The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
I know you offer a full course for rootworkers in book form, but I would love to have topic specific class workbooks from the annual Missionary Independent Spiritual Church workshops, each topic being a specific course.

I was wondering if this folder will include the workshops for this years workshops too? If not, can I make a special request to get the workshops for 2012 in them, and how much will it be?

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
If you order a set of workshop flyers AFTER the workshops for this year, you will get this year's flyers.
The folders get thicker -- and the price goes up accordingly -- every year.
We started in 2008 with an $8.00 workshop folder containing 24 pages. In 2009 the page count increased and the price went to $9.00 for 36 pages. In 2010, after another page-count increase, the price was $10.00 for 48 pages. After additional pages were again added the next year, the price for the 2011 edition was $11.00 for 52 pages. On May 7th, 2012 we will have more pages to bind in and the cost will be $12.00 for 64 pages.
In 2013, we will go to printed book format with uniform point size and layouts on all pages, because after a certain page count, it's cheaper to print books and have them machine-bound than it is to hand-collate and hand-assemble individual flyer pages into a folder.

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
Is there anyway to just purchase the 2012 workshop flyers? I had ordered the folder set of files in May and found out just after that if I had waited a little while I could have also gotten the 2012 flyers included. I would really like to have a copy of the 2012 to add to my study materials. If there is no way to purchase them, are the flyers available in person if one visited the shop?

I just noticed this, and on Jan 23rd of this year I ordered the flyer booklet but I never received any of the workshop flyers, just the Lucky Mojo shop flyers. Did this change after that or did I get an old book?

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
Odessa -- We have all the latest additions at the shop. Just ask. There willbe a slight charge.
=========
katrink -- No, it has not changed -- each year we add more contents and raise the price, but it sounds like you got a defective binger -- that is, someone collated it wrongly and stopped halfway through. No one else has complained of this, so it must have been a fluke of hand-assembling -- but call the shop. We can send you a replacement if your copy was defective.
=========
For 2013 we are planning something different -- a real paperback book containing all the old hand-outs, plus this year's as well. The title of the new book will ne "The Black Folder," of course.

BOO-GRI-BKFO
The Black Folder:
Personal Communications on the Mastery of Hoodoo
edited by cat yronwode
136 Pages, $12.00
(Missionary Independent Spiritual Church)
From 2002 through 2013, the Lucky Mojo Curio Company offered an assortment of
informational "shop flyers" to all in-store, and mail-order customers, as well
as to in-person students in catherine yronwode's classes and apprenticeships.
These "shop flyers" featured basic information about African American hoodoo
drawn from catherine's book "Hoodoo in Theory and Practice." Meanwhile, from
2008 through 2013, at the Missionary Independent Spiritual Church annual Hoodoo
Heritage Workshops, attendees who came to receive hands-on training in the
practice of conjure and other forms of world folk-magic received hand-out flyers
describing the spells, recipes, and methods of practice being taught by
catherine and a stellar line-up of her colleagues and those who had trained
under her.
Every year, all of the current and previous three-hole-punched
information sheets -- the Lucky Mojo Shop Flyers and the Hoodoo Heritage
Festival Workshop Hand-Outs -- were collected together into a black
school-report cover, which we called "The Black Folder," and were sold to
attendees and by mail order to those who could not attend in person.
As the years went on, the content of The Black Folder grew and grew and grew,
until there were so many pages that they could no longer easily fit into a
single report cover ... and so we put together the complete set of all of the
past Missionary Independent Spiritual Church Hoodoo Heritage Workshop flyers,
plus a complete set of all of the Lucky Mojo Curio Company shop flyers into a
136 page professionally printed BOOK. The name of the book is "The Black Folder"
-- but don't let the name (or the cover) fool you -- it's a regular 8 1/2" x 11"
trade paperback book, like nothing else available anywhere.
When you order "The Black Folder: Personal Communications on the Mastery of Hoodoo" here's what you will get:

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
That is such a great, and classic, cover. Like the real black binder! I have almost all of these, but I will still be getting the book to add to my library. It will be great to see them all in one place. Wonderful to see three new books coming out this year. Very nice, indeed.

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
I received ''The Black Folder'' in my last order and have been eating through it with joy! This is a MUST for every student of not only hoodoo, but other walks of magic as well. The information crosses cultural boundaries, is vast and from an outstanding collection of different workers. If you don't have it already - I can't recommend it enough: add one to your cart directly via the link in Miss Cat's post above!

Thank you, Aura!
A kind review at amazon would also be much appreciated. Even a few words, such as you wrote here, would go a long way to boost sales to the larger magical world outside our own little community.

Will the Black Folder ever be available in pdf format? Maybe an instant down load?

