Cheryce (chy) Marveta Clayton Shaudis currently 40-ish
I've been working full-time as a dukkerer - atout more than tarot for several years, I have a college edu in nutrition and pharmacopacology (plants as medicine). I have at various times in my life gone to Medical school, been in the US Navy, been a Merchant Marine, been a Paramedic, been a chef, and been a crisis counselor. I've also spent a year with a small Circus, worker as a rough-neck, and made my Grand Rom between age 17and 18 - from Corpus Cristi TX to Argentina to Brazil then Cuba and San Salvador, back to Central America through the Canal up to Mexico and across the border one night because I lost my passport at some point in the journey. Back to San Diego, Los Angeles, then Seattle in time to get pregnant with my only child. These days I'm lazy - only just starting to get a handle on the whole internet thing.
Heritage and Lineage:
Great grand daughter of Leo Merryman who was once of Florida then Oklahoma and late of Eastern WA.
Grand Daughter of Beatrice Merryman Clayton who was both of Eastern WA and Arizona, with a youth in Florida, Georgia, and Lousianna/Mississippi. She ran the (North of Seattle WA) Firdale Village Arts Center in the 70's
Both Choctaw rootworkers.
Also Grand daughter of Sylveta Louis Armstrong Leach (who was a Turner) who was a Romani Drabrani (which some would misname Shivani).
And daughter of Sylveta Louis Leach Clayton (who had no clan) who was a Bregnina Bun (seller of curses).
My grandmother and her family raised me.
I understand my romi background but have only recently begun to explore the things I learned from my Choctaw side, and while I have the how-to's down and have been doing for years I don't always understand the why's or the history.
An example:
My sister and I were playing in my Grandmother Clayton's garden once (being maybe 5 and 6) and we put the thorns of some freshly pruned roses on our noses and play acted being rhinos.
My mother stopped us saying "You're making the noi (faeries) cry."
My grandmother Clayton commented "It's not the faeries I would worry about," and the explained that dark things like girls wearing thorns. Years later she glued rose thorns to the face and chest of a doll and explained she was using it as bait for a very bad man she wanted to hurt.
I've been reading the forum here for months and explored the Lucky Mojo site and have not found anything to explain this use of rose thorns.
