Hello everyone, Jmal here
Hello everyone, Jmal here
A BIG hello to everyone. I am thrilled to be here and glad to meet you all. Always good to be in the company of very diverse people and cultures, with one collective goal in mind - to learn more about the craft and art of hoodoo. I'm quite a newbie in hoodoo and very interested in it, and looking forward to better understanding hoodoo in practice and the rich history behind it. I have had a read-through on some of the posts and I must say that I am humbled (and even touched in some cases) by some of the lived experiences and the excellent answers provided by some of the more senior members in the forum. There is literally a wealth of knowledge here that it can be quite overwhelming for me. Nevertheless, I will navigate around the forum to better understand the structure and organization on the various topics. I look forward to learning from expert advices to the similar questions I have myself and (thankfully!) found posted here, as well as contributing to as much as I can to this forum. I am so glad to be here!
Blessings,
Jmal

Hi JayDee,
Thanks for the warm welcome and also for sharing the resource links. I have had a look at some, and will certainly spend more time dissecting them all in greater detail. These will indeed help me have a better grasp on the 'language' and terminology that's integral in understanding the hoodoo system - concepts, theory, practice and all!
Blessings,
Jmal

Jmal,
Being new to the practice, I suggest reading the forum, which is filled with expert advice and tips on doing the work. You can purchase the Lucky Mojo produced books which are all based on traditional and authentic hoodoo. If you purchase from Lucky Mojo, they do a baker's dozen deal.
https://www.luckymojo.com/mixed-dozens.html
A must have for your collection, and probably one of the first books I would order is Miss Cats book Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic.
Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic: https://www.luckymojo.com/hoodooherbmagic.html
The Hoodoo heritage festival is a great way to learn about hoodoo by real practitioners, if you order soon you would also get a goodie box which comes with all the spell items needed to conduct each working, as you are taught by the presenters.
Hoodoo Heritage Festival: https://hoodooheritagefestival.com/
Past festival recordings are available as well you can find them here: forum269.html
Every Sunday is the Lucky Mojo Radio show, drop in to listen, sign up on the forum and you can also get a free reading and spell advice: https://www.luckymojo.com/radioshow.html

Re: Hello everyone, Jmal here
Thanks again on the information of more resources. They're all rich in content.
And, regarding the radio show, I've tuned into some of the archive recordings and I must say they are very good. I especially love the section on client reading and spell advice. They're even a learning experience for whoever's listening in for sure. It's a pity I didn't know about this radio show earlier. But, never too late! So here's dropping a note just in case anyone in future is read this to please check out the archives - you won't regret it and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Re: Hello everyone, Jmal here
Hello jmal, and welcome!
I'm thrilled to see you're enjoying your time here on the Forum, and look forward to many future interactions! There's so much to read, so much to learn...there's lifetimes of information distilled down into posts for everyone to grow from. If you haven't played with it yet, definitely make use of the "Search" function! It will help navigate the information you're looking for as well as those inevitable "Now...I KNOW I saw {whatever} here somewhere..." moments, lol.
Like JayDee said, the Lucky Mojo Hoodoo Rootwork Hour is ongoing still! You can tune in every Sunday at 3PM PST/6PM EST for the newest episodes. There's always a forum thread created for every upcoming show, so they're easily followed.
Also, a new show has JUST launched on the LMC Radio Network! Mystics, Mages, and Magical Places goes live every Monday at 4pm PST/7PM EST and has a forum thread available as well with links to the previous shows and announcements for upcoming shows!
For both shows, you can sign up for a free BlogTalk Radio login which will allow you to participate in the chat rooms while they're live on-air!
Welcome again, and Blessings!

Hello, Reverend Art,
Nice to meet you, and thanks for the warm welcome and the onboarding. Using the search function is indeed a very useful - and often overlooked - way to revisit content we know we've seen it somewhere before but can't quite put a finger on where we last saw it. It happened to me once already, so I appreciate the tip!
Thanks too for the heads-up on the new show and about the signups... there's a wealth of materials on the forum websites. Had quite a bit of a read and I can see there's so much heart that goes into each and every sharing and writing.
I am no doubt looking forward to studying more of the content and leveling up my understanding of the cultures and practices of the hoodoo art in the coming days and weeks ahead.
Many Blessings,
Jmal
