I was just listening to
"The Doctrine of Signatures"
Hoodoo Rootwork Hour Radio
Show CD with Cat, Dr. Kioni and
students ad Dr. Kioni was talking
about how a lot of us are isolated
practitioners and he talked about
planning a Hoodoo convention.
Sounds like a great idea!

I think it's a great idea, and I'd be willing to pitch in
time/money/energy/couchspace.

(I so like the idea of meeting folks, but i am pretty much a homebody -- i hope you all come up with ways to meet each other in your local regions. --cat)

Ok, this is really amazing! A few nights ago, I was watching TV about Mardi
Gras in N.O. and what's going on there. It came to me that wouldn't it be
great if we all united in N.O for a gathering, meeting and celebrating while
helping the suffering economy there! For sure, NOT during Mardi Gras, but at
some easy time during the year for all of us. So maybe this is not so far
fetched an idea for a hoodoo fest... That way, Cat, you can attend with

Well.... it was in the 20's last night so it gets fairly cold here in the sip. We have a little saying about the weather in Jackson. "If you don't like it....just wait until tomorrow because it will be something totally different." We can go from the 70's to the 20's in a days time. Its just crazy like that. But the spring is usually nice if you can get passed the rain. October/November are also good times with tempertures anywhere from 80's to 40's. Again, it just varies from day to day and week to week.

Dear cat, and list,

Just wanted to let you know that I am back home in
Philly, safe and sound. Let Carin know that her
"weather working" worked great! The flight was smooth
as glass, with clear weather all the way across the
country.

Thank you again for opening up your home to me for the
past 2 weeks. You and Siva are very generous hosts. I
had a great time and learned a great deal. You, cat,
have amassed so much knowledge in so many interesting
areas besides hoodoo that is not written down (maybe
you will consider writing another book?) I'm glad the
homework project is now in a good manageable place. It
was very gratifying to be of service to my fellow
students.

And I want to thank everyone at the Lucky Mojo store.
Your good company and great patience with all my
questions (Kathy and Celeste especially!) made my work
in the store a true pleasure. I hope to come back
again.

You were so patient with our quirks, too -- we are not the usual kind of folks who people visit, so we really appreciated your adjustment to our oddities. I hope you come bck again sometime -- you're always welcome to stay in the spare room. As for my other interests -- well, i suppose i'll live long enough to write a few more books or web pages. --cat)

Hey Cat...well, I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I've booked my

plane, car, hotel and me and Owl will be arriving on Friday May 5th. I

Hi, all, it's Carin popping in to say hi, and make a suggestion to
those of you planning to come for the Open House on May 6,
especially if you'll be spending more than an hour or so here.

There's lots of room in the garden here at Lucky Mojo, but not
lots of seating. There is some, but not a ton. If you're driving,
rather than flying or bussing, to get here, you might consider
bringing along your favorite lawn chair or pic-a-nic blanket.

theres a good chance that i'll be coming to the hoodoo get together on
may 6th.i have a question about two plants that i picked up at the
near by river.i was told one was 'unicorn root', but it doesnt look
anything like the pictures ive come across on the web.i have the
pods.there is also a plant that look very much like lambs ears,but
isnt.could i bring them along and see if anyone can identify them?

(Great idea, Jackie. Robin York is bringing food too (chicken wings last time we talked). Also, i think there will be some folks coming who do not read this goup, including students and their family / friends. Finally, DOn'T WORRY! If the table gets bare, we can send scouts down to the local picnic food supply market (Speer's), the local hippy market (Andy's, and/or the local pie shop (Mom's). We are close to the Russian River, hence many tourists and campers come through and wish to buy pe-made lunches; i have successfully filled in shortages during big parties by setting out various gourmet bufffet items from those places. --cat)

A really smart idea. I'm going to make 2 big-ass pots of
gumbo, so that will probably feed about 40 and Carin and I are going to call
the local Thai joint to get steamed rice so I don't have to ship my rice
cooker.

