Hey Holly, you are too kind! I had an amazing vivid dream the other
night and I was there, cooking in Cat's kitchen and Nagasiva and i were
talking about his hair! hahaha. He had some kind of different hair cut.
Anyway, it was so real I could smell the house... No joke! So, I will
take this as a positive sign and work towards a plan. Thanks so much
for you prayers. My dog-babies are kind of old and have some liver
issues, but they are strong, happy and heal beautifully thanks to the
continued work of all of you. xxx, Sindy Todo (G)564

Re: 2008: May 3-4 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops
Cat,
I would love to attend the May event and even have my hubby half-way talked into going with me, lol. If at all possible are there any decent/affordable hotels in that area that you or anyone in the group would recommend for people that would be flying in from out of town and unfamiliar with the area?
Tosha Michelle Mendez #1296
(The best thing to do may be to rent a hotel in Oakland for the two days (the party on the 3rd in Forestville is about 1 hour north of Oakland) and then to stay in Oakland for the next night (Alameda is right next to Oakland, but is not a hotel-filled place, being a small, mostly residential island connected to Oakland by a tunel. If you fly into the Oakland Airport, there are plenty of hotels nearby. If you are driving, just use a map to locate any cheap chain-hotel near the Fruitvale Blvd / Alameda tunnel exit from the freeway. Alternatively, you could put a request here to room with a fellow-student -- i know that there are some in the Bay Area who will be attending both the party and the Workshop. --cat)

holiday, you can probably haggle a price with expedia or priceline or
any of the other chain booking agents. I have gotten a two bedroom
suite at Lake Tahoe for $100.00 just because they wanted to fill up.
Hold the line for your bid price and you'll most likely get it. Hard
ball tactics work well with these guys.

last one, i believe, so please, read it, pass it around to any elist
or Yahoo group you frequent -- and let's see you at the program!

P.S. to my Rootwork Course students: Remember, this event is open to
the public, so if you have a friend who is "hoodoo-curious" but has
never worked with a teacher first-hand, this day-long seminar will be

Re: 2008: May 3-4 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops
Christopher Warnock, who was scheduled to teach the class in
"Astrology for Rootworkers" at the May 4th Hoodoo Workshop in Alamenda
has bowed out, due to a family medical situation. I will be taking his
place and teaching that segment of the workshop. In my place, i am
proud and happy to announce that DARA ANZOLWAR will be teaching the
workshop on candle magic! The other presenters, already announced, are
Dr. Kioni and Tanisia Mooney.
Dara is well known to many in the rootwork community as the keeper of
the HyattSpells yahoo group and the Conjure Yahoo group, as well as
the proprietor of the Hoodoo Roots web sight. She has been a student
in my class, and has decades of experience serving clients, both as a
tarot reader and a rootworker. She has been on our Lucky Mojo Rootwork
Hour Radio shows as a panelist as wel, and many here are familiar with
her graceful, attentive, and caring methods of dealing with clients.
Dara will also be at the Lucky Mojo Open House party here in
Forestville on May 3rd, so if you want to meet her, do plan to attend.
Ticket sales for the workshop have been fairly slow. We really hope
for a full house, but there are only a few weeks before the event, so
please, if you were considering attending and have been hanging back,
order your ticket now and help make this first-ever get-together a
success and launch it into becoming more than a one-time event.
Full revised information on the workshop follows in the next post.

Hey cat,
Is this open to the public? I assume so, but I wanted to double check
before I passed it along to non-course members. I can't go, but I could
help you advertise it.
Karma de Gruy (961)
(It sure is open to the public. So far one person signed up who is not a course student, but i'd love to see more. And thanks for passing the word around. I appreciate it. --cat)

