...but I couldn't get through; I was on the phone bridge but nothing
happened when I pressed 6 to unmute my phone.
Anyhow, this question occurred to me when Dr. Kioni mentioned
mentalhelp.net: does anyone know of websites with comprehensive lists
of services *other* than mental health - housing assistance, homeless
shelters, food banks, debt counseling and the like?
I'll share the little I know: If someone comes to you for help finding
work, ask if they are a veteran. If so, the Veterans' Administration
will pay for them to attend trade school. I found that out quite by
accident when a friend told me about the progress of some work I did
for her.

The Detroit Public Library mantains a searchable database for the
Detroit area. Here is their overview page:
http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/tip/database.htm
I don't know of a national resource, but you could check with your
local library and maybe they keep a similar database.

Hi Michaele!
It's easy to find a list of "community services" for the area. If
you contact your local county Human Services office, they'll most
likely have a directory of services that you can refer a client to
if they're in need. I know that if you contact the In-Home Support
Services department here in Sonoma County, you'll get a large (free)
directory of senior services--and, I think, some of them can be used
for families.
