saying hello from Indiana!
Hi everyone! I am glad that I found this site. I was browsing the web and came across your site. I am new to this hoodo and conjure, but I am excited to learn more about it. I have always had an interest in these types of communities, but never knew enough to learn anything. I hope to learn from everyone's wisdom. Thank you!

Re: saying hello from Indiana!
Thank you. I am new to hoodoo but I have been around different people with skills.
What does hoodo consist of? I know that it uses candles and oils (I was searching awesome candles when I found this site
)
I had a friend that read tarot cards and she owns a shop with oils and books and candles etc.
I do know that there is a fine line between what most people call witchcraft and others call spiritual works. Could you clarify that for me? Thank you.

Hoodoo is African American folk magic with admixtures from other cultures as well. It is practiced primarily by Americans with family ties to the South, both Black and White, and it has spread all around the world in the internet age. Other names for it are conjure, root work, tricking, root doctoring, helping yourself, using that mess, and witchcrafting (the latter not to be confused with the use of the term wictchcraft to mean European folk magic and/or a Neo-Pagan religion).

And, yes, we do employ candles, anointing oils, herbs, roots, and incenses. Reading tarot is not an essential part of the work of hoodoo per se, but many forms of divination are practiced by hoodoo workers, including dream divination, crystal ball scrying, palmistry, astrology, playing card and tarot card reading, and pendulum dowsing.