Re: 2008: May 3-4 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops
cat,
If you would want to, I will be happy to place the flyers in my bags
for the visitors at my Holistic Healing Expo going on Sunday, April
27th here in Elk Grove, CA. Please send them to the address you have
on file.
I have 300 chi-chi soft frosted lime green boutique bags that are
printe d with sponsorships of the exhibitors that all visitors get at
the door to stuff pamphlets and such in. Hay House has shipped a few
hundred full color flyers for the upcoming Dr. Wayne Dyer event at the
Sacramento Convention Center and they have graciously offer two
preferred seating tickets for us to raffle off the day of the Expo.
I have to thank former Lucky Mojoojo employee Carin Huber for bringing hoodoo to the tables here as I will be busy running around taking care of things with a flourish and no trace of perspiration (ha ha!)
For those talented metaphysical workers who will want to participate in the Sunday, August 3rd show, please contact me off list.
Thank you cat for letting me post this,
Jacqueline Mathers (G) 496
(I will send you flyers for our May 4th Hoodoo Workshop on Monday. Thanks greatly for the kind offer to share them around. --cat)

--cat)

I'm very much looking forward to the seminar!
You may have mentioned this already, but can we turn in the Mojo Hand
created in the seminar as Homework #8?
(Yes, you can! What a cool idea. --cat)
I hope that NEXT year's seminar will end at an earlier hour, so that I
can fly back on Sunday night instead of Monday morning.
(We were limited by the terms of the venue we are using. They do not open the place early in the morning, as they are using it then. --cat)

Re: 2008: May 3-4 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops
Cat and all, (thanks for letting me go on a bit)
I just bought my plane tickets to come down to the party and
workshop! I seriously did a lot of meditating and prayin' on this and
asked my sweet husband to understand how important it was to me to
go. I know in my soul that this will be an extroidinary weekend
having all my favorite people together... I will certainly miss
Christopher, but am thrilled that Dara has been able to step in.
Nothing thrills me more than to feed people and be of service in
whatever way, so I will assume my position in Cat's kitchen and cook
up some Baby Green Lima beans (from Louisiana) with Andouille sausage
and ham hock served on rice and help coordinate the food tables at
the party in Forestville.
I plan to attend Sunday and invite all of you to join me for what I'm
sure will be a very fun, informative day. I think there will be some
great information to glean and I'm not above myself to think that I
know everything; we always have stuff to learn no matter how gifted
we are for this work. I'm humbled by the experience of all the folks
who will be teaching and admire each of them for their expertise and
all the kindness they have shown me over the years. Talk about a
blessing! I can't wait to see Tanisia's feet washing piece...can
I volunteer? hahaha.
So, if you've been on the fence about attending, whip out that credit
card and know that the fee you pay will just "seed" your future and
that what you learn will come back to you 5 times over! I definitely
plan to get my gambling tricks down with Miss Robin! If you need
another excuse, remember, if you filed a tax return, old "George
Dubya" is going to send you check... No better way to put a hundred
bucks to use than learning some good old hoodoo with it! (That'll
teach him) hee hee. Hope to meet you all there with bells on!
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
Sindy Todo (G564)
(Sindy, as always, your cooking will be greatly appreciated and enjoyed. We'll be sure to have Tanisia use you as a "demonstration model" for foot washing. I hope that everyone who can make it will come to the party -- and for those considering the workshop, i would like to say that things are moving forward radically -- our plans to film some of the workshop work are finally on track to coming true -- and i would love to have som of my wonderful students captured on camera, if at all possible. We also have a sociologist coming out from Virginia to be a participant observer -- she intends to write an article on contemporary hoodoo practices. The venue -- The Home of Truth, in Alameda, California, is a beautiful, gentle setting, dedicated to spiritual work more than 10 years ago, and it is going to be something very wonderful to teach and work there. So, if you are, as Sindy says, "on the fence about attending," now is the time to sign up! --cat)

Re: 2008: May 3-4 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops
With about a week and a half to go, we have sold about 1/3 of the
tickets available for our first-ever hoodoo workshop. Attendance is
limited to 100 people, so we have room for plenty more.
The program is great, the setting is going to be beautiful, the
teachers are coming from far and wide, and the price is reasonable,
considering that all materials will be provided for each class, as
well as a great dinner for all. Organizing this event was not my idea
-- it was presented to me by students who repeatedly have said -- "Oh,
Ms. cat, if only you were not so far away up in Sonoma County and we
could take a class from you in the East bay. Well, here i come, with
Dr. Kioni, Ms. Dara, Ms. Tanisia, and Ms. Robin too -- so if you are
one of those who sighed over not being able to spare the time for an
apprenticeship, or moped about what an out-of-the-way place
Forestville is, and how we don't offer hands-on classes, well, now is
the time to make your move. This is what so many have asked for -- a
full day of personal instruction by some of the best professional root
doctors in America.
Here's the information, and if you can't use it yourself, please do
pass it along to others. Thanks!

