Hello, my name is Johnny eye and I currently live in Switzerland. I've lived here with my wife for six years. I am an American and was born in Kentucky. I lived and went to grade and two years of high school in southern California. I went to trade/technical school in Stone mountain Georgia and I attended community college in Eugene Oregon. I've pretty much lived and worked all over the United states with the exception of the Northeast. I love the south and consider it to be my true home. I spent nearly nine years in Georgia and several more in Fla., the Carolinas, Texas, Miss., Louisiana and Kentucky. the rest of my adult life I spent between Washington, Montana, Oregon and Idaho. I've also spent quite a bit of time in New Mexico and Arizona.(younger days).
I worked with horses and mules since I was very young and have made a moderate living with them. I was involved with the Sulky circuits in Ky. and Ohio. I was a packer, a wrangler and working stockman in Montana and Idaho. I also owned my own horses and spent the majority of my time under the open sky and solitude. I was also a commercial/industrial electrician which supplemented my income to a great margin. I was a licensed journeyman in three states and worked all over the states as such. I attended community college with a major in renewable energies.
I've been interested the spiritual aspects of the occult since I can remember. I was a Minerval initiate of the OTO in Eugene Or. for a year and while studying there I took interest in the movements of the planets. I learned to use a sextant and nautical tables and have found a great beauty in this work. I work with a pretty wide variety of herbs and the I-ching. I set out a big garden last year which included some root, leave and flower herbs, plus a great many varieties of wild flowers and natural grasses. I would like to get into breeding and have began extensive studies on the subject, however, I don't have a spot this year.
I play the guitar, some keyboard, blues harp and sing. the electric guitar being my primary interest. I play 'hard edge' blues, funk and blues rock. While in the States, I studied and played acoustical blues. The primordial backbone of all that we've come to know as 'Rock n Roll'. An expression of pain and sufferance that has since not been better said by anyone on this planet.
My interest in Hoodoo stems from several sources, it is part of the heritage of the deep south which brings to my mind Southern oaks draped with Spanish moss dancing in a moonlit summer breeze. Shades of
phantasmagoria in the periphery. The days when the Mississippi's banks were crowded with forest and the Delta as much in wetland and wildlife. Gators would let go their ancient roar at sunset and the air would be thick with fireflies and the buzz of night insects, the thick with the scents of earth and water. A window of cypress cabin lit by the glow of an oil lamp or candle. A world filled with wonder and mystery. To me, it is no wonder that majik was so much a part of life - life was majik. Hoodoo seems to me to be as natural as working with the land, something that is vital for the soul. There is no explaining that, I believe one must work with the land to find peace, or as I heard Tom Waits say ' You gotta get behind a mule, in the mornin and plow'.
I suppose I've rambled on enough. I hope to make some friends at this forum.
