Gods, Angels, Spirits, and Saints on Amulets, Charms, and Talismans

Unread post by lucky7clover » Sun Jun 07, 2009 5:09 pm

I have this small basket, about an inch in height and width with tiny figures of the 7 Japanese Lucky Gods inside (they're quite small). This is something I forgot that I had. This morning I noticed that one of the Gods fell out of the basket (which I kept inside a box)... so I put him back into the small basket. Today at work, I realized that I had so much luck! First of all, I was monitored (i work at a call center and our phone calls are listened to and we are graded on how we serviced the customer), and I ended up getting 105% because the customer was so thankful on how much I helped her. Secondly, I upselled three items today... and on a weekly basis, I normally get around 6 or 7. And then Thirdly, I got to go home a half an hour early. I felt super lucky.

I swear I saw something on Lucky Mojo site that mentioned the 7 Lucky Gods of Japan. I can't seem to find it now. The little figurines that I have are not even concencrated, so I was surprised that just by touching one, I obtained luck. So I'm definitely going to concencrate them now!

I don't know that much about then but I believe the laughing Buddha is/was one of them, Hoti if memory serves. Lucky Mojo has this : http://www.luckymojo.com/oil-japanese-lucky-7.html Hope that helps. And congratulations on all your luck, hope it keeps up.

Actually I ended up looking for information on the 7 Japanese Gods of Luck... and tried to figure out which one was the one that I touched and it was Hotei Buddha. Here's a list of them:

Ebisu - God of Fishermen, Good Luck, Commerce and Honest Labor
Daikokuten - God of Earth, Wealth, Prosperity, Farmers, Flood control and The Kitchen
Benten - Goddess of Music. Fine Arts, Eloquence and Literature
Hotei - God of Contentment and Happiness
Fukurokuju - God of Wisdom, Longevity, Verility and Fertility
Juroujin - God of Longevity
Bishamonten - God of Treasure, War, and Warriors

Ironically, the 7 Lucky Gods of Japan are not all from Japan. Ebisu is the only deity with Japanese origin. Three are from Hindu-Buddhist pantheon from India (Dikokuten, Benten and Bishamonten) and the other three are from the Chinese Taoist- Buddhist traditions (Hotei, Fukurokuju, and Jurojin). What I found funny was that Benten, in Hinduism is actually Sarasvati. Sarasvati loves literature and knowledge and she is said to guard libraries.

And I also found some information of the significance of the number 7 in Japan. Ancient Japan was founded around seven districts. In Japanese folklore, there are seven treasures and seven deities of good luck. Japanese Buddhists believe people are reincarnated only seven times, and seven weeks of mourning are prescribed following death.

Quite interesting, which sounds like it connects to Hoodoo is on the night of January 2nd, place a picture of the 7 deities aboard their "Treasure ship" or Takarabune underneath your pillow. And if you have a lucky dream that night, you will have luck for the entire year.

I just ordered the Sarasvati Sachet Powder to help me progress with my singing every time I practice.

I was looking through the catalog and saw a Sarasvati Pendandt, and I am very tempted to buy it. Is it a good idea?

Devi Spring told me in another forum regarding the powder "If you are a devotee of Saraswati and know how to work with her, then yes that could very well aid you". I have read up on her and done research also, but how exactly can I get Sarasvati to have a positive effect on me whenever I sing?

And should I go through with buying pendant?

I would really like to carry something related to her around with me.

Sounds like a personal choice annette2009. Since you are still contemplating, schedule a reading to verify your concerns.

Sarasvati is the Hindu goddess of music and the pendant is both pretty and inexpensive. Your choice, but it could work for you, yes.

It sounds like a good idea to me. You could also get the Sarasvati oil from LM and annoint the pendant with it. I would also annoint a candle for her and pray to her.

Do research on her and find out her favorite things and make an offering to her. Sing her a song!

Good luck!

If you are able to burn a vigil light, get the Sarasvati vigil, which already dressed with oil, herbs, and prayer. Otherwise order a dozen white candles and the Sarasvati oil, so you always have a candle on hand. The oil would be good to have on hand for dressing the amulet, as corazon suggested, and you could wear it as a personal fragrance.

If you wish to work with her on an ongoing basis, perhaps as Patroness of your artistic endeavors, then you may wish to hire an workers who is familiar with Eastern methods to provide you with magical coaching on establishing a practice with her. It will definitely deepen your work with her!

Working with any of the Hindu deities or holy figures is a process that takes time and devotion. Sarasvati is a wonderful aid to petition in assistance with singing, art, music, dance, and any work that involves art, culture, and beauty. Since you are a singer wearing a pendant near your throat chakra is an especially love and appropriate idea. If you are planning to form a relationship with her, I would create an altar to her complete with the offerings that she prefers. You can use images and colors that are appropriate to her iconography as well!

good luck,

Lucky elephants need to have their trunks up. Should their trunks be pointing toward the door (to call in luck) or away from the door (so luck walks in with them)? I've heard both and would be interested to hear what people believe.

I have heard of the trunks up idea, but it is by no means consistent. Sri Ganesh, the Hindu Elephant God, who among other things does bring in luck, is featured in a variety of poses, usually with his trunk down. With that said, this is pretty off topic for our board so let's stick to Hoodoo, Lucky Mojo, and if you have specific question about amulets, charms, seals, papers, and jewelry we will be happy to assist!

Lucky Mojo has a web page discussing lucky elephants

The lucky elephant charm is a deliberate bit of cultural exoticism found in America and Europe. Historically linked to to the era …
www.luckymojo.com/elephant.html

So I didn't think it would be off topic ... Sorry

Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, is often pictured with elephants, usually with the trunk up. Lucky Mojo carries Lakshmi and Ganesh candles, oils, incense, sachet powders, and bath crystals, so I would say this topic is OK for this forum.