If we don't have that many people, then Cat and Siva are gonna have gumbo to
freeze for later, I just can't cook small! hahaha. By the way, Owl and I
will descend upon LMC on Friday to start cooking, helping, shopping; so if
anything needs to be picked up between Oakland and Forestville, we'll have a
car and will going to various stores before we arrive. Yeeha xxx-Sindy

Well, i am going to be brief, because i am still recuperating, but the
party was a great success, especially thanks to the tireless efforts of
Sindy Todo, Owl, and Celeste Davidson, who were the real hostesses of
the event. (Me being me, i did not hostess, but spent the first hour of
the party typing up liner notes for the free CD giveaway for guests --
26 hoodoo songs from the 1920s - 1960s -- while faithful siva cut them
out and inserted them into the jewel boxes.

We had about 50 guests over the course of 10 hours, and they arrived in
two waves -- first the locals and the out-of-towners who stayed at
nearby accomodations, and then the Bay area folks, who all got caught
in a giant traffic jame driving north on 101 and arrived in mid-
afternoon.

Sindy made her justiably famous gumbo, Ferne Cambell brought dirty
rice, Vivian Freeman brought white rice, Robin York brought barbegued
chicken and fruit salad, Holly Greenwood vborught a pincess cake,
Micahele Maurer brought beans and greens, and there were many other
wonderful foods whose makers i never did identify and properly thank --
chocalte cakes, apple brown betty, spicy sausages, bread, salad -- not
to mention many bottles of wine, soda, and water. The layout of food
was awesome. Siva and i have a freezer, so the excess is being safely
tucked away for providential future use, and we will look back kindly
on those who supply our meals in days to come.

There were some great meetings and greetings. My sister Holly was a
sight to see, especially after she tricked herself out in the beautiful
cut-velvet scarf Sindy had brought for me (but we both agreed it looked
perfect on her and what are sisters for if not to steal your
clothes?!?). My daughter Althaea also was here, with her boyfriend
David Greenstone, as was siva's sister June and our neice Ariel. Robin
York, her mom Kathleen, and Kathleen's freind Brenda were wonderful,
and i had a very surpising moment when an ex-Lucky Mojo employee, David
Stolowitz, showed up with his two roommates -- one of whom was the ex-
Eclipse Comics employee Lester Bush, whom i had not seen in half a
decade, at least. Jackie brought her two daughters, Tanisa Mooney
brought her own beatiful self, Ferne Cambell came with her husband
Cirvus, Sarah Sliwski and her eclectic coven-mates were fun as always,
and there were a trio of Susie, Susan, and Suzanne as well. Brian, who
works in the shop brought along his whole family to meet -- his wife,
mother, sister, and two children! Robert carried things, Don ran
"sinner's corener" up by the barn where tobacco was smoked, and dozens
of other folks who i can't recall right now came and went while Chelsa.
Carin, and Celeste helped run the shop for those who wanted to shop
while they partied.

So today we have been relaxing and resting... with grateful hearts for
all those who made this event possible.

It was great, and i hope to do it again sometime.

Well, the first Annual Hoodoo Party at the Lucky Mojo Curio Co. was a
smash. There was about twice as much food as required; they'll be
eating chocolate cake and gumbo for days. They'll have to, because
their 1925-era fridge won't hold it all, and I didn't see any place
else to put it.

I didn't spend much time with Cat, who had her hands full running
the shop as well as being the hostess. But that was all right; I got
to meet some wonderful people. Sindy Todo was there - warm,
enthusiastic, and articulate. Give her a couple of days and a clean
kitchen, and she'll show you why gumbo is one of the treasures of
American cuisine. My husband Harry had several helpings and chatted
about the Louisiana Purchase (don't you love Wikipedia?) while I was
in the shop eavesdropping on Tanisia Mooney talking about working with
saints. Later I found myself in the kitchen with Sindy, Holly
Greenwood and Jackie, talking about seeking spirit allies and how
people make it so much harder than it is.

After that, I got to meet Robin ("Wicked Barbecue") York and her
mother, Kathleen, along with Kathleen's friend Brenda. They're both
clairvoyant ladies of a certain age. We talked about health, diet, -
and rootwork, of course. I showed Brenda how I dress dollar bills for
the homeless, and asked her "What kind of church can a person with our
gifts go to, and be supported and respected?" She suggested the same
one Moses went to: the wilderness! I really liked these two ladies,
and hope to meet them again.

There's a little more, but I've forgotten most of it. I love going
places where I experience more than I can remember.

