It's not hoodoo, but folks here have asked that i announce new pages on
folkloric magic in general, so:
I have just written and illustrated a new page in the Lucky
W Amulet Archive: Ba Gua Feng Shui Mirrors for Protection.

Hey, cat, the new Lucky W page is protected by copyright dating only to
2003. Doubt this means it isn't protected, as my reading of the legal stuff
surrounding copyright indicates the intention to copyright extends to the
date of creation, but thought you might want to update your template anyhoo.
HollyWindsongGreenwood
(You are so right! I haven't updated that template in a long time, but i hope to find some time to do a global update on all my pages -- or perhaps i can hire someone with the time to do it for me in exchange for money. --cat)

Ba Gua, Yin Yang, Tai Chi, Feng Shui Charms and Amulets
I just ordered two sets, one for me and one for my aunt. I was prescribed some
mirrors to reflect stuff back.
I wonder if I could present a case I'm working on, which is my aunt. She seems to
have perennial bad money/job luck. Frankly, I wish she would do a cleansing bath
and clean the house up, but she is easily spooked. For some reason, African type-
stuff spooks her and Asian stuff doesn't--has anyone run into this?
I bought her a waving cat (Neko-Chan) for her birthday and she loves it, so that is
helping--and she did get a new job much sooner than she thought she would. Now
she is having trouble with her supervisor. She says she feels that he is watching and
criticizing and micro-managing her all the time. It is exhausting her and running
down her health.
I asked if her desk faces out and/or if he sneaks up behind her, and she said, yes, he
does sneak up behind her. I diagnosed this as a case of "eyes" and recommended
some mirrors so she could at least see him coming. I suggested the Ba-Gua mirrors,
actually, partly because they have "extra value added" and partly because when
people see them, they don't think "apotropaic charm," they think, "oh how New Agey
and exotic and trendy."
This is my first "case" so to speak, so I am hoping it goes well. If anyone has any
suggestions for ways to strengthen her up at work, that would be great. I'm not likely
to be able to persuade her to lay a trick or anything like that, but little non-
threatening charms and stuff that seems New Agey is likely to go over well.
Melissa
(Well, what you have suggested is all well and good, but this is a class for hoodoo, so a am not going to suggest anything New Agey or Asian here. You can get advice like that in my online book "The Lucky W Amulet Archive," where hundreds of charms, amulets, and talismans from all around the world are described and pictured. Now, in hoodoo rootwork, the simplest on-job protection is SALT. There are herbs that are powerful, like Slippery Elm, to obviate gossip, and Gravel Root, for steady work, but if hoodoo "spooks" her, then let Salt be your basic protective element. Pray over the Salt and ask it to protect her. Tie it up in a piece of cloth with a ribbon. If she is Jewish or Christian, give her a copy of the 37th Psalm to read. Tell her what the Salt is for and have her put it in her desk. This will be sufficient for her introduction to hoodoo. Good luck. --cat)

Thank you. The mirrors I know from Bruce Lee movies, because they can be used to protect against evil, but what are the beads used for?

The beads are protective and balance negative (yin) and positive (yang) energies. Same with the pendant.

Re: Ba Gua, Yin Yang, Tai Chi, Feng Shui Charms and Amulets
Hi,
Some days ago I met a Chinese woman and she told me to put any kind of charm to bring something good in my life in my left side and to put any kind of charm to get rid of bad energy in my right side. She told me that she got this information from an old Chinese healer.
Since that day I am carrying my mojo bag in my left side but I am not sure if this is right in Hoodoo.
Does Hoodoo has other kind of rules different than the Chinese belief?
Thank you

Re: Ba Gua, Yin Yang, Tai Chi, Feng Shui Charms and Amulets
Mojo bags are carried in various ways. Men will often carry them in a pants pocket. Women may pin them inside their bras. Or carry them in their pockets.
Hoodoo and Chinese folk magical practices are different, though Lucky Mojo does carry Chinese-related magicocultural items.
To read more about mojo bags and their use, please read this page:

Good luck,

Re: Ba Gua, Yin Yang, Tai Chi, Feng Shui Charms and Amulets
I'm Chinese and I don't apply any Chinese magical concepts/rules to my Hoodoo workings. They're separate and different practices. I concur with Miss Aida on this one - read up on the info about mojo and do what you'd need to take care of it properly.

Hi,
Thank you very much Miss Mary Bee and Colette.
Thank you very much Miss Mary Bee and Colette.
Re: Ba Gua, Yin Yang, Tai Chi, Feng Shui Charms and Amulets
Just wanted to mention if you were getting the ba gua mirrors to be careful. The reason why there are two is because one is to repel evil/bad spirits and one is to invite them in, the one that has the mirror that seems to be bumping out slightly is the one to stop the evil/bad spirits away, most people hang this by their front door. The other mirror that invites spirits in is the one where the mirror is dipped inwards, when using that one for spiritual/spell work, make sure you cleanse after. I'm not saying this is all accurate terms, but it's what I learnt from my family tradition and spell work. =)
Re: Ba Gua, Yin Yang, Tai Chi, Feng Shui Charms and Amulets
Hi Pixistix,
I have never heard of such a thing about Ba Gua Mirrors at all, and in all honesty believe that to be false. The convex mirror, the one that bows outward, to repel harmful energy. The other that is concave, hollowed inwards, absorbs negative energy and cancel it out so to speak.

Hi Papa Newt,
As I said before, I'm not saying that the terms that I mentioned to be true or accurate, it's what I learnt, being Chinese myself and having taught most of the stuff by my Si Fu (Teacher), what I mentioned about the Ba Gua are very old traditions and beliefs, and some Chinese people still believe it, however I have never owned any Ba Gua nor do I intend to, my grandparents have one in their home and I was always told to never touch it. Anyway, I don't expect everyone to believe it, it's just what I was told =)

Re: Ba Gua, Yin Yang, Tai Chi, Feng Shui Charms and Amulets
Good Morning Pixistix,
It is interesting how different areas of the world (and even different areas of a country) have different ideas about how to work magic, amulets, etc.!!
Even the very small country of Cuba (where my family is from) have different ideas about how to work things, omens, etc.
I tend to go with what my immediate family taught me. And, when it comes to Hoodoo (or any other teachings from Miss cat), I will go with what Miss cat has taught all of us. So, it's just a matter of what we believe to be in our hearts.
But, it is ALWAYS great to hear what other cultures (and sub-cultures) believe and practice.
So, thank you for sharing this information with us! We really do appreciate it!
Take care

The number one important thing is that all bagua containing mirrors of any kind is to be used outdoors ONLY!! Never, EVER EVER use a mirrored bagua indoors!!