I really want to attend the workshop, I'm just concerned about the
cost of travel and lodging. Is there an affordable lodging place that
you might recommend?
Thanks and blessings,

Sindy, I look forward to meeting you. I think this will be a once in a

are willing to teach it, especially if you dont live in the South East. I
am coming out a couple of days early to attend.

I used to live in the gay resort town of Guerneville, just around the
corner from Forestville, so I like to visit the Highlands there:

A bedroom in a shared cabin under the redwoods is only $70, with fresh

(For the Lucky Mojo / Cat's Birthday / Hoodoo Party on May 3rd or the Workshop on May 4th, it is potluck, so bring what you like.
For the Ms. Robin Presents workshop classes in Alameda on May 4th, a sit-down meal is supplied in the form of a traditional Southern Soul Food dinner with all the fixings, which means that there will be non-meat sides, as well as fried chicken, so you can do like at your grandma's house and just eat the sides. No potluck at the workshop, please. --cat)

Hello Happy Hoodooers!
Marilyn and I look forward to renewing fellowship and establishing new
friendships at Lucky Mojo and in Alameda. I feel an excitement about
this weekend and believe wonderful things are going to occur. When
people of good will and like minds gather, an egregore is created in
the spirit realm. Let us agree to see each other through eyes of
unconditional love. Let us agree to support each other with unwavering
faith. Come expecting a positive life changing event and you won't
depart disappointed.
I encourage the setting of lights for the success of the Hoodoo Party
and the Venue in Alameda. The sad fact is there will always be someone
that comes to "throw" down. There are others who are jealous and full
of envy -they may not have guts enough to show up, but will "throw"
magic from a distance. So, I am appealing to our friends to "have our
backs" magically.
See you soon! ~ Dr. Kioni

>>>Hello Dr K, Cat and all,
I too am VERY excited to be packing my bags today and feel extremely
blessed to be able to attend this weekend. It took a lot of work for
me to get to manifest everything it took to get to go. My heart is
filled with happiness to finally get to meet many of you and to share
some laughs, stimulating conversation and a little food. Yesterday I
had a quick call from Nagasiva and both he and I were giggling with
excitment! Nothing like a good party with your dear community! I pray
for safe travel for all and St. Michael is definitely standing by to
guard and protect. X Sindy Todo (G564).

