how can I use hot tamales candy in a love spell? would it work similar to Ginger? it is a sweet cinnamon candy that gets spicy as you continue to eat it. I bought some today and would like some suggestions and thoughts on using this in love work. thanks

Luckyboy, just because something exists, that does not mean that there is any use for it in folk magic.

Dates (the fruit, not the activity) are not mentioned in Hoodoo Herb and Root magic, but I am seeing them crop up as a sweetening ingredient in other traditions such as middle eastern-based work.

Dates are used in some Middle Eastern practices, especially those derived from Arabia and North Africa. They are often used as offerings, in love spells, and other rites. That said, I do not know any uses in African American Conjure.

Hi Mrs Cath:

It's been a while since I have spoken to you. Hope you are well.

I have a problem at work. Another co-worker has been putting salt mackerel in my patient's laundry. Everything is smelling so fishy -- her beddings, clothes, rags, towels, bedpad, etc. My patient is bed-ridden so she is stuck there.

There is also some in my laundry at my house too.

Could you please tell me the reason why the other co-worker is doing this and what can I do about it.

I have never heard of the use of salt mackerel in hoodoo. If she's doing this on purpose (so she didn't accidentally drop her lunch into the laundry bin, for example), it could be for control or something. Have you mentioned this to your manager? I'm a nurse myself so that just shocks me, a patient all bedridden being exposed to something that smells so bad

I agree with the above work and worked as a cna in nursing homes, I for one would go to the DON or the admin, that is something a patient espically one who is bedridden and can't speak for themselves when needed, if it's something to help thats one thing but what patient who has to live in bed really wants to smell fishy?

The question I have is a bit of a departure from the focus of the topic thus far. It's about spicy food.

Spicy things such as red pepper are typically used for causing discomfort in the target of a spell. But there are many people who enjoy spicy food.

So the question is: when a person eats spicy food, are they basically applying hotfoot powder to their own selves by doing so?

Intent always plays a major role, of course. A secondary question would be whether the effects of any given herb are likely to be felt even without a strong conscious intent.

That's not the default, no. But red pepper, black pepper and garlic are also used in protection work.

Of course, the cook could turn a good curry or mess of chili into a hot-foot dish with fervent prayer.

Hot spicy East Indian curries are some of my favourites when it comes to marriage work. Coriander and cumin are classic additions that encourage good conjungal relations and fidelity; and combined with lots of ginger and a little cayenne to spice up the bedroom later in the evening... well... you get the idea.

Thai and Vietnamese curries and soups on the other hand are great for protection and uncrossing work with their liberal use of lemongrass and garlic. The heat there tends to give them strength and potency in what I've thus far experimented with.

For crossing work, it would be fascinating to try an batch of vindaloo: with the massive use of cayenne, vinegar and black mustard the recipe calls for - no doubt some damage could ensue. Although cooked lovingly, with white mustard instead of the black and containing the full head of garlic called for: it, it's still one of our household's favourite protective and tasty meals!

Wonderful idea! But I've been told, by people who really know their conjure, that cayenne is pretty dicey for love work. I once had a client, for instance, who was steered wrong and put chili peppers in a honey jar to bring her man back. He came back home, all right, but they fought constantly!

I'd say a prayer over the dish, calling on the red and black pepper to protect the situation, to stand guard against interruptions, attacks and bad luck.

LOL! Thank you for the warning Miss Michaele - it will be borne in mind and I like the use of the pepper as a ''guard'' for future dinner-work.

While in our case the cayenne has never caused a fight - it has pushed to the surface deep rooted issues which we hadn't been willing to discuss and needed attention and resolution (strong discussions and uncomfortable subjects). So user beware...

Traditionally, Wicca teaches to do for yourself and that's where the understanding of herbalism many Wiccans possess comes from.

The so-called "magical" properties of bay laurel, for example, lays in the fact that they possess eugenol (without the levels of thymol found in cloves, for example) so they are one of the traditional ingredients in chicken noodle soup, and one reason chicken noodle soup is so good when you have a cold.

The effects of eugenol will still affect you whether you believe in them or not.

Now, would bay laurel be an appropriate burnt offering to the far shooter when asking him for psychic powers? Sure. But I'm not sure why you'd do so or how you could do it accidentally while cooking.

The simple fact remains that if tomorrow all the technology was gone and I was the last human on earth I'd know what local plants to eat for a cold... although I'd be more likely to go get canned goods and the like..

If you are at all good at psychometry, let the spirit tell you when your herbs are expired. Otherwise, well, if they are too stale to use in the mundane way (whether cooking or medicine), they are probably too far gone magically.

Its not. There are many, many different kinds of wasp, and many kinds of flying insect erroneously called a wasp, within the USA. What most would call a regular wasp nest is generally made by a paper wasp, these are very aggressive insects. Dirt daubers, or mud daubers make a nest out of, wait for it, Dirt or Mud! The insect itself is very peaceful, you near have to sit on one to get it to sting you, and they are home body's, one of the two mated pairs, usually the male, always stays at the nest to watch over the larva while the other member fly's off to gather food.

