Re: Hoodoo Bibliography and Book Suggestions for African American Folk Magic

I think the price is too steep honestly. A lot of work can be done with $700 and I honestly feel that as rootworkers we might as well ask our spirits to teach us braucherei especially if you work with native american or germanic spirits. Marc

Re: (Non-Hoodoo) News Stories on African and African Diasporic Folk Lore Religion and Magic

Eoghan,

I have a question for you and anyone else familiar with this topic. I've noticed the emphasis on using room corners in some hoodoo spells. For example, in "Mules & Men", Zora Neale Hurston describes a poppet spell where the poppet is bound by rope and placed in a corner. I've seen some ...

This was a great article! I kind of wonder if maybe I should try to contact the Brassieur guy since I'm kind of close to him to find out more about old-time practitioners. Hi Sharon,

I missed last night's teleconference on working with your ancestors.

I'll be honest and tell you that I'm no expert on this as I've started working with my ancestors seriously for 2 months and my altar faces east because it's on my computer table which faces East. I have a big statue ...

Thanks Cat for the info. I remember in the conference when you and Dr. Kioni spoke about the hot/cold principles in hoodoo and how this goes back to Africa. I agree with you because I asked my aunt (who's from the Zulu tribe in South Africa) why white is the color of the ancestors and she said that ...

Cat,

Quimbisero Eoghan

I have a question. Who's Aunt Cecilia? I've never heard of that spirit before.

My other question is that I know that the spirits are the source of power, but isn't it also the power of the practitioner that takes part as expressed through one's prayers in conjuring?

Hey Cat and everyone,

Yeah! I heard of "Sticks, Stones, Roots, and Bones: Hoodoo, Mojo, and Conjuring With Herbs" by Stephanie Rose Bird, and I've been to the book's website at Llewellyn. Llewellyn is the publishing company and the author of the book is an African-American green witch with ...