I'm a little disappointed that I arrived too late to meet Ferne. Maybe
next year

And of course, I didn't get to meet *everyone* or hear *everything,*
so I hope other guests will chime in with their impressions.

Also, still a little "weepy" from having to say goodbye. I sure left a piece

Sorry I missed you, too, Michaele! We figured we take advantage of our proximity to Guerneville and, after schmoozing and feasting, kidnapped Suzanne and her husband, Aaron, and took them to meet our friend, Al, who sells myriad and marvelous crystals and stones at the flea market in Guerneville and then go worship in one of my favorite "temples", Armstrong Woods, and offer up a libation of very good Port that Suzanne had brought along.

I, unfortunately, didn't get to meet a lot of the folks who were cruising the blossoming gardens and titillating corners of Cat and Siva's home...not formally, anyway, although there were passing smiles, nods and comments about flowers and good grits. I did spend some time with Sindy, ruminating over the temperature and time for heating the dirty rice and a whirlwind exchange of histories...and satisfied my carnivorous propensities dipping into the hot links Sindy was frying up. That woman was all over that kitchen like a Cajun Kali...frying, stirring, dishing up portions of gumbo and welcoming everyone who poked in to sniff and salivate. If the kitchen is the heart of the house, Sindy was it's heartbeat on Saturday. Corvus was in Seventh Heaven chowing down the gumbo.

We listened to the cd that Cat and Siva made for the party this morning over our Sunday morning coffee and it's GREAT! Love it!

Hope to meet more folks next time around...or sooner!

Gang, It was wonderful WONDERFUL to meet y'all. I think we could have
all camped out in cat's meadow and traded stories for about a week
(except Sindy would be chained to the stove! Poor thing!)

BTW Sindy....we were talking about the twins and their love thang...so
this morning I am gardening (6:30, and I transplanting gardenia bushes)
and thinking about all the conversations on Saturday...and guess
what...Lou Rawls comes through in my head "You're Gonna Miss My Lovin'"
Wow-wee Zowie! What a jinxing song! Lou goes on to say that the one he
is singing to " will never find another love like mine; you;ll keep
searching and searching, your whole life through" "Oh I'm not bragging
on myself, baby, but I'm the one who loves you and there's no one else."

Damn, Sindy...the twins...tell them to stop listening to Lou!

I would like to see us do this again, it was so good. The
gumbo was to die for and Robin's chocolate masterpiece, LORDY! cat gave
is a great cd and I listened to it over and over again yesterday (it's
one of those grab a glass of wine and sit under the tree to listen
kinda things).

(Hey, Jackie, it was great seeing you at HoodooMania. And i too hope we do it again some time. And i'm glad you liked the CD. --cat)

Many thanks to Robin for talking to my daughter about
revenge work (oh, the drama of high school!) Mother Pyrite and her

Sindy and I.

Sindy was frying up. That woman was all over that kitchen like a
Cajun Kali...frying, stirring, dishing up portions of gumbo and
welcoming everyone who poked in to sniff and salivate. If the kitchen
is the heart of the house, Sindy was it's heartbeat on Saturday.
Corvus was in Seventh Heaven chowing down the gumbo.

All: What a wonderful day at LM!!! It went too fast for me, but I
got my "fix" of hoo doo'ers, gumbo, a little vino, some blessed Body
Talk work from Holly, a neat connection with cat, my coursebook
(yay!), re-connection with Carin (fellow fish) and Celeste, new
connection with Sindy (also fellow fish), super nice connection with
Ferne and Corvus (and a way too short venture into da woods with
them) and just a few pix..which Ill send to cat separately cuz I dont
know how to do it here. Thanks cat for opening your home...and
sharing your phenomenal knowledge and huge heart for hoo doo with
us....both Aaron and I had a wonderful couple of hours with you!

Oh my I am so sorry I \was not able to be there with you all. I would have especially loved to enjoy the gardens that you write about on Cat's grounds.
Cat, I see you have photos of the shop online, could you please put a few photos a few areas in your gardens online please. As a gardener I would LOVE to admire your handiwork.

Hoedown. I loved hearing everyone's reminiscences on their day there; it
was like looking through your eyes. It was such a peaceful gathering, and
my first party after my long illness and recuperation.

