Yes they are the same. The thing is that Geranium essential oil in itself has odor variations. Some smell fruity, and others more floral, Rose geranium is the floral kind, but Rose geranium is still Geranium,

In terms of active components and benefits, the two oils are similar but some people prefer rose geranium essential oil over the other due to its floral fragrance.

elixa,

You are correct -- and so is alexander123: The two distilled extracts, Geranium and Rose Geranium, are similar in most ways, but their fragrance differs, in much the same way that Damascus Rose, Tea Rose, and Musk Rose differ in scent. In the case of hoodoo formulas, historically speaking, and currently as well, the Geranium of choice has always been Rose Geranium. While not a true Rose, it is florally aromatic on top of the sharper Geranium notes, and it does blend well with true Rose scents in perfumery. It is generally employed in making love oils.