I was told by a Hindu to keep a statue of Ganesha facing the front door to draw in luck. That was specific to that tradition, so I don't know about lucky elephants in general. For me it is an extension of my ongoing devotional relationship with Sri Ganesha, and I have found it to be effective.

I was taught that you place the elephants facing to the inside of the house. So luck and wealth follows them in.

I have a silver St. Michael medal that I wear around my neck on a silver chain. I have anointed it with oil, smoked it in incense, and prayed over it in order to consecrate it as a protection amulet with the grace of St. Michael. Every Sunday I burn a St. Michael candle for one hour and give him my thanks for the honors he has paid me (as well as making a donation to a battered women's shelter in his name). One interesting note about this medal and chain is, right before I consecrated the medal and began wearing it, I had started a 13 day course of the thirteen herb bath in order to remove some negative spiritual detritus from my family that I was being oppressed by. I still had a few days left when I started wearing the medal. Within a week of first wearing it, the medal and the chain turned nearly black with tarnish. I dipped them both in a baking soda/boiling water/aluminum foil bath to antioxidize the silver, spiritually cleansed it and reconsecrated. It hasn't tarnished again, but I wear it constantly (except in the shower). I digress...

My question is, my medal keeps turning around so that St. Michael is facing me instead of outward as it's always done before. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with some minor revenge work I did recently on a family member (one of the ones who was creating the unbearable environment I mentioned in the paragraph above). When I was finally able to escape their immediate surroundings, I prayed to St. Michael to protect me and give me justice. St. Michael came through in a fairly big way, and I got a little carried away trying to keep that ball rolling. I wonder if he might be a teeny bit upset that I passed justice and entered revenge territory? Or am I reading too much into this? If not, what would you all suggest I do?

Thanks!

I've always been told that after doing any sort of so-called "negative" work, you should cleanse as soon as possible. The tradition I've been taught is to use Hyssop in the bath and recite the 51st Psalm (I think that's the right one, where it actually talks about having one's sins cleaned away by hyssop).

You said you worked aggressively to cleanse yourself of the negativity from your family, but did you cleanse from the energy of the revenge work? I don't know what kind of work you did, but perhaps the tarnishing of the medallion was an indication of that (showing you the 'gunk' you need to take off?). He is looking to you, inside of you, because maybe that's what you need to protect or take care of before you can expect him to take care of the outside (facing outward).

Just a thought.

Although mojo bags originated with the making of hunting charms -- which tells you how long ago it started! -- most of the amulets available from Lucky Mojo are for love, money, and protection. You might not find anything that strikes you as a useful fishing charm, so you might want to make something like this:

Make a mojo bag with a lodestone and at least one fish-shaped charm. (Another charm on the outside of the bag is optional. On the one hand, it'll help you remember what it's for; on the other hand, it might tell people your business.) Dress it with Crown of Success.

Also, I believe that Devil's Shoestring has been used to paralyze fish by Native American tribes that built fish weirs, so you might want some of that in your bag. It's lucky and protective, too. Put a fishing lure in there, something bright and shiny or something designed for the species of fish that you most want to catch. And your hair, because that's an extension of yourself, and you want the fish to find you.

Dress it all with Attraction and Crown of Success. That's a modern fishing charm off the top of my head.

You'll find some more traditional work in this brief but informative thread: Best of luck,

Miss Michaele

Hi, this is cat yronwode of Lucky Mojo. I want to tell you about "How To Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans in the Hoodoo and Conjure Tradition" -- the new book i co-wrote with Papa Gee.

In just 96 pages, this super-useful book presents and illustrates more than 150 of the most popular pieces of wearable magic you are likely to encounter at a metaphysical store or online shopping site, and gives the history, lore, and legend of each one of these material objects. We designed it for beginners and practitioners alike, to act as a handy introduction manual and practical field guide to the powerful charms, roots, minerals, and lucky pieces that are carried or worn in hoodoo and other worldwide folk-magical practices.

"How To Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans in the Hoodoo and Conjure Tradition" is at press now and will go on sale to the public in mid-September -- but here's the sweet deal -- a copy is included at no extra charge with your ticket to the 2021 Virtual Hoodoo Heritage Festival, September 11-12, 2021, where Papa Gee will give an extensive in-person workshop on what the book is all about.

• Animal Mascots and Fetishes
• Stone and Crystal Amulets
• Herb and Root Curios
• Enchanted Jewelry
• Zodiacal Gemstones
• Empowered Key Rings
• Talismanic Seals and Sigils
• Lucky Charms and Lockets
• Reliquaries and Prayer Papers

Study with Papa Gee and learn how to identify, select, prepare, and consecrate your own magical and metaphysical jewelry. He will teach you the difference between charms, amulets, and talismans, and show you how to wear or carry them in your everyday life to bring romance, good luck, protection, wealth, health, success, victory, and love. You will learn how to enchant talismanic jewelry and how to decommission unwanted talismans -- and you will have this book as a keepsake, to use as your personal guide to the magic of physical objects.

The entire Virtual Hoodoo Heritage Festival 2021 includes TEN HOURS of workshops and group live chat via Zoom, plus PDF lecture notes, brand new books, and a Goody Box filled with all of the conjure supplies you will need for the workshops, delivered by postal mail, for only $290.00 per ticket.

This is a preview from Papa Gee on his workshop "How To Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans in the Hoodoo and Conjure Tradition" which is to be held on Sunday, September 12th at 2:00 PM.
