In retrospect, what you say seems pretty intuitive...return the offereing/gift to where it originally came...nature...or in the case of non perishables...to charity. I really should have thought of this because I always thank the Father for the creation of the material used ...

When you offer food to a saint, loa, deva, etc. do you eat it after a period of time or throw it out, and if the latter, how? The bourbon and rum are no matter as they are consumed (evaporate) quickly. But cake, fruit, honey, etc. linger and become a nuisance. I'd also rather not keep dead flowers ...
