not to say that orris root is a "substitute" for lovage.

The medical qualities of this product are described in this book, with traditional folkloric remedies for home-herbalists to try.

Thanks! I know it's not a "substitute" just figured it would work in the place of it in this particular instance. I may just wait now at this point as I didn't have a chance to get to it last night and probably won't for another week anyway.

Hey all,

I think this question may have been asked in the past but just to clarify, is Lovage Root the same as Osha Root?

Thank you.