I'm sure you can see from the descriptions that the two species, and there nests have very different uses in magic.

Hi renascent,

I've used the single herbs such as borage, goldenseal and feverfew in infusions without trouble. Do make sure you're aware of the effects of what you're consuming however since many herbs are toxic and/or interact with other medications and foods in your diet. Furthermore, you never know what you might be allergic to, so do the sip test first! But Miss Cat would be the expert. (and taking a tea internally CAN BE conjure work BTW...

)

It would sure help to know the language of your grandfather's culture, for there is no "universal language" on Earth.

For instance:

Tulsa is the name of a city in Oklahoma that was settled by the Native Americans who were forcibly removed there by President Andrew Jackson in the 1830s under the Indian Removal Act. We do sell some ingredients that are included in gunpowder (and are also used for making many other things), but the making of gunpowder is too dangerous for us to describe to customers whose experience levels with chemical reactions and whose mental stability as well may vary a great deal.

I have heard somewhere that distilled/deionised water kills the God-given property of herbs, dried and fresh. Is this true?

Some root-workers on the other hand recommend distilled/deionised for hygiene reasons especially if the herbs are used in a brew fit for human consumption.

It sounds like a load of bollocks to me. I didn't see it in the catalog either and HHRM doesn't offer an alternate name. You might try to call the shop during business hours and ask if it's available. For as extensive as their herb catalogue is there are some herbs and roots which are either difficult to obtain or raise, rare, endangered or otherwise unavailable.

Squiill Root is "a dangerous irritant poison, producing inflammation of the alimentary canal, and urinary organs, and proving fatal in the dose of only 24 grains of the powder." It suppresses coughs when mixed with serious opioids such as heroin, morphine, and opium. You can no longer even buy Indonesian-made African Sea Coconut Cough Syrup from us because it has Squill Root in it and the FDA has banned its import. Sorry, folks.

Hello everyone!:)

I've recently been thinking a lot on the uses of non-traditional plants and herbs in hoodoo practice. I've been thinking about how everything has spirit- energy in it. You see I live in a suburb of Atlanta, and I'm seventeen; so High John, Chamomile, Five-finger grass, and Damiana like herbs are extremely hard to get. Plus, I don't have money presently to buy them online.

The result is me having to study extensively what these herbs may look like to be able to identify them, which is impractical in terms of actually "doing' conjure work. Though studying is good- you gotta actually do what you study!

So my question is this- how can one figure out the uses of non- traditional plants and herbs, from let's say China, or Brazil. We have alot of monkey grass, English ivy and kudzu around here. And a whole' lotta other stuff! I'm itching to know the energy paths of these so I can use them in love, money, blessing, or other works. I'd appreciate everyone's input on what they think, and their experience and advice on the matter. If I could, personally, get hold of the powers of these different varieties- my work would be even more satisfying and empowering!

P.S.- I'm not trying to avoid the common plants and herbs. I just don't have them!:)

Even as you may do a Google search and receive 100's of 1000's information on any subject, if you want the true reliable information, you will get it here. If you need herbs, you do not have in your city, state, etc. you better believe that Lucky Mojo has them...oftentimes readily available. On average herbs cost $3.50-$4.00 according to what you order.

You are seventeen, you say, but you are not the first man who has walked the earth. Always ask the elders, shamans, witches, and medicine people who live where plants grow exactly what they are used for and how they are deployed. Don't try to re-invent the wheel.

As for expense, you should purchase a copy of "Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic" for $16.00 and a used field guide to the plants of Georgia at any used book store for about $5.00 - $10.00. Then follow this three-step system:

1) Since hoodoo originated in Georgia and the South, all you will have to do is go to a local state or regional park and start observing what grows there in nature. Once you have learned to identify the plants around you, you will be well on your way to learning how to use them.

Salt peter is an ingredient in gunpowder. If you cannot find gunpowder, saltpeter can sometimes be used as a substitute. Check with your rootworker to see if this is the case in this case.

Gunpowder is used to make fireworks and ammunition, so if you have either of those lying around you can "harvest" some from there.

Having just watched a Dead Files series program, Amy Allan mentioned a product called Tar Water, which she said comes from New Orleans. One drop of this in each room and you will never have any spirits in your home again, good or bad. Does anyone know where this product can be purchased?

This is a forum to assist the customers of Lucky Mojo Curio Company. I don't believe that Lucky Mojo sells tar water.

We don't sell tar water because it is carcinogenic and althoough you may get by with one bottle now and then, i do not want to be filling hundreds of bottles and ruining my health.

I've stumbled upon a huge collection of perfectly spherical, sandstone rocks. Some are pretty large (golfball size) and some are tiny as marbles. Apparently they're some kind of sandstone concretions, and they are sold under names such as called Shaman Stones, Thunderballs, and Moqui Marbles.

They're significant in some sort of Native American practice, but I can't seem to dig much deeper than lots of new-agey information. They radiate this amazing spiritual energy and I've never seen them anywhere before.

Do these have any use in hoodoo? I'm thinking about including small ones in mojos.
