Hello and blessings to all.
My name is Yemayá and I am over the Moon to be on the LM forum. To quote the poet Sonia Sanchez, I am a blue, Black, magickal woman who has studied various earth-loving, ancestor-honoring magickal traditions, shamanic, and healing traditions. I am a Druidic high priestess who "retired" after 20+ years in the American Rite. An avid gardener who grows many of my family vegetables, I adore growing flowers and herbs too. I never saw a rose I didn't like! An animal lover, I live with 3 cats, a snake, and a miniature dacshound. We hold fond memories of our dearly departed tortoise, parakeets, and other cats who have crossed over in years gone by.
I am a first generation American. My Jamaican heritage exposed me to Obeah, the Jamaican folk magic. What little I know of it, I learned from my grandmother, a pious evangelical, fundamentalist Christian who had the Sight, and taught me much of the herbsl knowlege of the "obeah woman", while all the while warning me of the inherent danger of "vexing" the obeah woman, the duppies, or the Spirits. My mother also has the Sight, although she would deny it. I learned quite a bit about herbal healing from both my mother and my grandmother, although so many of the herbs had Jamaican names and sometimes it can be a challenge to find out what they are called here in America.
I practice natural healing, using herbs, massage, Reiki, yoga, laying on of hands, and proper nutrition. I have always used herbs in my magickal workings and spell-casting. I attended last month's Hoodoo Heritage Festival, met some amazing and fascinating people, and enjoyed the worshops so much. I look forward to learning more about Hoodoo, its rich history, and its power to give mastery over one's life.
Thank you for this extraordinary opportunity to learn and grow. I look forward to interacting with you. Bless up!
