I was absolutely thrilled when I read Conjureman Ali's announcement of the publication of his most recent title - Santisima Muerte: How to Call on and Work with Holy Death. There is finally an English title that I can confidently recommend to those curious about devotion to Our Lady and an essential guide for the new devotee.
The treatise begins by examining the history and legends surrounding Santisima Muerte, respectfully showing her roots to be thoroughly Mexican and Catholic. There is enough here to satisfy the interest of the academic and promote thoughtful discussion among her devotees. Contemporary controversies are also touched on and brought into a clearer perspective.
From there an explanation of the symbols of her devotion are described and a wonderful method for setting up an altar to Santisima Muerte is given. Traditional and fundamental aspects of working with her, such as the amparo and the tributa, are explained. That section alone is easily worth the price of the book.
From there, a number of trabajos are given for diverse situations. The famous, or perhaps infamous, novena is detailed as well as an amarre or love-binding. For those of you that love to make your own oils there is a great recipe included, the ingredients for which can be purchased through the Lucky Mojo Curio Company. There is really something for everyone in this book.
Many thanks go to ConjureMan Ali for an outstanding guide to working with Santisima Muerte. This great book, which reveals his deep knowledge of and respect for Our Lady, will quickly become an important reference for the long-time devotee as well as the newcomer.
The above book may be purchased online from Lucky Mojo, under the Occult Books and Pamphlets section.
