Hello everyone,

I am a 25 year old who considers herself an artist, witch and explorer. It has only been the last couple years thatI have been studying magics of all sorts. This coming year I hope to really dig my heals in to hoodoo, root work, and really start getting my hand dirty with physical workings of magic.

I am a lover of art, animals, and books. Born on June 21, gemini - cancer cusp.

I have been walking along the path of magic my whole life ,but only recently my eyes have become more open and understanding. Really in the last year or two. I'm fairly in-tune, my card reading is pretty good, I'm working still on directly communicating with my guides.

Last week I went to a metaphysical shop which I trust and had their medium read for me. She has told me which direction I am to move towards. But I'm not sure how to start, it seems like something I could never have imagined in myself. I might apply to have a reading and rootwork advice on the show, but I was hoping maybe someone here would be able to talk to me instead. I guess I'm hoping there might be someone I can relate with.

Basically what she told me is that I have a great spiritual power, and that my spiritual self and path has a long way to go because of this power. I want to use the word she used but I'm not sure I should go blabbing everywhere about it. I'm fairly sure the physical journey I am on, and began about 6 months ago has just started. I'm hoping I'm ready for this.

I am excited to continue my physical and spiritual wanderings. I hope to start meeting others like me in this world.

So, I'm hoping the right person finds this. Also, I'm thinking about making a mojobag, but I'm not sure what it would be for. I've also never made a mojobag, maybe I should make one for something else first to learn about them first?

Please do not make a mojo bag until you know what it is, how to spell it (two words, not one) and what you want it for. Most people rely on professional toby makers to put these together, yes, you can do it yourself, but if you have never seen one, con't spell it, and don't know what you want it for, you're just wasting yiur time.

This forum is about the study and practice of African American folk-magic, and it is the customer service outreach of the Lucky Mojo Curio Co., not your local metaphysical shop. We are here to help, and there are moderators online almost every hour.

Hoodoo is a culturally embedded way of working. It is not a magical path in the sense that many Witches use that term. The closer you stick to the African American community, the more you will learn. The farther away from the African American community you drift, the less you will learn.

Here is some info on how the forums are set up. It is divided into four parts:

1) News and Announcements about the Lucky Mojo Curio Company and this site.

2) Lucky Mojo Spiritual Supplies and how to use them, listed in threads by product type and product title.

3) Life Conditions and Situations, with recommended Lucky Mojo products, spells, and advice.

4) The Online Hoodoo Community, including sites, events, and outreach sponsored by Lucky Mojo.

When you post, it helps your moderators, who are recompensed volunteers, if you post in the area of the board that is best suited to the archival of your question or comment. That way moderators will not have to move your post or merge it into ongoing threads.

If you can't find a post you made, it may have been moved or merged. Go to your profile by clicking on your name and "search recent posts" -- you will find it.

Within each board section there are STICKY threads -- ones that always stay "stuck" to the top. These are popular discussion-threads that you can read and add to if your questions or comments fall into one of these oft-broached topics. If you don't see a "sticky" that relates to your question, feel free to start a new thread in the relevant section.

We do have a few "thou shalt not" rules here, and they can be found in the Forum Rules link at the top of each page. Most important for newbies are these four common errors to avoid:

1) Please do not come here asking for our formulas for conjure oils or for instructions on how to use spiritual supplies that you bought at a grocery store or at a competitor of ours; this is the Lucky Mojo Forum and is financially supported by the Lucky Mojo Curio Co.

2) Please do not spam the moderators by sending multiple duplicated private messages asking for personal help outside the board; many of our moderators do perform readings and rootwork spell-casting for clients, but they are professionals and you should approach them as you would any other professional.

3) Please do not post illegal copies of material from other web sites or from books.

4) Please do not post put-downs of any group of people based on their religion, race, or national origin, including derogatory comments about religions to which you may have previously been an adherent or comments in which you seek to falsely conflate any religion with the practice of evil sorcery.

Thank you for all the information. Yes, I understand all that you have said. I was just giving some background is all. And I do apologize for my misspellings, never was a strong suit of mine. I've read quite a bit from this site, a few hoodoo & voodoo books, listened to the show, and other root working & conjure based podcasts

I do know and understand what a mojo bag is, how it works, etc. I just have never made the leap to actually purchasing all the pieces and working them together. (From your shop of course)

P.s. i am still getting used to the board layout, and understand. There's a lot on here, trying to find just the right place fore something takes a sec to understand.

This is just a bit of my own personal history/experience with regard to mojo bags. I made my first one after a lot of reading and reference work, without ever having owned one myself. The bag I chose to make was for a friend, a safe travel toby that you'll find described here: http://www.luckymojo.com/safetravel.html (a little down the page). In retrospect I can say that the bag worked, but was far from what it could have been in both execution and results.

My mojo-making improved substantially after I'd begun by purchasing a couple of mojos from LM, taken those apart, put them together; taken a couple of classes and coaching sessions with AIRR members on how to make and work mojos, and made at least a dozen of them for myself and those around me. Now I can say that a toby will pack one helluva punch if I make it and I'm confident in both ingredient choice and bag assembly.

If mojos are something which interest you, a few suggestions include:
1 - For your first mojo, purchase one from LM so you can see what it looks like, how its put together and how to bring it to life (their instructions and ingredient lists are really thorough)

Thank you so much Aura, I'm excited to have my first few experiences with mojo hands. I believe I will purchase a couple, one for me and one for my mom for the holidays. As I start thinking about making my first one (I have some ideas).

I'm glad to have so much more info to pull from.

One of the reasons I really want to start interacting here at lucky mojo is so I can eventually take the correspondence classes and then ultimately be able to work in the 3-week apprenticeship.

I've been working with a few things I'd learned from the boards, but right now I'm waiting on my copies of the books Aura mentioned, "Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic" and "The Black Folder." You'll also want to read Ms. cat's online book, Hoodoo in Theory and Practice.

I do Tarot card readings in the Salt Lake City area. I'm also hoping to take the correspondence course soon!
