Hi! I suck at subject lines!

I am so happy that I stumbled upon this website weeks ago. I knew absolutely nothing about hoodoo but I think I have now read every page of Cat's online book and have been lurking the forums quite a bit. Normally I don't interact on forums but I have become so interested in hoodoo that I thought this would be a community I would love to join. I have been interested in folk magic and various religions and have researched many ways. Much was just out of curiosity and liking to learn and increase my knowledge (went to school for anthropology - studying culture is fun!) but I was also searching for something that felt right to me. Prior to hoodoo I never really felt connected to anything that I was doing, like something was missing. I was finding the cultural appropriation pretty offensive and it made me feel off and phony. While I believe that all religions are basically going to the same source regardless of what it's called based on where you happened to be born in the world, I just didn't feel right calling up gods and spirits or chopping up/picking and choosing pieces of various rituals from multiple religions without acknowledging the actual source of beliefs - as if my practice was a soup of every exotic belief system that sounded cool and magical. I'm not putting down any religion, because I know a lovely person who has a lot of success in that method, but it felt that way to ME. I ended up doing things my own style based on what felt right and when I discovered Lucky Mojo and started researching, I realized that what I had been doing was VERY close to hoodoo. After obsessing over everything and reading all I could find, I tried out a couple of spells the correct hoodoo way and it just clicked. I'm impressed how Cat spent so much time and energy to truly research and learn the way hoodoo is properly practiced and that she sticks to her guns in keeping it real and pure. I hope to take her course at some point!