Re: 2008: May 3-4 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops
May 8, 08
The sweet, acrid scent of cigar smoke wafts through the air as Congo music transports my spirit into a dimension where I walk with powerful spiritual beings between worlds. Client's hoodoo and Palo ritual pots overflow the altars and floor space before my Nganga. I am now back in my home-temple-munanso after an enjoyable, busy and fascinating event filled weekend at the Lucky Mojo Curio Company -LMCC in Forestville CA and The Home of Truth Spiritual Church in Alameda CA. I knew this weekend would be special however special hardly describes the experience.
My wife Marilyn and I arrived in Oakland, CA early Friday evening minus our luggage although it was delivered in the wee morning hours to our hotel. After crossing the San Francisco Bay we soon were cruising through rolling hills of green lush vineyards. Our drive into the Napa Valley wine country where Lucky Mojo is located was pleasant and enjoyable. Marilyn and I recalled our visit in August of 2007 and her visit to the Korbel Winery about fifth teen minutes away from Lucky Mojo. We were both excited and eagerly anticipated seeing cat, shiva, the Lucky Mojo staff and client/friends from around the world.
When you turn off Covey Rd. onto the LMCC property the chaotic world you know is left behind. I have heard others say it is like stepping into another time and space. The setting is rural and rustic. Trees, rose bushes and flowers form a labyrinth around two cobblestone paths extending 30 - 50 yards from the small dirt parking area to the shop and residence of cat and siva. The roses are blooming; vines are climbing and clinging to tree branches forming a semi-solid canopy overhead in many places - the foliage is lush, green and colorful. At first you don't know where the stone paths are leading as they twist and wind through a magical garden of enchantment.
The Missionary Independent Spiritual Church sanctuary rises majestically and mystically above the foliage. In it are dozens of 6 day condition candles set for clients around the world seeking spiritual and magical help. Daily candle lighting services are conducted in a sacred and mystical manner with the sounding of an ancient gong. Ahead a few yards beyond the church, the Lucky Mojo shop beckons you enter a strange, fascinating world of hoodoo, rootwork where nothing is as it seems and everything and anything is
possible.
The shop was abuzz with activity Saturday morning when Marilyn and I
arrived. Several people were already waiting for my arrival to have rootwork consultations with me. I am always humbled and thrilled to meet my clients and fans of the Lucky Mojo Hoodoo Rootwork Hour. Cat looking very much like Morticia from the old sitcom the "Addams Family" buzzed around in command, directing, redirecting, instructing, sometimes cussin' and loving all. Her husband the ever present and graceful siva looking like one of the ZZ Top front men slips silently about like a spirit. Siva is a gentle, warm hearted soul. He is always ready to serve however he is needed and when you least expect him, like Lurch (the cryptic butler) on the "Addams Family", he instantly appears anticipating your need before you know you have a need. Case in point: we were filming hoodoo instructional videos on Monday at the shop. The television lights on the set were hot and I had just completed filming a segment. Suddenly I felt a presence next to me - it was siva with a cold bottle of water. "I thought you might need this. I know these lights are hot" he said. Everyone always gives props to cat and she well deserves them, however siva too deserves accolades and thanks for making this weekend a memorable success.
Saturday's Hoodoo Party was a fabulous success! Although I was in the
sanctuary of the Missionary Independent Church doing readings from noon until 6pm, I was not oblivious to the energy of the excitement and activity.
Professional film directors Romell Ayo and Ms. Nadezda Karuna were busy shooting footage of various activities, my consultations and interviewing people for an upcoming hoodoo documentary. A lot of footage was filmed and instructional DVDs featuring myself, Tanisia Greer, cat, Johannes, Ms. Dara and others will be available at a later date. The time passed quickly for me as I slipped between worlds in the sanctuary where dozens upon dozens of candles representing clients blazed. Jasmine incense filled the air of the "World's Smallest Church" as I read those who scheduled sessions with me. Before I knew it six hours had passed and I finally was able to join the festivities.
We sat around in the cool California evening on stone benches surrounding tables scattered around the Lucky Mojo campus. Sindy Todo and others provided delicious food and we all resembled satisfied cats that ate the canary! Practically everyone present wore some type of amulet jewelry and individual eclectic taste painted a mystical collage worthy of Rembrandt's talents. Witches, warlocks, neophytes, sorcerers, astrologers, writers, two headed conjure doctors, college professors and more blended together to weave a rich tapestry celebrating hoodoo, rootwork and our beloved cat's birthday. We joked, we laughed, we cajoled and teased. Conversation was rich and fellowship sweet. As the dusk of a Northern California evening settled
over the scene, fire-flies zapped around us illuminating the darkening
mystical setting like tiny fairies. Reluctantly Marilyn and I said good bye to drive back to our hotel in Oakland. Although we left Lucky Mojo behind, the magic of the campus enveloped us like a cocoon sealing us from the rest of the world.
I don't want to get into a lot of name calling but there are several people who must be mentioned. Ms. Robin, who arranged the Hoodoo Workshops at the beautiful Home of Truth Metaphysical Center, in Alameda deserves mad props. She single-handedly cooked for the dozens of workshop participants in additional to dozens of other responsibilities. A better location for the venue could not have been chosen and Ms. Robin, plus her family members, worked tirelessly and selfishly to serve all. We love you Ms. Robin. Expect a blessing from the Universe because you sowed a lot of good seeds. Buzzing about pitching in were several anonymous volunteers plus celebrated practitioners Ms. Dara, Sindy Todo, Tanisia Greer, Johannes Gardback from Sweden with his beautiful pregnant wife Benedikte. There is nothing more beautiful than a woman pregnant with child and Benedikte has a Madonna like glow and radiance.
Arriving at the Home of Truth Spiritual Church in Alameda Sunday afternoon Marilyn and I were immediately impressed by the quaint, idyllic setting of this historic facility. A garden of blooming flowers displaying every color of the rainbow graces the front and sides of the facility. It is a holy place and all that enter soon felt the vibrations of sacredness and magical possibilities. People from all walks of life filled the sanctuary in anticipation. After a brief delay, cat got the workshops off to a dynamic start with her presentation on Astrology in Hoodoo. Afterwards groups of workshop participants flowed between meeting rooms upstairs and the courtyard for individual workshops. Tanisia Greer wowed everyone with her presentation on Spiritual Foot Washing; Ms. Dara educated and inspired eager participants about Candle Magic. Yours truly was privileged to teach three standing room only workshops on Making a Powerful Mojo. I quote my colleague and new friend Dr. Johannes from Sweden:
"Me and B are still talking about the way you used the bag as a pendulum and the way you spoke to charge it during the workshop and I immediately adopted the way you sealed the name papers. Very nice. Thanks for that." Dr. Johannes - The Root Doctor - Sweden
Not only did I teach but I also learned from my colleagues and lay people alike. We had so much fun making and charging mojos. It was a blast to observe the look of fascination on the faces of the workshop participants as I demonstrated how to charge a mojo. The mojo dangling from the draw string between my fingers and held over money drawing incense took on a life of its own. Slowly the mojo began to move in an elliptical orbit much like the planets around the sun. No one could deny the mystical powers at work as the spirit of the herbs; roots and minerals obeyed my command. My arm did not move as I rested it on the table nor did my hand move. The mojo's voluntary movement is an indication it is alive and accepting the charge of intent.
Participants were able to choose from several herbs, roots and minerals to make a love, money or court case mojo hand. Later on Sunday night, we would consecrate the mojos and candles during a life changing and empowering mystical church service.
As most people know, I am a former pastor of five churches represented by The Church of the Nazarene and Assemblies of God. I am a Bible College and seminary trained minister who moves in the Gifts of the Spirit as mentioned in 1st Corinthians of the New Testament. The Bible states "the gifts and calling of God are without repentance" meaning if one has been chosen by Spirit - God -ALL; escape is futile. Just ask Jonah!
After a brief introduction by cat and selection by Ms. Robin, I ascended the platform. Before me were eager faces anticipating something extraordinary but not quite sure what to expect. This was the first official meeting of our Missionary Independent Spiritual Church and my first official act as one of the presiding Bishops.
Invoking the Presence of Spirit - God -ALL with a classical rendition of "The Lord's Prayer" the Holy Spirit's anointing settled on me and the shekinah glory of All Mighty God filled the temple. I could sense our African ancestors that brought hoodoo, rootwork, conjure to America lookin at the multiracial, multicultural audience before me with eager amusement.
Speaking from Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" the Holy Spirit spoke through me. "Stop lusting for results" your faith is both the substance and evidence of the thing you seek to manifest. You could not first desire the thing unless it was already in existence within the realm of spirit. The desire to manifest is the echo of that thing or experience calling to you". Manifesting is not difficult I explained as I shared examples of manifesting from my life."You don't have to be a Christian to use the Name of Jesus nor the scriptures of the Bible in hoodoo" I said. "God is no respecter of persons and will always honor the Word and the Name of Jesus. There is no other Name
give in heaven nor on earth whereby men can be saved". Non believers have worked hoodoo and used the Psalms for centuries thus obtaining magical results. Why, because the Word is alive and quicker than any two edged sword. It doesn't matter what spiritual path you embrace - the Name of Jesus is Universal and every knee in heaven and earth must bow before it. Every principality, dominion and power is subject to the Name. So, do your work in the Name of the Father, in the Name of the Son, in the Name of the Holy Spirit - In Jesus Name and you will have great success. If you have faith to use the Psalms in hoodoo, rootwork and conjure, why not have faith in the Almighty Name of Jesus" ?
The message was well received and we laughed, cried and rejoiced. Finally it was time to consecrate the candles and mojos. Cat, siva, Ms. Tanisia and Marilyn joined me on the platform as the prayer of consecration was prayed.
I was then led to bless individuals in the old fashion faith healing manner and a prayer line was assembled. The prayer line stretched from across the platform and up the aisles of the church. The altars were decorated beautifully with white flowers supplied by Ms. Robin and provided their purifying presence to this holy event.
Like thousands of times before I was submerged deep in the anointing and began to speak and pray heavily in tongues. As individuals passed before me I laid my hands on their heads to impart the heavenly, magical virtue flowing through me. Time and again the Word of Knowledge was sharper than a razor blade. People expressed amazement as I told them of events and desires they anticipated but unknown to me before hand. Tears flowed, ladies swooned and men were visibly moved as the Spirit of God flowed through me. Lives were changed, destinies altered and prayers answered Sunday night. The Spirit moved exceedingly beyond what we could ask or think. It was a Divine seal of approval we are on the right path and doing the right thing. God
honored our efforts. The ancestors blessed our efforts and the spirits of light supported us. If God be for us - who can stand against us?
Thank you for the honor of praying with you and for the privileged of
knowing you all. We are just getting started and the best is yet to come.