It's been reviewed on Amazon along with the Hoodoo Jukebox and the Honey Jar and Sweet Magic book by Deacon Millett as of last week Miss Cat! Couldn't keep that kind of a treasure trove to myself, gotta spread that kind of wealth

No. Our books are printed on paper. The cost is very reasonable at 136 pages for $12.00 and would hardly merit making available as an ebook.

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
I don't really buy spell books because frankly most of them are crap. But I want to take the correspondence course so I've been buying the required materials. So far I have the hoodoo herb book and the black folder.
I've got to say I love them both. I was skimming through the black folder, and I really liked the section on candle divination.
I think it's a really unique practice. I rarely use free standing candles but the glass encased candle information seems to be really practical for me. I'm trying to memorize the correspondences.
Tomorrow I'm going to be buying the candle book required for the correspondence class.
I haven't signed up for the class, but I figured having the required supplies (books and I think a cd set) in advance to signing up will make the cost burden easier than buying it all at once.
I know this isn't really a question post, but I just right I should say how impressed with the books so far.

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
I want to rally back the return of the yearly Black Folder. I have requested a flyer from this year's festival in my last two orders and sadly did not receive one either time. So now I am willing to pay for the entire set. I figure there has to be at least 50 people who were not able to make it to the workshops this year and who would love to order the set of flyers. So please show your interest too in the comeback of the yearly Black Folder. I mean go back and read the descriptions, http://missionaryindependent.org/workshops.html .
If you request it, they will come. They will most definitely come.

I'm sorry you didn't receive the requested flyers. There is a reasonable explanation which is they didn't have anymore copies available at the time your order was shipped. Please check in periodically when placing an order to see if they are available at that time. I know because I called to check about not receiving them as well. As to "the mini Black Folder 2014", I believe we all are waiting on The Black Folder Part 2. So stay tuned as many new things are on it's way to us from LM this too shall come to pass

Ah, Satinice! -- i wish that were so -- but we DO have copies of ALL of those flyers and the pullers are supposed to put one in each order. So, please, angelel, send an email to Leslie at order@luckymojo.com and ask her to rectify the error.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Actually, Sherry Lynn, we are not going to press with the third printing of The Black Folder! What folks are calling "The B;ack Folder Part 2" is actually on track to be called The Red Folder and we expect to have enough material accumulated for it in ... 2019.

Oh wow! (I've misplaced my copy, was wondering when it would be reprinted this summer before I reordered: but don't think I want to wait til 2019! But it will be exciting to see the RED folder!). Congrats!! So many wonderful publications are being released!
Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
I know I can't PM Miss Cat, so the only other place I can think of is here...I BELIEVE that a particular spell that I trimmed out of one of Miss Cat's books (I needed to minimize as I work privately out of my car so I trimmed out from all the books the *most* important spells for myself...now in doing so there is a break up spell using a break up/divorce candle and it tells you exactly what to do, until I realized reading it as I was organizing my spell files by subject...that I cut out the breakup PRAYER that looks like was immediately AFTER the paragraph explaining how to set it up...I was wondering (I'm thinking it was from this book...but not 100%) if someone could PM me the breakup prayer I'm to say every time I light the divorce candle anointed with break up oil. I've got my candle in the mail so a bit of time to find out the prayer but just very embarrassing...

GOODNESS I DIDN'T THINK OF THAT. Thank you! At least I feel like I have some conclusion for now and can move on. My candle is still in transit from the shop so I have some time to think it through.

Is there any way to order all the flyers from the years not in the black folder book? I have the book and love it, but I'm always wanting more info and material to add to my library.

Good Morning,
I am in the process of ordering 'The Black Folder Book'
I would like to know what other products I should purchase that I can use with the book. It's easier and more secretive if I do a bulk order.
Thanks

First, if your user/screenname M_beth is your actual name, it may be easy for someone to find out who you are and what your doing. So if secrecy is important I would suggest changing your username and we will do our best to go back and change replying posts to you to your new username. Since you're fairly new this shouldn't be a big issue.
As for the Black Folder, there is so many different things in this book, without knowing what you plan to work, its hard to help you determine what else to suggest you order. If you check the Lucky Mojo page on this book here: http://www.luckymojo.com/blackfolder.html there is a table of contents that will show you the subjects written about. If you let us know what your immediate interests are from here we can suggest appropriate products.

Hi, m_beth13 --
Books are a really good place to start, and we have basically four kinds of books that we publish -- those that are filled with
* spells for specific conditions (for example, "Cash Box Conjure" for money spells and "Deliverance!" for uncrossing and clearing spells, Hoodoo Return and Reconciliation Spells for restoration of love),
* spells that utilize a certain form of working (for example, The Art of Hoodoo Candle Magic to work with candles and lamps, Hoodoo Spiritual Baths for baths and floor washes, Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic for working with botanical and mineral ingredients,
* ways to foretell the future (for example, Throwing the Bones to learn osteomancy and Lithomancy for reading stones and coins),
* spells that derive from a specific regional culture (for example North Asian Magic and Trolldom),
* compilations that contain all four of the above (for example, The Black Folder).
If you are interested in knowing the most popular and general-purpose spiritual supplies -- those would be Chinese Wash, Money Drawing Oil, Love Me Oil, Uncrossing Bath Crystals, 13 Herb Bath, and Peace Water.
Good luck to you!

