Hi there, I am as new as a 2 week baby and my findings have been quite interesting. I have only done a few petitions and amazingly a few of them have come to pass. Havent really delved in too much yet, just stuck with petitions.
Im very interested in Hoodoo and want to practise it.
I feel like im stepping on careful gound and have a question.
The fact that time goes on and things change, i wonder that if you do a type of spell/divination, you are opening up a portal, so ive heard amongst my family and others that certain prayers and protocols that were done when are ancestors (the elders and so on) to protect ourselves and not allow anything to enter through whatever gateway/portal (or whatever else we do when casting these spells).
I want to practise hoodoo and learn about it more but can someone advise me on this and more because i can understand the concept behind it and wouldnt want to leave myself open to something wrong.
Then again ive read uite a few blgs on here and testimonies on ali webiste and aint read noone saying theyve had a bad experience as a result of casting a spell.
Can anybody comment on this.
Having said that, id love to do the course at some point and learn more.
Thanks for responding in advance.....

Ifatoba,
I have never heard of opening a portal will open and spirits enter to harm you. I know that some people mix hoodoo with voodoo which they are completely different. Hoodoo is African American conjure practiced in urban areas and the south, many who practice are christians and attend church regularly, read their Bible and make prayers. I will post a online free book Cat wrote and addresses some of these issues and topics you are asking. Sometimes websites, blogs , family and friends mean well but are ill-informed to the truth of the work and what it actually is and is not.
Now in hoodoo we do believe in spirits just as we do in the Bible, ancestors are prayed to, petitioned for help to aid in work, the herbs and curios have a spirit to them, the work takes on spirt, a mojo is a prayer in a bag, it is named and considered alive with a spirt. But not in the spirt sense you are speaking of.

Re: Greetings Y'all. Im As New As They Get
Welcome, Ifatoba!
j82 covered it well, but the idea of a portal as you're discussing isn't really a concept in Hoodoo. There is a lot of protection work you can do, as well as cleansing, for working with spirits and doing graveyard work, which might be of help and interest to you. Check into the "Fiery Wall of Protection" threads here for an idea of what protection in Hoodoo is like, and how it works.
Great to see you here, and good luck with your studies!
