Hey everyone!
I plan on buying Althaea from Lucky Mojo for use on my altar as an aid to attract helpful spirits to my workings. Should I buy the leaves or the roots for this purpose? Can you use either or?
Thanks,
Marcoa

Thanks for the reply. I'm still confused as to which part of the plant I should use to place in the offering bowl. Im assuming its a mix of the two?

Your assumption is correct according to the website. "ALTHAEA LEAVES and ALTHAEA ROOTS are burned with resin incenses like Frankincense Myrrh Copal or Benzoin to bring forth protective and benevolent spirits ALTHAEA in a jar next to a small bowl of water where you burn your candles or perform your spells, and helpful spirits will be drawn to you"

Hello everyone. My question is concerning ALTHAEA. On the LM site it mentions you can "Keep ALTHAEA in a jar next to a small bowl of water where you burn your candles or perform your spells, and helpful spirits will be drawn to you." I do keep a busy altar in my home where my candles & spellwork go on and I would love to welcome more helpful spirits and my question is: should the jar of ALTHAEA be open or closed? Thanks.

Friends-
Lately, I have been working with the spirits of the dead and specifically with my ancestors.
I think it's now time to think seriously about adding herbs and roots, like
Marsh Mallow root (Althaea), to my ancestral altar. Up to this point, my approach has been really simple - glass of water, roses, a few personal concerns from my departed relatives, and incense.
So my question: would Marsh Mallow root be a good root to use at first or should I look into some Mugwort (for increased psychic contact) and / or Wormwood?

I am a fan of Acacia and Althaea. They work wonderfully for me. You can burn them as incense as well.

I personally like Mugwort and Althaea. I keep them mixed in a pretty glass bottle on the altar and have seen very good results since doing this.

I have just purchased some althaea leaf, and following the suggestion in "Herb Magic", I have placed it in a jar on my altar next to a small vase of water, to attract friendly spirits. This may be a dumb question, but my vase has a row of hearts around it, and I am wondering if I am sending the wrong message. I'm happily married and I'm not looking for love, just for the help of friendly spirits.

Spirits need love too

. Your intent is what drives the work, you are calling upon the power of Althaea to draw in spirits, not love, so you shouldn't have an issue. If it makes you uncomfortable simply change the vase.

Actually, I like the vase a lot. I'm new to this, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't making a request of the spirits without knowing it, and suddenly I'd get romantic opportunities I wasn't looking for. It sounds like I'm OK with things as they are.

Can Althaea root also be used for healing work or it is only the leaves? (I checked out the link here
http://www.herb-magic.com/althaea-root.html, but I just wanted to clarify!)
Also, if anyone would care to share experiences using Althaea in this way, I would love to hear about them.
Thanks in advance,
RA

Thanks for the links, Miss Tammie Lee. No worries on the warning- physical healing is not the objective, rather it's for emotional healing work. I'm familiar with LM's Healing products and I've actually pored over the other links before, as well

I was really just wondering if there is any info out there specifically related to the working with the roots vs the leaves in terms of purpose. I am using the root for connection with helpful spirits, but wanted to know if it could also be used in place of the leaves for the type of healing work I mentioned.
Thanks for looking for the thread- maybe the answer will be somewhere in there!
Blessings,
RA

Thank you for your open reply! Ill share with you and now the rest of the world that I ordered both. You see, this is both for health and benevolent Spirits.
If you click on the links that are "green" they are further defined. There are many herbs and roots to help with health. Go through the A-B-C of here:

Thank you Miss Cat and Lucky Mojo!

I appreciate your trying to answer

I'm definitely familiar with that page, as well, as I've used it to choose and order herbs (though I don't have a lot of posts, I've been pretty studious about researching LM resources!) Perhaps I should have been more direct! I have Althaea
root on hand right now, and wanted to know if it would be suitable until I get the leaves (which I know will do the trick). I'm thinking it's best to just wait, as there's no specific mention on LM that the root in particular is used for soothing and emotional healing.

Just as an addendum: I could be completely missing the big picture here, being that they are both parts of the same plant- but, I have noticed that with some herbs, different parts sometimes don't carry the same descriptions (e.g. whole violet leaf is associated in its description with bringing back a lost love, while cut and sifted violet leaf is not). If I'm splitting hairs, I'm happy to be corrected! I just would never want to assume, as I know there are reasons behind everything in the hoodoo tradition.
Blessings,
RA

rosyaltar:
Althea Leaves: To attract benevolent spirits to the home, to increase psychic ability, to heal and soothe.
Althea Root: To attract benevolent spirits to the home, to find treasure through psychic gifts.
I use both, but have fallen much more in love with the root due to the many times I have worked with her.

Today I found a wolf spider in the vase of water beside my jar of althaea, large and alive and very active. It couldn't climb out because of the curve of the sides of the vase. I put it and the water from the vase out in my back yard.
Is this any kind of sign? I think I read somewhere on the forum that spiders are considered good luck. I didn't think this one was scary or creepy or anything, I'm just wondering if I need to do anything about it (cleansing or an offering, for example?) I've been asking the spirits lately for a sign of whether they are pleased or not with my activities for them. My altar is in my basement, in an old root cellar, so finding a spider isn't that weird an event, although finding it floating in the vase was unusual.

I was researching althea botanically and ran across the fact that an extract of the roots is sometimes used to flavor halva. My first thought was "oooh I bet my Ashkenazi ancestors would loooove that." Guess, I'm gonna be making some halva when I put up my ancestral altar...

Hello!
I have gathered all my herbs for my honey jar but today I realized I need Balm of gilead and did not order any. So since I don“t want to delay (I live in Europe and it takes a long time for the herbs to arrive) or opening it later and putting Balm of Gilead in, I was wondering if Althea would be appropriate for healing past wounds and fears of my ex partner. Could you please tell me what you think about it? Or if there is something else instead that I can add? Thank you!

Hi Miss Tammie Lee! Yes, I read the links and got the answear!

My other herbs are mainly love herbs like damiana, star anise, roses, so I wanted to make sure that I can use Althea. I was pretty disappointed for not finding Balm of gilead because I am trying on a reconcilliation with a lots of past wounds and fear to overcome them. Please let me know any suggestions you have! Thank you!!

Just Hit Me!!!
I have an Althea(purple/lavender) planted right along my walkway right up to my front door

Hello, Greeneyes,
Do I have to hit you! LOL
Make sure the leaves are dried properly.
Nevertheless, I personally buy things of this nature through Lucky Mojo. I know exactly what I'm getting, no doubts about species, etc.
And no worries about proper drying while also getting special blessings on them from professional root workers.
But, that's just me...
Take Care
