Oh no Miss Aida, I was thinking about roots that customers may have held onto for too long. Not sure how long "too long" is, in which case, should we assume that lack of smell means a root needs to be replaced or fed in some way?

Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
Hello loves! <3
ChynnaDoll here, i been studying and practicing solitary now for a year and am hoping to learn more about myself and the craft here by reaching out and stepping outside of 'comfort zone' haha. I am tired of thinking myself in circles over this idea that came to me after I was guided to receiving a beautiful collection of sea dollars, shells, and a pair of crab claws about 2 weeks ago (or i feel as if I was considering the happenstance of me coming across these and how far i live from the ocean despite me always wanting to go there), so I'm finally posting about it.
As i view myself as a gnostic shaman/mystic I dont follow one system specifically as I just follow my intution, so I'm a little confused on what meaning crabs carry specifically in Hoodoo (besides their used as a powder in reversing cause they walk backwards and protective work) as there are numerous meanings depending on your perspective and if there's any recording or evidence of a crap amulet being made with a crab claw. I received them with the sea dollars and shells which to me at first symbolized abundance and intuition (since Cancer does rule the intuition aspect and IS a crab) as well as other meanings such as fertility.
I feel like i received these claws to do something with them (not crush no....i couldnt bring myself to do that once I read about the powder LOL) and after a while of thinking i thought to make them into a necklace but after thinking of what to charge/program the amulet for I'm at a lost of what to do as with hoodoo crab shell powder is used in reversing magic and i wanted an AUTHENTIC hoodoo amulet.
Any tips or...should I just let them continue to sit on my altar since I cant bear to smash them? HAHA LOL

Hi,
there is a thread here
crab-shell-powder-questions-and-answers-t12723.html, if you fish through it, you may find help there. It does have a mention (the brief look I had) about using the claw itself.
hope it helps.

Hello, Maria84,
I would not recommend doing that.
This is what Galangal (or "Little John" or "Chewing John" does: www.herb-magic.com/little-john-to-chew.html
This is what High John does: www.herb-magic.com/john-the-conqueror-whole-small.html

Hello, when I was at the workshop I asked about Dirt Dauber and a associate at lucky mojo said they sold their last one, well that was a while ago but I'm interested in ordering some and I can't find it listed on luckymojos site, is it a custom order or do they not carry it anymore?
I can't find it anywhere to buy and I only order from luckymojo or a trusted member of lucky mojo. thank you. sorry if this was asked already in a previous thread I couldn't find it.

Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
On the topic of herbal/plant spoilage, I would like to point out that when some very ancient Egyptian tombs were opened, jars of wheat and corn were found that were still viable after 3500 years. In other words, if you planted then seed, it would still grow. They were still "alive."
Therefore, it seems if you protect a plant artifact from air and moisture its shelf-life may be well-nigh infinite. The key point is to keep it dry and sealed as air-tight as possible.
Hope this helps,
J SG

We have lots of dirt daubers and their old nests here in Alabama. Have you asked any farmers or neighbors with old sheds? Not sure where you are, but in the South, you can find them if you ask around, and look around at old buildings.

Fake. One Balm of Gilead Bud and one fat seed of some species or another.
The real ones are not just hard to find -- it is ILLEGAL to wild-craft them because they are an endangered species of rare orchid.]/quote]
Indeed, and thanks Catherine for helping me recently with this issue. I am pretty sure the "Eve" part of the bogus pair is a dried lotus seed.
Now the question is: in reference to the Doctrine of signatures, would this pair, even if not true Adam-and-Eve, still be useful in male/female relationship work?

Hello, Johnriggs1933
Miss cat has stated that she uses Balm of Gilead (see this page: www.luckymojo.com/adamandeve.html )
And take a look at this page also: http://www.luckymojo.com/esoteric/occul ... tools.html
Otherwise (in the event that she doesn't see this post), you could post this query to the Yahoo student group (I know she'll see it there).
Take care

Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
I had a reading with Conjureman Ali and I was given the green light for reconciliation work, my issue is- my target (my ex) is extremely angry with me and doing his best to put me out of his life forever. I will be making a doll baby out of his boxers and wanted to what herbs, grasses etc would work best?
I am looking to instill love while also healing the wound I cause and allowing for forgiveness, I want to fill the doll baby with these, as well as look for oils to anoint skull candles.
Which herbs, roots and curios work best for love?
For healing?
For forgiveness?

Violet leaves help mend a broken heart http://herb-magic.com/violet-leaf-whole.html

I love love love the LM reconcilation spell kit and all its products. The oil and herbs smell amazing. It comes with everything you need to get it started. You basically do the spell kit with the candles, with left over material make a mojo and send them a dressed letter. Of course they probably wont respond right away and thats ok, the trick was getting the letter dressed with powders and herbs on them. A rec honey jar is a great additive to make him more sweet. I would have an AIRR worker set rec candles for you along with a healing candle and you burn your honey jar rec candles mon-wed-fr. Use pslams 42 to reconcile with a person.