(Thank you, Dr. K., for that glowing report on the weekend's activities. You were a dynamic, charismatic, and magetizing presence who brought down the house -- and the Holy Spirit.
I would also like to call out thanks to Marylin and to siva for their helpful kindliness to us, their mates; to Holly Greenwood for the beautiful birthday cake and for working hard on Sunday morning to get us packed up; to Johannes and Benedikte for helping to pre-stock the shop for the party and open house by making oils and for packing and lugging things around; to Fred Burke for cheerfully assuming the role he used to play at Eclipse Comics when he and i would run around getting ready for comic book conventions, including dashing off to Kinko's to pick up flyers at the last minute; and to Sienna Baratti of Missionary Independent Spiritual Church for her calm, sweet helpfulness to all, including running the Lucky Mojo mini-shop between workshop sessions on Sunday.
The Lucky Mojo crew worked long, hard hours to get things cleaned up and in shape -- Vida Cleveland, Susie Bosselmann, Reggie Burford, Heidi Simpson, Ernie Medeiros, and Karl Schoelles being especially helpful -- and Loben Simmons pitched in to help his sister Vida and ended up getting hired for a permanent job at the shop.
Nadezda Karuna Potter and Romell Ayo did wonderful and inobtrusive work as filmmakers; Tanisia was a remarkably well prepared, beautiful, and encouraging teacher; Sindy Todo outdid her cooking of two years ago with a fantastic beans and rice dish; Dara Anzlowar was a true friend who stayed very late at the shop on Saturday in order to prepare for her beautiful workshop on candle magic and then presented the workshop in a beautifully sincere manner.
Above all, Ms. Robin deserves the credit for arranging the hiring of the Home of Truth venue, for chaufuering workshop presenters, for making the floral arrangements, for catering the affair, for giving a wonderful dinner-tie talk on luck, and for cleaning up afterwards, with her helpers Lisa and Angelique.
There were so many guests and worskshop participants who also helped us out, brought gifts for me, or cheered us on in one way or another, that i want to thank them all as well -- you folks were great, and you made this whole event a wonderful experience from start to finish.
And if i left out anyone's name, please remind me, because i certainly did not mean to do so!

