Re: Historical and Contemporary Hoodoo Root Doctors, Practitioners, Fortune Tellers, and Shop Owners

My grandmother was a Moorish Jew from the south of France. Although I have not been able to trace her side of the family any further back yet, she was born in 1871 and from my historical research it seems likely that her ancestors had at the very least co-mingled with the Moors who came north out of ...

Re: Crossroads and Crossroads Ritual: Questions and Answers

I'm delighted to be able to have this kind of discussion, even though it is somewhat tangential to LM and its products and use... the ideas and concepts are important and it's good to hear various viewpoints

Keep in mind that just as often you hear about going to the forks of the road, a Y shaped three way crossroad. Also the black man at the crossroads in hoodoo isn't Papa Lagba or Elegua, they are all separate beings.

The question was about what constitutes a cross roads, and ...

Re: Crossroads and Crossroads Ritual: Questions and Answers

In all the classic African American tales/narratives about the cross roads (and not insignificantly the most used form of the word(s) is cross roads, not crossroads), they are always referred to as where "two roads cross - this way and that way" making a full X... so a T intersection would seem to ...

yeah misterkurtis... it is interesting, and of course in the last sentence I made a typo... it should be that the graveyard was a QUIET place to practice, not QUITE!

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers

All the mojo bags that I've purchased from LM have had small cat charms sewed onto the bag. I understand the relationship and function of the cat and the charm in this regard. My question is, if in making a mojo bag one puts LM Black Cat hair in the bag, and even puts (non LM) a real black cat bone ...

Re: Hoodoo in Fiction Books Movies Film TV Television Shows Stage Plays

I knew Son House and he would tell different stories at different times to different people. I think, as a product of his cultural context, he believed in conjuring and such, but I'm not sure whether Johnson (Robert that is) actually ever mentioned selling his soul to Son. I did complete some ...

In the second picture Barack Obama is also carrying

* a subway or El token (old style),

* a cross that is not carved into the stone but printed onto a piece of onyx,

* The "monkey" god is an amulet of Hanuman (known also as 'Anjaneya' (son of Anjana) or Maruti (or Maruti nandan), one of the ...

Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers

I have a Black cat bone that I was given by a worker in the South. It's a long bone from the leg. It has been fixed. Would it detract from its usefulness to cut it into several smaller pieces for use in mojo bags or other purposes, or must it be kept intact?

I have been a customer and user of Lucky Mojo products for several years. LM is the only line (outside of a few "doctors" I know in the South) that I trust. Cat knows her stuff for sure and the quality of LM products is unsurpassed.

Re: Historical and Contemporary Hoodoo Root Doctors, Practitioners, Fortune Tellers, and Shop Owners

Recently University of Maryland archaeologists found new evidence of hoodoo practice surviving in Annapolis as late as 1920 (although as Bri said it still is). The finding is based on an excavation in an 18th century mansion in the Annapolis historic district. Following are several links to online ...

Greetings all...
It's a pleasure to be part of this forum. I think what Cat and all the people at Lucky Mojo do is terrific. I'm a professor at a major midwestern "research" university (which really only means that it's an expensive place for the students to attend lol) and I teach courses in the ...
