Also new to LM...

Hi ya'll,
I've been listening online to the Lucky Mojo Radio show off itunes and finally decided I'm curious enough to check out the forum.
I have always been interested in folk magick work and I have a very diverse cultural family background. Growing up my I was exposed to Italian folk magick, Pow Wow and Native American Shamanism. My son's line I can trace to a plantation in Alabama. His great great grandfather was a Buffalo Soldier. I've been trying to learning more about his family's roots and find where in Africa they came from. My husband's family is French Creole's mixed with Cherokee. Most of his family still lives in the deep south and the Appalachian areas. I've been considering taking the correspondence course.

So, any advise where to start? lol I've read Denise Alvarado's Voodoo Hoodoo Spellbook so far and the pages on Lucky Mojo. Should I order the HHRM book next and just look through the forum?

Yes, order the book, in hardcover if possible! You'll refer to it again and again.

Thank you Miss Tammie Lee! I will read on both your links and I continue to listen to the LMHRH podcasts. I have learned so much just listening. I'm also working on my divination skills.

On the course work, I see I will have to have connections with an African American. Can I use a family member from my son's line, or would it be better to consider a friend of mine at work? Just thinking about the future towards taking the course .

Odessa, I assume you've already solved this problem to your own satisfaction, so I'll answer for the benefit of future readers in your situation:
Don't ask about "rootwork" or "witchcraft." Most folks don't like to talk about weird stuff like that -- or, if they do believe in and know about it, don't want to give away all their secrets.
Start a casual discussion about "family customs," anything from New Year's and Christmas celebrations to family cures for minor illnesses ("Do you know what was in that herb tea your grandma used?")
I really lucked out when I did this assignment -- I was scheduling a medical appointment for someone born on February 3, 1923 (yes, 2/3/23!). So I asked, "Have you ever played that number?" So we got to talk about that, and lucky dreams and things, for a few minutes.
Hope this helps,
Miss Michaele