Thanks! I already sent a reconciliation letter (followed Dr. E'sblog). I am now focused on what I would stuff a doll baby with and dress candles with, I have started a honey jar.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
I like to dress my candles in oils that tell the story, cat has a phrase for this but I cant remember what she calls it. Like i would dress the candle with come to me oil, rec oil and a love oil that fits as it tells the story. I would double dress it as well by sprinkling lm powders on the candle or rolling it in the powder. LM sells the 9 herbs plus 9 love oils mix that sounds like a great doll filler to me.

This is big local news here. It might be a good idea to purchase your ginseng from Lucky Mojo. If you must harvest your own, make sure you are on private property and have the permission of the property owner!

Hello Halwest,
I don't know that there is a most common product type in use. With Hoodoo people use what they need. If they are doing work to get more money they would get their hands on some Money Drawing (http://www.luckymojo.com/moneydrawing.html) products. If they wanted to do blessing work they would get Blessing (http://www.luckymojo.com/blessing.html) products or maybe 7-11 Holy Type oil. The list goes on. I know that Van Van (http://www.luckymojo.com/vanvan.html) is a very popular product and people use it to empower themselves and turn their luck from bad to good. I would suggest picking an area of your life you would like to work on and then looking into the products that can assist you in that area. Start working with those and you will get an idea of how this all works. Hope this is helpful
Peace~

Hello, Aj59,
Welcome to the forum.
If you get a chance, please introduce yourself 9if you wish) on the introduction thread.
Also, please be careful of where you post. I have moved and merged this post to the appropriate subforum. When you have a question, just go to the search box (the white box in the dark green area of the upper right hand side) and just search the words. In this case: Herbs.
Take a look at the pages here (3 pages) There are ideas for storage. Anything airtight and out of heat and direct sunlight is good for storage.
Wishing you the best

Hi, I have a question on pg 104 of Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic - For Male Vigor...it calls for Ginseng to be placed in Holy Oil, is it the root or powder? I do apologize if this is in the wrong forum.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
mlove,
you would add the root, the powder would make a little bit of a mess mixing them together.

Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
I have read that Sesame seed is very lucky, jar half full of sesame seeds brings luck opens doors ala "open sesame", however I resenly found black sesame in the store, I ve check many hoodoo, wiccan, rootwork sites and books and no one mentions it. Is it the same as normaly sesame, bringer of luck, or is it bringer of negativy like black candles, black tip push pins, black salt, black ash? Has anyone worked with it? If so is it positive or negative?
Thanks
Thanks

I have read that sesame is good luck, road opener ala "open sesame", you should keep a jar half full of sesame seeds. However, I found black sesame seeds at the store. I have looked all over: websites, wicca blogs, rootwork forums, books, and no one seems to mention black sesame seed. My question is are they positive energy like there blond sisters, or negative energy like black push pins, black candles, black salt, black ask, black cats hair, something use to pull negativity?
Please if anyone knows can you post back?

Hello, ChristopherNoSaint ,
In all honesty, I don't know if I would use them without Miss cat saying that it would be alright.
What bothers me is that they appear to have different properties. There's identical genus, species. BUT the black ones have an added letter to their names. I also know that there's a higher content of certain elements and they emit a different aroma.
Therefore, those differences make me uncomfortable.
I'm sorry that I can't give you a more direct answer.

Hi, I am getting ready to place an order for herbs however, have a question. In the book Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic, I want to try a controlling and a faithful spell, but it states to 'control a spouse' or 'make spouse faithful'. Are they just for married people or can I use on boyfriend?
Pg. 184 A silver dime hand to get a job or to gamble - After the 19th day, what am I to do with the packet?

Those spells are used to control and keep people faithful in a relationship not just marriage.
After using it and it being successful ( gambling or getting the job) then you would ritually dispose of it. If its for good work such as this then bury in your yard.

I treat my working herbs like cooking herbs " Give your herbs and spices an annual check-up: recommend that once a year you open each of your containers of cooking spices and herbs. Check for a fresh appearance (even in the softer colored herbs and spices there is an unmistakable freshness in the color when the item is new). Bring the container up to your nose; the aroma should rise up to greet you. If you have to “get to the container” to detect the aroma of a ground spice it’s a sign that the spice is past its prime. Note, however, that many whole spices (peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, etc.) have such a protective cell structure that they don’t reveal their full fragrance until broken or crushed." If you working with fresh herbs, when they go bad you kinda know. I also store different energy herbs in diffent areas, hexing and uncross don't live in same spice drawer, but money and love since most of them cross over are happy campers. Never take your gator claw over a river to the water, don't grind john the C in coffee grinder, unless you want tummy trouble.

Thanks. I'll take a look at them. Do you have to keep them in a certain kind of container?
What about lodestones and magnetic sand?

Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
In a perfect world all my herbs would be fancy jars with proper labels ala Wicca Martha Steward, but when you got your cooking herbs, your magic herbs, and herbs that kill you under the same roof you use what you can. Mason jars are great if you can find them cheep, glass paste sauce jars and pickle jars if not too big. My oils always in glass, plastic gives strange odor and you cant heat it. Basil, rosemary, thyme, cyanne, ginger, black pepper, holy salt, all kinda stay in the plastic/glass jar from the store. Oak Moss and Poke I keep in paper bags, oak moss due to size and Poke cause it can kill you, bay, hyssop, five finger grass, angelica, rue, mint, fenugreek, Irish moss, due to the amounts I use keep in plastic zip lock or large jars, cinnamon keep in the container, clove is always in a jar. John the conquer I have few of them I keep them in purple bag in the sock draw, not sure why but they seem to like it.Luckbewithme876 wrote: Thanks. I'll take a look at them. Magnetic sand and lodestones, I keep together till needed, normally plastic bag, because iron sand gets everywhere, you have to tend to your lodestones they have to cleaned of there sand gently, i like old tooth bush, they need to washed with Jack D or Holts, let dry, then returned to there sand, I shake it so it covers them again, try avoid recycling lodestones give them proper burial post use.

Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
Luckbewithme876,
There is site a LM devoted to lodestones http://www.luckymojo.com/lodestone.html I personally keep them in there plastic bag with iron sand, due the fact sand gets everywhere, unless cleaning, or using, and I never recycle they get proper burial or tossed into the river.
Container wise I wish I could have glass containers with proper labels ala Wicca Martha Steward, but that's costly, and depending on use not good idea. I use mason jars, old pasta sauce jar, pickle jars, and beer bottles for witch bottles. Supermarket herbs: basil, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, cyanne, pepper, ect I normally keep in container came in. I use a lot of hyssop, rue, mint, bay, angelica, Irish moss, five finger, so kept in plastic bags. Poke, Oak Moss, Blackberry leaf, kept in paper bags, Poke cause its toxic, Oak moss due to size, need to keep dry, and in one piece, Blackberry because they got thorns. John the Conquer kept in purple bag in the sock draw, it like it there. Grains of Paradise i keep out of the kitchen so it not used a ordinary pepper, it hangs out with fenugreek, sassafras, cloves, and whole nutmeg in jars. All my oils in glass jars because plastic makes odd odor, and does not heat well. Graveyard dirt I get the day I use it, I do not store it in the house, because either the house protection will zap it or i just brought evil home, its normally in ziplock as it was easier to steal that way. Pine needle i get fresh, cause I am in the south.

Hi Luckbewithme876,
With regards to minerals, they stay good pretty much indefinitely as long as they are stored in a dry place.
This book in our series on practical folklore may be of help to you.
"This Amazing Book - Hoodoo Herb and Root Medicine" is a restored, revised, and edited presentation of a little-known classic of medical herbology, first published in 1947 by the Sunrae Products Company of Ogema, Wisconsin. In this new edition, catherine yronwode teaches you the "other" side of magical rootwork — the down-home, historical, and practical medical side of the work. With new added illustrations, and pages of practical recipes for home-made medicines, this book is designed as a page-by-page cross-reference to the author's previous best-seller, Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic. Use these two books in tandem to get the best of two worlds from Nature's herbs, roots, barks, flowers, and seeds.

Yes Sant430 - you're correct.
And thanks for the lamp idea - and if it were not for the small army of cats patrolling the house, I'd give that a try.... unfortunately, I'm trying to keep my name out of the newspapers...lol.
Thanks !

is this why my rose got moldy TWICE with two different roses? And I thought it was a spiritual thing! I have a new one going now, I have had it open for over a week and I have changed its water twice (As thats what my local shop owner told me was the mold solution) - but now should I dump the water and let it dry out completely to all brown again? Or just the root part itself needs to be dry?
Thanks for any info!

Re: How to Use Lucky Mojo Magical Herbs, Roots, Seeds, Flowers Questions and Answers
Hi AsherDorian,
Yes, they are notorious for getting moldy. As a desert plan they usually just have one brief heavy rainfall where they open up and then close back up, so sitting in water isn't ideal for how they were made. I live in a fairly dry climate in the Rocky Mountains and the water will evaporate in about a week, which seems to be about right. I let it curl back up into a ball at the end of the week and let it sit dormant for another week. I know a worker who keeps two going in rotation, so as one is drying, the other is opening up.
I've heard of folks do various things to the water - a copper penny, a bit of bleach, those floral packets from the florist, etc. I can't vouch for any of them, but it seems best to let the plant have the condition it was designed for which is a heavy saturation of water to open up and then allowing it to then dry up completely.

Yes, they are notorious for getting moldy. Hi I have a question, can powder be substituted for hard to find herbs.
for example, if I cannot obtain a particular herb like lovage or John the conqueror or any herb,
but the powder is available, can it be substituted for dressing candles and doing candle spells?

Hi AlRam,
For dressing candles or using as incense, the powder can be used. If you're making a mojo hand, then you probably want the herb whole or sifted and cut. The issue with many powders is that they're easily adulterated so do make sure you're actually getting the right herb. For most herbs used in conjure however (and herbs like lovage and John the Conqueror specifically), you can get them via Lucky Mojo where they're quite inexpensive. You'll find the herbs in their on-line store here: http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatherbs.html

It's fantastic to improve flavor with various herbs: healthy and tasty.

I would suggest that you just take a cheese grater and grate the root into a bowl and save the excess for a later use.
