Hi everyone,
I am so excited to have found these forums and Lucky Mojo Co. I happened upon this site by chance (or maybe fate) while doing some more research into hoodoo and conjure. This is an area of working that I have been very interested in for a long time but had been nervous about dipping into because of my culture. Imagine my surprise that after reading and soaking up the information on this website and other books I found that my family has been doing some of these practices and sayings as far back as I can remember (paternal grandmother). I am pretty much a culture mutt - Scotts/Irish, Native American (Cherokee), Hungarian and a sprinkle of Dutch according to my mother. I have always held deep respect for African American folklore, history, and culture. The town I was raised in was pretty segregated (culturally), there may have been one African American person in my graduating class in high school. So growing up I didn't get a chance to learn much about A.A. people until college. Thankfully as I got older I noticed my hometown become way less segregated and now there are many beautiful cultures that turn into a melting pot.
I moved to Louisville around 14 years ago and things here are much more culturally diverse and we have many different areas of town like most major cities do that celebrate specific areas where people have immigrated and settled down. I am a nursing student and I will finally graduate in about 9 months. I love taking care of people and I hope to be a very compassionate nurse. I've been witchin' my way through the world for around 10 years but I was raised Southern Baptist and for the last year or so I've been trying to find a way to mix the two, the answer to me is hoodoo. Church, family, and Sunday service (and the resulting amazing fried chicken dinner afterwards) has always been a huge part of my life. I turned my back on it all after my father and grandmother died. That's something else that I love about African American folk magic - the regard and honor for ancestors. I've been working on setting up an ancestor altar to my deceased relatives, I don't really know much about my family tree apart from immediate family and what kind of blood we have.
I placed a fairly large order for some fertility workings I have planned to do soon. I'm already planning future orders for things that need attention. My next big order will be for my mother who has a form of Lupus that really wreaks havoc on her skin. She gets these big discoid lesions and most of the time her skin feels like it burns. I have some stuff coming to me which will help me create a healing salve for her to use topically but I am reading up on and planning a working that will work for her healing.
Anyway I have blabbed so much, sorry for the novel. Thank you Miss Cat and everyone here who has so freely shared their knowledge about hoodoo and conjure and the amazing products in the LM shop.
