My name is Zaraan, and I'm 21 years old. My family is all originally from Mississippi but through the need to find work, half of us settled in Michigan, where I was born and live now. For the past two or three years I've been trying to get my hands on any resource possible to learn more about Hoodoo, ATRs, and ADRs. There are many things relating to Hoodoo that have been passed down through my family, and recently I've been able to petition my ancestors for very basic questions, but there's still what seems like an infinite wealth of knowledge that I've yet to know I don't know.
I'm happy to have come back to this website, and to have found this forum. Now to overcome my horrible shyness and actually use it! For some reference, I have been reading through various works by Stephanie Rose Bird (Sticks, Stones, Roots, and Bones; The Healing Power of African-American Spirituality; 365 Days of Hoodoo), as well as books about Yoruba and its history, and have very recently become in tune with The Hoodoo Tarot by Tayannah Lee McQuillar. I have various other books about herbalism (specifically two volumes detailing plants found in the "old world" and the "new world"), Incense Magick (written for the general pagan, but has lovely guides on how to make incense and is what taught me), and a handful of mostly quite old but a couple of newer astrology books.
I'm excited to continue to learn more as I progress through my own journey to find my roots (and purchase another book or two).
