Hello jkad,

Steep the hyssop into a tea and use this to pour over yourself while reciting Psalm 51 ("Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow."). You can do this in the shower trailer, and collect some of the water into a cup and throw it at a crossroads.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hyssop Herb

Use in Magic:
Hyssop is an herb of purification that is employed in home cleansing and protection, to put an end to crossed conditions, to take off a jinx, and -- when used in conjunction with the recital of Psalms 51 -- to take off sin or guilt.

Spell Methods:
Lucky Mojo Herbs, Roots, and Minerals are natural products of the Earth used in a wide variety of hoodoo, conjure, rootwork, folk magic spells and in folk medicine, according to traditional cultural beliefs.

Product Details:
According to the species and the use intended, Lucky Mojo Herbs, Roots, and Minerals are available in a variety of forms, including whole, chipped, sliced, cut-and-sifted, and powdered. Size and shape may vary, as these are products of Nature. They are packaged with one or more spells of magic printed on the label and we recommend that practitioners read about their use in the book "Hoodoo also Herb and Root Magic" by catherine yronwode, which contains many more botanical and mineral spells.

Vibe 77,

Hyssop tea is traditionally drunk for spiritual cleansing, helping soothe the intestinal tract, or for colds. Haha my niece lit up when she smelled it and asked, "Can I drink it too, please?" when I made her a hyssop bath sachet. I like to drink some as a tea while taking a hyssop bath as well. Just make sure it's only the hyssop herb you are drinking as the tea and not mixed with any oils, salts etc.. Please also check with your Dr before adding any new herbs to your regiment. Blessings!

Does Psalm 51 only used for getting rid of sins or can it get rid of uncleanliness too? I'm making a hyssop bath today and will it be okay if I toss my bath water towards the setting sun?

Two.2HeadedBear,

The Psalm 51 / Hyssop combo will help you rid of uncleanliness as well. The "make me white as snow" takes note of that fact. Yes, throwing the water to the west(setting sun) is traditional.

Best of luck!

Nicolejhn,

Well, that is not at all the way i was taught.

1) I was never taught to BOIL hyssop, but rather to steep it like tea. As a long-time herbalist, i can tell you that boiling it to create a decoction renders it bitter and unpleasant. You will wish to drink some of the tea as well as bathe with it, so steep it just as you would any herbal tea.

2) The text of Psalms 51 does not refer to boiling or watching something boil or even to steeping or waiting while it steeps. It refers to "cleansing" (also said as "purging" in the King James Version of the Bible) -- to cleanse from within and without. Therefore it would seem pointless to say Psalms 51 while MAKING it -- you would say that while drinking it and bathing in it!

3) Adding in the 23rd Psalm is off-track. That is a Psalm of blessings, luck, protection, safety, and prosperity, and has nothing at all to do with cleansing yourself of sin, wrong-doing, or evil energies. Reserve that for a different moment.

Read the previous several pages and learn more about the role of Hyssop in hoodoo and in Biblical folk magic.

As a side note, remember that this product qualifies to be included in the Lucky Mojo 6 Herb and Root Special.
