The AIRR Tech Team lit our lanterns in honour of Shang Yuan Jie, the Chinese Lantern Festival which marks the closure of the two weeks of Waxing Moon after the Spring Festival at the Lunar New Year. This traditional Taoist holiday is celebrated with massed displays of decorative lanterns in honour of the Full Moon and the consumption of delicious round dumplings in soup. It is also the birthday of Tian Guan, the Heavenly Official who bestows blessings and prosperity, and it takes place just as the Azaleas begin to come into bloom! Catherine Yronwode wrote the page, with proofreading by Papa Newt and Nagasiva Yronwode. Papa Newt did site-wide linking, Catherine sourced the photographs by Doa55 and Dashu83, and Nagasiva created this graphic announcement. Check out our illuminated new page on The Chinese Lantern Festival -- and follow us through the year as we debut each new AIRR page on the major Taoist festivals in turn, during this auspicious Year of the Dragon!)
