I have been interested in Hoodoo since I was 16 (1973). I was in my junior year of high school when I mail ordered some catalogs from a now defunct company that was listed in a book on Voodoo (one of Robert Pelton's) I borrowed from a library in Dublin, CA on a visit. Hoodoo called to me. That's all I can say. I have been in love with anything Hoodoo-oriented ever since. Utah is an interesting place for someone involved in Hoodoo, as there isn't a lot of people that I have met here throughout the years that are knowledgeable. For 14 years I lived in San Francisco and in Fresno, CA for 17 years. Both cities have a great abundance of botanicas and new age stores and practitioners.
I moved up here in 1972 from San Francisco left after a divorce in 1987 and wen back to CA and then returned to Utah when I married my high school sweetheart after being widowed in 2009. We are in a veritable spiritual desert when it comes to Hoodoo and supplies not to mention finding decent information ...except for Lucky Mojo. I have followed the Lucky Mojo website for many years and bought some items from them and have never been disappointed. My goal is to be enrolled in the Correspondence Course and eventually have a store here in the Central Utah area as there is a real need for it here. The people have no botanicas or bookstores anywhere in this area in a 60 mile radius and there is a need for spiritual supplies.
Now retired, I am seriously motivated to study in earnest. I have read extensively throughout my life on Black Culture and history, folklore and belief systems as well as been immersed in Hispanic culture and folk magic back in California. My former husband was not very open to the subject and so I spent a lot of time feeling spiritually depressed, not being able to really get involved in my studies. My current husband is extremely supportive and interested and is thinking of also taking the Course.
We live in the mountains on 10 acres and are in the process of getting a greenhouse and garden together to grow our own food, herbs and roots. It's a challenge since we experience 20 below (

I have always loved anything to do with New Orleans Vodou practices, folk magic, spells, Santeria, the Saints, herb and root lore (my grandmother and her mother were herbalists), crystals, and the South. Avid B.B. King fan and blues lover. Also collect music from just about every style except rap and hip-hop. When my little brother moved to New Orleans, I was ecstatic. It gives me a goal to get down there and see some of the spiritual sites and experience things first hand.
I would love to communicate with anyone looking for a email pal to study with or share knowledge. Looking forward to getting to know you better and learning more...something I never want to stop doing.
Love and Best Wishes to all.