Thank you, shimmie -- i think the two books, the Black Folder and the Red Folder, give a great representation of the quality of the rootworkers in AIRR and Hoodoo Psychics, and of the depth of instruction provided by the Hoodoo Heritage programs from 2008 - 20019. It was my privilege to serve as editor and lead typesetter for these compilations.

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
The Black Folder, first published in 2013, is so popular that it is now in its FIFTH printing. Thank you, everyone, for buying and supporting this memento of the Hoodoo Heritage Festival workshops.
Remember also that there is a second Festival book, The Red Folder, first published in 2019, that contains even more workshop notes ...
And that we are currently working toward a third compilation to be called the Blue Folder.
BOO-GRI-BKFO
The Black Folder: Personal Communications on the Mastery of Hoodoo edited by catherine yronwode
$15.00

* Conjure Spells for Love, Money, Protection, and Luck
* Cursing and Reversing Tricks with Dolls and Mirror Spells.
* The Secrets of Kitchen Witchery and Grocery Store Magic
* Candle and OIl Lamp Magic in the Hoodoo Tradition
* How to Make Your Own Mojo Hands, Doll-Babies, and Packet Amulets
* Divination and Seership with Bones, Tea Leaves, and Candle Wax
Remember also that there is a second Festival book, The Red Folder, first published in 2019, that contains even more workshop notes ...
And that we are currently working toward a third compilation to be called the Blue Folder.

Re: The Black Folder Book Edited by Cat Yronwode Questions and Answers
It's Facebook Fridays! for August 20, 2021, and we are giving away a magnificent prize -- a truly remarkable collection of metaphysical and magical books!
The Lucky Mojo Curio Company is holding a random drawing to receive 1 outstanding prize which we call the "Cat Yronwode Editor Special." Included in your box will be eight books on folk magic and divination -- one copy each of:
* "The Black Folder" by various authors, edited by Catherine Yronwode; A complete set of all of the flyers distributed through the Missionary Independent Spiritual Church Workshops, PLUS copies of all of the Lucky Mojo Curio Company's free spell flyers, conveniently collected into one oversize paperback book (8 1/2" x 11") printed to look like an old fashioned black report cover;
* "The Red Folder" by various authors, edited by Catherine Yronwode; This book contains hundreds of pages of instruction in the arts of divination and conjure;
* "Genuine Black and White Magic of Marie Laveau," by Zora Neale Hurston, Catherine Yronwode, et al; Hoodoo's first grimoire and spell-book, originally edited by the famed African-American folklorist and novelist Zora Neale Hurston, holds a historical place that no other conjure book can claim, for it provides the modern practitioner with guidance and training in authentic New Orleans rootwork, as it was in 1928;
* "The Guiding Light to Power and Success," by Mikhail Strabo, edited by Catherine Yronwode; This ground-breaking work was originally sold via ads in Black-owned newspapers, and it opened up a nation-wide conversation on the increasing importance of conjure work with candles;
* "Legends of Incense, Herb, and Oil Magic," by Lewis de Claremont, edited by Catherine Yronwode; From 1936, when it burst on the scene, until 2006, when it went out of print, Legends of Incense, Herb, and Oil Magic was an occult shop classic;
* "The Secret of Numbers Revealed," by Godfrey Spencer, Dr. Roy Page Walton, and Catherine Yronwode; Numbers are everywhere and all around us — but do you know what they mean and how to read them? This book explains the five branches of numerical influence on human affairs;
* "Secrets of The Crystal Silence League," by Claude Alexander Conlin, edited by Catherine Yronwode; Dedicants of the Crystal Silence League send thoughts and prayers of joy, health, strength, love, success, and protection to all, and, in turn, receive the fruits of mutually supported prayer;
and
* "This Amazing Book," by Sunrae Products Company and Catherine Yronwode. In 1947, when it was first offered for sale, This Amazing Book was a rural herbalist's delight. Published by the strangely obscure Sunrae Products Company in the tiny town of Ogema, Wisconsin, it was marketed via a series of small classified ads in popular do-it-yourself magazines, and gave traditional rootworkers an introduction to the convenience of mail- order supplies;
All eight of these amazing books on spell-casting, folk magic, herb medicine, and fortune-telling have been edited (and in some cases co-authored) by Cat Yronwode, and will be signed by her.
