Hi all,
My name is Angel. When I was in high school, growing up in the Bay Area in CA, my two favorite websites were Encyclopedia Mythica and The Lucky Mojo Curio Company. I was obsessed with folklore and mythology as well as folk magic and the Lucky Mojo site was a beacon of light for me. It was so exciting to me that something like this existed so close to where I grew up! My mom's family is from the South, so I have always been interested in southern folklore and folk magic. I have been wanting to study it for a long time, but something compelled me to wait--as though I wasn't "ready" yet. In the mean time, for many years I have been studying folk magic, traditional healing and herbalism. Now, for whatever reason, I feel like this healing tradition is calling me. I feel like it is the right time in my life to study it. I feel like I can honor it and approach it with the respect it deserves, without feeling like I am participating in cultural appropriation of some kind (which was always a concern of mine).
In any case, it is a pleasure to meet all of you.