Sorry I missed you, too, Michaele! We figured we take advantage of our
proximity to Guerneville and, after schmoozing and feasting, kidnapped
Suzanne and her husband, Aaron, and took them to meet our friend, Al, who
sells myriad and marvelous crystals and stones at the flea market in
Guerneville and then go worship in one of my favorite "temples", Armstrong
Woods, and offer up a libation of very good Port that Suzanne had brought
along.

I, unfortunately, didn't get to meet a lot of the folks who were cruising
the blossoming gardens and titillating corners of Cat and Siva's home...not
formally, anyway, although there were passing smiles, nods and comments
about flowers and good grits. I did spend some time with Sindy, ruminating
over the temperature and time for heating the dirty rice and a whirlwind
exchange of histories...and satisfied my carnivorous propensities dipping

Oh Girl..everytime I read one of these tears just roll down my cheeks! Ya'll
are so DAMN sweet. I just feel like I met a bunch of 1/2 sisters! And, did I
have fun sharing a little shot with Aaron and Corvus (ya'll must of figured
that was a good time to go shop. hahaha) both guys were so kind and
gentlemanly... madly in love with you both Ferne and Suzanne! We sure did

I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone for putting on such a
fantastic party. My husband and I had such a good time. It was great

Amanda Darlin! I have the most interesting picture of you and your precious
Jeff sitting outside the shop going towards the house. I framed you both
sitting in the garden through that old knarley (sp?) thick rose vine. Its
very cool. Will email it to you off list. Cat, you must describe the story
of that rose vine just a little bit. Siva told it to me. It just hadn't

I'm now able to reply to all the wonderful messages about our
weekend and to convey my experience to you all. First, I am
personally extremely grateful to Cat and Siva for their hospitality
and further extension by letting me pretty much take over their
house. I was honored and it was my deepest pleasure to work in their
kitchen, (and Siva, absolutely, the dearest gentleman would make
sure I had every little thing I needed). Best of all, I have Sophie
with me most of the day fullfilling my dog needs. I am most
comfortable when I'm feeding people and am capable of great
connection in that environment. I truly cannot express the amazing
energy that premeates the house and how it totally wrapped its
loving arms around me. I also know Cat, how different this was for
you... and you did good! Thank you both, deeply.

Next, to Carin, Celeste, Diane, Eileen, Brian, Chelsea and all the
busy hands at LMC, and to Don a wonderful guardian, many thanks for
all your help and tireless work helping me and Owl. You all are so
dear to my heart and I am at your service should you ever need
me...I admire your devotion to Cat, your attention to detail and
knowledge of each and every item in the shop. Multitudes of kisses
to you all.

LMC is like opening a wonderful book, its chocked full of knowledge
and expertise. I think, honestly, I could spend a week amongst the
shelves. And, to have the benefit of Cat's presence and to watch her
in her whirl of energy was extraoridinary! She can break into a
story on a whim and you just sit there on a stool and recieve...I'll
just never be the same, I assure you. (You know how I feel Cat, so I
won't go on about you)

Last, to all the people I met, our hoodoo community and other
magical people, well, you each gave me so much to store inside and
to know that we appreciate and learn from each other. God, ya'll are
so blessed, talented and beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing
yourselves and your knowledge with me. I'll definitely be contacting
each of you offlist with a personal note and trust you will do the
same.

We had a wonderful party, reunion and fulfilling weekend. I'm home
with all my oils, herbs,roots and candles and I have a CRYSTAL BALL
to come!!!yeeeha! I'm closing the energy down on this party now. I
have some serious love work to do- Thanks again -X Sindy (I'll send

I was truely sorry not to be able to come this year, but my fond
memories of your place still hover through the silent dutch spring sky,
these days. The food will surely help you remember fondly, i know how

I'm sitting in Panera Bread in Cupertino, CA, surround by a sea of very smart Asian kids doing their homework on laptops, connected up through Panera's free wireless broadband to the Net. I'm thinking this is a great deal because Starbuck's charges $30/mth for this kind access.

So, I figure I'm going to do my homework, and I hit the bookmark for lucky mojo to read my hoodoo history from the first lesson in the HR course, and WHAM: Access Denied: Mature Site/Occult.

How come all the other kids get to do their homework here, huh?

Ok, I guess you get what you pay for.
