Drucilla,
Orion is an experienced Anglo-American mystic who was raised in the South. He has adapted some traditional hoodoo ways to his Pagan teachings, but i would frankly (and respectfully) call him a Pagan magician, not a hoodoo rootworker. He, in fact, calls what he does "conjure," which, while it was originally an old African-American term, has recently been creatively employed by mostly White Pagans to distinguish their own non-African-American ways of spell-casting from Black American folk-magic. We carry his book, "The Candle and the Crossroads" in our bookstore for our Pagan customers who are interested in how Pagans are developing an American form of witchcraft.
Here is how Orion's press releases describe him -- and you will note that hoodoo is not in his CV:
"Orion grew up with the second sight in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, an area rife with the folk practices of the southern and Appalachian tradition. He is a witch and Elder in Romano Celtic-Traditional Craft, High Priest in Alexandrian Wicca and teacher of the Faery Seership tradition. He is also the founding Elder of Foxwood Temple and a primary founder of the Alliance of the Old Religion, a national network of covens in his line that have united to preserve the ways of his Elders. He was the co-director of Moonridge, a center for metaphysical, Craft and Faery studies in Maryland..."
He became a student in my Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course in 2003 and graduated in 2009.
