AIRR Tech Team Report 6/18/2024 Juneteenth!

Image

The AIRR Tech Team dug deep into American history and held a virtual picnic to celebrate a new web page on Juneteenth, the June 19th secular holiday also known as Juneteenth National Independence Day. After more than 150 years of Juneteenth gatherings, this grassroots African-American commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States was finally recognized as a federal holiday in 2021. Catherine Yronwode wrote the page, with proofreading and site-wide linking by Papa Newt and Nagasiva Yronwode. Catherine sourced the photographs from Billy Weiss and unknown photographers. Nagasiva created this graphic announcement. Check out our freedom-loving page on Juneteenth!

The Juneteenth page is here:

We shall now move to social media, to share the Juneteenth page at the AIRR page on Facebook, here:

I had a lot of fun researching and writing this page. It took me about seven hours from start to finish. Thanks to Papa Newt and my husband Nagasiva for all the site-wide links and proofreading.

I hope you are enjoying our new AIRR category of Secular Holidays -- we started with Leap Year Day on February 29th this year, and will continue on for the next 12 months. We are also still working on the calendars of Pagan Holidays and Taoist Seasonal Festivals. My goal is to eventually present the religious, magical, and secular festivals of many cultures -- while still keeping the focus at AIRR on African-American hoodoo, of course.