Re: 2008: May 3-4 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops
Somewhat recovered from the jetlag and adjustments taking place whenever crossing the Atlantic I just got time to reflect on the past week.
As always it was wonderful to meet the extended family again and be embraced by their love and hospitality. Cat and Siva, thank you.
It was also nice to once again set foot in that very special house and the spirits inhabiting it.
A lot better than my first night where one of the spirits amused himself with sending me a
dream in which my arm was cut off and resewn back on facing the wrong way.
A truly haunted house in the very best sense and I love it a lot.
Meeting all the Doctors, Tantes, Missises, practitioners, making new friends during the wonderful party and learning some new neat tricks at the historic workshop makes it all a memory worth telling my grandchildren to come.
" -You were there? Really? Are you making things up again, Grandfather?"
"- No I was really there. Your grandmother were there as well and so was your mother.", I will answer.
I also learned a lot about the cultural differences and rules that are not that apparent at first glance. For example I watched as my beloved Benedikte, who came pregnant but as a hoodoo practitioner in her own right and a person of great power and ability being reduced to being just "My wife".
In a moment of temporary humorus insanity I suggested a muslim Burka might be suitable for her to wear next time. The "Madonna" did not find that as amusing and I fear my daughter inside also took mark from it and I will have to pay forever in the matriarcal society that constitues my life.
But besides that I also became aware of how folk magic in general and Hoodoo in particular are interpreted differently depending on both origin and location af the practitioner. The outer form might be the same but the approach, intrinsic attitude and the parameters of valuation seems very different dispite the fact it has not neccesarily even left the borders of western culture.
A study on this might be interesting to see in the future.
Lastly I came to realize that the Hoodoo course I once joined is growing and developing into something beyond and far, far more interesting than I could ever have imagined.
Again, thanks to all that came for making such a great story to tell my grandchildren.
#321 (G)(GA) Dr. Johannes Gardback
PS. I suggest the word "Caul" should be removed from the English language completely.
(;-) That last, folks, is a private joke among those who were present when Romell was filming Dr. Johannes as he desrcibed how to make a toby for a baby -- but i will let you all in on the reference. Johannes was talking about the possibility of getting a piece of the umbilical cord in the bag, and also, if the baby was born with a caul or veil, to save that as well, because it is a mark of the gift of second sight and it preserves against death by drowning. However, it turns out that the sound of the word "caul" is not easily said by one of Swedish tongue. It came out to our American ears as "coil." So i asked for a reshoot and for some audio for looping -- and it was "coil," "coil," "coil" repeatedly, until we were cracking up and i was actually laying on the floor laughing. He finally got it -- and later got back at me by asking if i still remembered how to pronounce his last name -- which i didn't, of course. I was saying Guard-Back instead of Gourd-Beck. He, that's what dialect coaches are for.

