Tonka Bean Questions and Answers

Hello,

I have some questions on the uses of tonka beans in hoodoo. In cat's book they are described as love-wishing and love herb. I have read a couple of hoodoo spells elsewhere that use them as a money and success herb. Is there any long tradition on using them for money-success?

Tonka Beans are lucky -- but i was taught to use them for love-luck, because Mojo Beans are used for money-luck and because Tonka Beans smell a lot like Vanilla, which is a famous love-drawing scent.

I completely understand now! I usually have a definitive feeling for the magical powers within certain herbs but Tonka beans have always left me on the threshold. Thanks for the knowledge!

I saw this recipe and HAD to forward it along to the Hoodoo Heads...

Strange that a toxic bean is being used, but she puts forward a decent explanation for it. I probably wouldn't eat the whole thing...

This looks awesome. Throw in some cinnamon, chocolate, and for the ladies a little dash of your menstrual blood and you would have a very nicely loaded Love Me ice cream!
I have cooked with tonka beans myself. As she points out, in large quantities they can thin your blood and so if you are a hemophiliac or on blood thinners you should probably stay away, but in very small quantities (the kind used for cooking) most folks should be fine.

take care,
Bri

The magical qualities of this product are described in this book, with folkloric hoodoo spells for use in practical conjure,

In my area, i live in asia, the indonesians has a very famous recipe called tonka ali. 'ali' is a common male name. Tonka ali is like an aphrodisiac and its sold where i live in the streets.

but I thought it was suppose to be 'Tongkat Ali' rather than tonka ali..and this herb you mentioned is a type of root meant to maintain the male's vitality and to help women promote their health condition, though not as effective as it does towards males. Thank you for letting me know how a Tonka Bean would actually smell like, Cat. Perhaps I will personally get one myself some of these days too. should make me smell nice, too, correct?

If Tongkat Ali is a root, then it is not the same thing as tonka beans which is the seed of a plant.

Hello and good tidings!

Is it true that if tonka beans are stored/wrapped in the same material (i.e. mojo bag) unevenly that they lose their "luck" properties?

I recently purchased some tonka beans last weekend and decided to do some more thorough research on them. My six tonka beans were packaged all together (purchased two sets of three, all six beans were wrapped in one bag). After reading material regarding tonka beans, I immediately separated the beans into two pairs of three. I haven't made any wishes yet nor are they charged with my aura. Did I divert a crisis-- I suppose my real question is, are the tonka beans still usable for wishes, rootwork and will their luster still be intact?

Thank you kindly!

Hello, Pink Moon,
I never heard of this.
This is how Lucky Mojo sells them: www.herb-magic.com/tonka-bean.html
It sounds to me like you have purchased them elsewhere and we really don't give advice for products other than Lucky Mojo's products.
Take care

ahh, thank you Miss Aida

well, the bad thing is I ordered some(unfortunately from elsewhere) without doing research on tonka beans. I had no idea you were supposed to throw them into running water like Job's tears so I'm not sure what I can do with the beans now .  I really wanted to use them for wishes.

Hello, ttmarie,

Then hold onto them until you are sure that you will be near running water. Then, start your spell.

There's no rule that you have to start it immediately

Take care

When wearing the tonka beans in your pocket for 7 days, do they need to be in a mojo bag, or should they be in your pocket free?

Hi all,
So I did the work for the Tonka Beans from Cat's book where you wish upon an odd number of beans and throw them in running water etc.
I was wondering, does the love wish come true with in the 7 days or after the 7 days have passed after you throw them in running water? and do they happen all together or there will be a sign then movement then whatever?

thanks!

Hello, ma853 ,

That is all up to Spirit

Nothing is written in stone that in exactly so many days "this or that" will happen.

So, the answer is that it's different for everybody

I am sorry that I couldn't give you a better answer

Wishing you success with this spell

O.M.G.! I ordered Tonka Beans mainly out of curiosity... They smell exactly like freshly dried sweetgrass to me! I left one I'd been examining (and sniffing) out on the table and when I passed through the room later, it stopped me in my tracks... The entire room smelled HEAVENLY! One bean!

I couldn't imagine tossing them in water or tossing them anywhere, not unless I had a suitcase of them laying around. Are they viable? Is it possible that tossing them in water might grow a plant and create an army of these beans down the bayou? (Might change my mind about using them as a wishing bean-lol)

This is my newest "favorite thing" on the entire flipping planet... How long will they remain fragrant? I'm thinking it definitely needs to go in a mojo with the lovely scent it's got... I'm completely blown away by these cute (and fragrant) little beans. I've been pleasantly surprised when each order arrives again and again, but this takes the cake... completely unexpected! I've fallen in love with a bean. Lawdy, help me...

Quick (and possibly silly) question about carrying the tonka beans in your pocket for the seven days: if I were to wear leggings during that period and don't have pockets to transfer the beans to, will carrying the beans in my bra have the same effect? I assume any form of carrying them on you during those 7 days will be okay, but I figured I would ask. If it does make a difference, I'll just make sure everything I wear for the next 7 days has pockets ;) Thanks in advance!

Hello Lelly10,

I'm a traditionalist, I would choose clothes with pockets. If your bra is like mine, it's already home to a mojo.

Good luck!
