I grew up with a grammon from Haiti and have been to Haiti many times and I must say I have not seen florida water used for a hot ingredient, i have always seen it use to cool, but just because I have not seen it, does not mean it is not so , it just mean I have not seen it. So let's ask the person who is teaching folks that it is a "hot" thing, how it is use hot because I would like to know, as I always want to learn.

(Thanks for that comment. It seems folks here say, about 6-to-1, that in our various traditions, Florida Water is cooling. This is not to say that anuyone's teacher is "wrong" in using it as a "hot" ingredient, but that view is in the minority here. However, to use it "hot," all you have to do is SET IT ON FIRE! It is an alcohol and it really does BURN!!!--cat)

I was reading a wealth creating spell and it mentions that we have to soak lodestone in whiskey overnight...what else is considered a appropriate option since we dont drink and it would be awkward / impossible to bring any alcohol in the home?

I would go with Hoyt's cologne myself.

Turnsteel is right, Hyot's cologne or any kind of alcohol base perfume.

I learned this is a great suggestion to give especially to someone who has gone through alcoholism and doesn't keep any alcohol in the home.

Going with substitutes is generally a bad idea.There is usually a good reason for each ingredient in a spell made by a professional and looking for substitutes out of convenience is a dangerous road for any unexperienced practitioner.
This means that you no loger know what you are doing.
If you are going to use a well tried spell you use what is in the recipe. Sugar can not be substituted by salt, when making a sugar pound cake.

When looking for a substitute the best thing to do is to ask Dr. Kioni himself and learn why it is used in his spell.

The second best thing is to research why the loadstones may be soaked in whiskey over night in the Hoodoo tradition. If you read here http://www.luckymojo.com/lodestone.html, you see that turnsteel gave you a good suggestion.
But since there may be more reasons than one for the soaking it still does not answer why Dr. Kioni was referring to in his spell.

Things like this should be considered when asking for substitutions in a recipe if you want to be sure of what you are doing.

You can buy small (airline) bottles at most liquor stores. No need for anyone in the house to know what you are doing; just put store the 1 oz bottle with your oils or other supplies.

I've searched the catalog for Kolonia 1800. I want to make an old Papa Jim Road Opener bath which calls for it in the recipe, but I can't find it. I found a couple of references on the site(s), but not the product. I looked through the magic perfumes and colognes, too. Do you sell it? If not, is there a suitable substitution? Will sandalwood oil suffice?

My apology if this is posted in the wrong forum. I didn't see a forum for perfumes and colognes, and didn't want to infringe on "oils".

You are right: Lucky Mojo does not sell this.
There are many different types of the cologne that you're asking about. But, if you want the Sandalwood then, yes, the Sandalwood oil is actually better (in my humble opinion)
If you want any of the other aromas, Lucky mojo does sell waters such as: Rose Water, etc.

How does one use Kananga Water?

I have Florida Water & use that to clean my altars between spells. Would Kananga be used in a similar way?

Also, it seems like Kananga might be used more for love spells? I don't know why I'm thinking this, but is it true?

Kanaga Water contains essential oil of the Cananga or Ylang Ylang flower, a native of the Philppines. It is used in many ceremonial contexts, including both weddings and funerary rites, much as the Tuberose is used in Mexico and the Rose is used in North America. It is now commercially grown in other tropical areas as well. With its long historical use as a funerary flower, it is as closely connected to ancestor veneration as to love magic. The fragrance is very nice, however, and in addition to straight Kananga Water, there are a number of commercial colognes and perfumes that contain a hint of Cananga odorata in them.

I received my first order from Lm today and love it, Book is very good and the perfume looks and smells magical.I just have a couple of questions regarding the Double luck perfume

1.Does it work for all kinds of luck as well as love and money?
2.Is it safe to use around cats and dogs,I want to wear it but sometimes pick them up so it may rub on them and I was going to drizzle a little on my doorstep and just wanted to check its safe cause they will walk through it.Is it only like normal perfume?
3.Would it work in a aromatherapy locket?
4.Could it work if I anointed a petition and stored it in a spell box?

Hi Daenerys,

1) I believe the double formula is specifically focused on Love & Money, which is why you've got the red/green coloration .
2) I'd treat it like any perfume or essential oil. The magic certainly isn't going to hurt your critters if they rub against you or pad through it, but you don't want to, say, rub any on your dog, as it may irritate them.
3) I don't see why not!
4) Absolutely, if it's a petition for luck in love or money.

That’s very helpful to know,I will stick to love and money with the perfume then- I have enough issues in those areas to keep it busy but will definitely get a general luck oil when I next order.
No I wouldn’t be rubbing on my pets,as I’ve done some reading on aromatherapy I know there are some oils that can be dangerous so had just wondered if there was any precautions needed above the usual.

I'm native American and tabacco is a sacred herb to my culture. Unfortunately I am not allowed to burn tabbaco due to the people I live with. The reason I want to use tabacco is because I want to give it as an offering to my ancestors. Also I am unsure if tabacco cologne is used in hoodoo and I want to stay as traditionally as possible to this tradition. But I would like to use cologne because I can't burn some.

Would this be okay,?

Also how can I use it to honor my ancestors.

What's a recommended tabacco cologne?

I would recommend going to a quiet, outdoor location and give the tobacco offering there. Even if you live in a city, a public park or the back of a local cemetery would be an excellent choice. Sweet grass would be another traditional offering to Native American ancestors and depending on the tribe, it may be preferred.

They are your ancestors, what do you think they would like? Hoodoo itself doesn't give rules and limits on what can be offered. My grandma liked tea so I would offer tea to her. No rules broken.

I haven't heard of tobacco cologne, sorry. Maybe someone else can weigh in.

Just wanted to share a little recipe with y'all. JayDee and I were brainstorming how I could use Florida Water daily on myself when my partner absolutely hates the smell of it. JayDee suggested adding lemongrass essential oil to it, and I went one step further.

Mix 1/2 Florida Water and 1/2 4711 Cologne in a bottle (I prefer spray bottles) add some dried lemongrass (this will tint the liquid the most beautiful green color) and then add lemongrass essential oil to your liking.

This mixture smells fantastic and I can't stop spraying it all over me. Even better, my partner hasn't complained once haha.

Ah, 4711 -- the true Cologne from Cologne, Germany. Hoyt's is a nice copy of it (and that's why it used to be called "Hoyt's German Cologne" back before World War One), and Florida Water is a simpler and cheaper version of that. If 4711 weren't so expensive, i would use it for everything!