Thank you Dr. Kioni for your most interesting, and very well written
report of this event.
As a newcomer, it makes me want to be at the next one! You said a few
things about faith and hoodoo that are most inspiring, uplifting and
encouraging (see quote below) and I thank you for this. You show how
much there is that can be accomplished on this path. Thank you again.
Blessings to you and all here,

Re: 2008: May 3-4 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops
Hi gang!
I also want to express my gratitude for a wonderful weekend with the "extended family."
It was such a pleasure to finally put faces to names and experience first hand the vibrant energy of so many of you.
I am also grateful for the opportunity to serve our community as a videographer, and am extremely excited to know that people all around the world would have a visual hoodoo experience from the best rootworkers and practitioners.
This weekend was a mind opening experience. Although I was mainly running around with a camera attached to my head, I still managed to get a reading with Dr. K., learn some Swedish invocations and smell some Nordic oils with the wonderful Benedikte and Johannes, eat the best fried chicken in the world Ms. Robin you rock! and make new friends.
On Monday I went back to work as a reader and store clerk in a local occult shop. I was truly exhausted and didn't feel like doing readings at all... but Spirit apparently had a different plan. As soon as we opened, I had a line-up of people waiting to get a reading from me. I felt like a Ouija board Spirit was coming through as strongly as ever and people were exclaiming: "This is the best reading I've got in my life! Girl you're goooooood!" All I could do is continue reading and praising the Divine.
I guess this is what happens if one hangs out with so many rootdoctors for an extended period of time
And a special thank you to cat and nagasiva, for your wisdom, friendship, support, guidance and your beautiful open hearts!
Got to go n' pack some more now we're moving to our new apartment this weekend.
Blessings to all!

Dr. Johannes Gardback,
Johannes, there are several words I'd remove from the English language too
and "caul" would be one of them for sure. Have you heard me pronouncing the
word "ladder" before?
LOL
PS
It was awesome meeting you guys in person, and hanging out with you.
Blessings,

Dearest Cat and Group,
I've been reviewing last weekend all week. Scenarios have replayed in
my mind, I've laughed out loud, shed a few tears and sat peacefully
and processed all the energy that I felt. As many have already
commented...it was an extraordinary weekend.
I can still see Cat running out of the shop to greet me and that
embrace will sustain me for many a month. We came from the
same "litter" in some life, so touching each other is very natural
and soothing to my soul. We truly feed off each other in a very
spiritual way and when I'm in Forestville...all is right.
The house welcomed me and opened its arms allowing me to move about
like old times, listening to the radio (Benedicta's country channel
selection) and that sweet old stove worked like a champ. I'm very
comfortable with the spirits in the house; they really like the smell
of home cooking.
Having my dearest Holly Greenwood with me just made everything more
perfect! She is like smelling rich soil, green grass and fragrant
flowers, so earthy and warm. I love just being near her. I hardly
have to articulate a sentence, she communicates so easily with my
spirit. Thank you Holly, for your tireless help and attention, I'll
speak with you soon...
Receiving for me is somewhat difficult as I am a person who
specializes in being "in service". However, I have met my match. Most
precious, devoted, server of the Goddess, Nagasiva seriously can get
to me hands down better than anyone! This man is like a tall Bamboo
reed, strong as all get out, but flexible, peaceful, a brilliant
communicator and he's all packaged with the most endearing, lovely
smile and breathtaking eyes. He was there for me when I needed
anything and managed to balance all the demands of the weekend like
it was nothing! God Bless you and keep you my dear friend. I am truly
on my knees with gratitude for the care and love you extended to all
of us and the example of devotion you show to Cat humbles me. I have
learned about love from you this past weekend, thank you from deep in
my heart...
I can't begin to express how wonderful it was to meet my dearest Dara
and Dr. Kioni. We have had several years of great conversations, both
have mentored me along the way from time to time and I'm so blessed
to have absorbed and reflect their knowledge on some level, in my
work. You are so gracious, lovely and generous, yet you have
perfectly integrated a commanding presence that I know now why folks
are so drawn to you both. It's a beautiful thing! As always, you will
remain constant in my prayers and my thanks are genuine and with all
my love for all that we share.
Robin, "best girl", you out did yourself and your tireless work was
so obvious! Thank you for feeding me and for those precious 10
minutes we got to share in the kitchen. I felt like I was with my
Auntie and she made me eat my beans and greens before I left her
house...so good!
I so enjoyed meeting all of you, Tanisia with her loving embrace and
brilliant presentation; it was so strong for me and set my feet in a
beautiful blessed place before I had to leave to come home. Karuna
and Rommel you are both so gifted in your art(s), can't wait to speak
with you again soon and see your work! All the boys that hung with me
outside, Chris, Eddy, Brian, James and most wonderful sweet Ed, best
bean eater of the weekend...please stay in touch; you all really
touched a special place in my soul.
Thank you, all the staff at LMC for always making me feel so special, for picking me up, Eileen, and being so efficient and helpful, for Vida who tirelessly ran for every little thing and for bringing my clients to see me! You are the Best! And all the other friends and fellow rootworker, Susan Diamond, little sister, you're on my list to contact! Blessings to you all!
Johannes and Benedikte, it was so hard to say goodbye to you two. I
simply can't say how honored I was to meet you and to know that God
has placed such brilliant beings on this earth for us to interact
with. I will never be the same having met you both; for I know we all
received some amazing healing from simply standing in your light.
Please give us plenty of time to plan when your next trip to the
states will be and my prayers are being said for your daughter to
arrive with ease and in the best of health!
Finally, my sweet Cat, as I remember holding your hands right before
I left and you gave your candle to me; I wish you the most wonderful
birthday ever on Monday the official day, the 12th. Thank you for
opening your home, your arms, that brilliant mind for us all to peek
into again and for just continuing to teach us more. My candle is on
my altar and I feel just like it: blessed, glittered and all charged
up and ready to go.
Always my Best, Sindy Todo (G564)
(Lova ya, Sindy, it was wonderful to see you and to receive food from your hands. You are the best. --cat)

Dear everyone.
Back home and back into everyday work and play. (and recovered from jetlag, finally)
It's hard to find any words that can express the emotions I had when I realized that I had
left a whole lot of wonderful human beings at the other side of the globe.
I feel så grateful to have met you all. You made this week a truly magical week for me,
filling all my senses with smell , music, warmth, tastes and true precence, all contributing
to deepening my understabding of hoodoo and rootwork.
It was so inspiering, and even it is a week ago since we left Forestville, it feels like I am
still there. In the house, in the shop and walking around in the garden.
Thank you so much Cat and Nagasiva. From the bottom of my heart ;for your inspiration,
your energy and for making me feel I had a spiritual home away from home.
(Give me a hint if you want the "full" set of Gods and Goddesses- oils..I still have more to
come I think, even if I do not have the same wonderful eqipment as in Lucky Mojo:-)
Warm hugs!
