2017: May 13-14 MISC Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshops

Unread post by loyal_stranger » Wed Feb 22, 2017 6:23 am

There has not been a thread for the 2017 festival, so I hope people see this.

Image

Just curious if there is anyone who might be interested in sharing a hotel room (females, or gay males, preferably, unless you're super hot and straight LOL) to cut down on costs? I have to fly in from Michigan, if I come so which will be quite costly for me and I'm assuming there are others in a similar predicament. Let me know if you're interested, I am going to hold off a few days before reserving a room.

Also - which would be the preferred airport to fly into? I have free Spirit miles that I could use but there doesn't seem to be any airport that they use that is close to there so I may just fly into San Francisco using my air miles and purchase a ticket from there to the closer airport. I feel like I heard Santa Rosa on one of the radio shows, but I can't recall for sure.

I have been debating whether or not to come for a while, but the secret socks have convinced me LOL

Thanks!!

Oh my gosh!

THANK YOU, loyal_stranger. I have been so busy i forgot to start a thread on this year's 2017 Hoodoo Heritage Festival -- well, better now than never

The web page is here:

https://hoodooheritagefestival.com/hood ... -2017.html

First, to reply to your questions --

This thread (and the Facebook page for the 2017) are good places to post about your interest in a lodging roommate. We cannot oversee such arrangements of course, but many people do successfully make them. Also, there are AIR Bn'B houses in the area, in addition to hotels and motels.

Best airport? That depends on where you are and the airline you choose. Rest assured that Oakland and San Francisco are about equally distant in terms of driving times in a rental car. The actual "closest" airport is, however, Santa Rosa, as you noticed, and if you want to, you can indeed fly in there; you will still need to arrange transportation to Forestville, however. This is where hooking up with friends comes in handy, as some people go in on a rental car together as well as shared lodging. We are a community, and we really encourage the making of friendships in this realm of shared interest in African American folklore and folk magic.

The Secret Socks will be fun, trust me. Other fun things are on the schedule as well.

Looking forward to seeing you ...

Just booked my flight and tickets! If anyone is interested in room-sharing and/or car rental sharing, please let me know. I am arriving to the Oakland airport at 12:18PM on Friday the 12th. Leaving Monday the 15th at 6:04PM from the same airport. Don't have a hotel yet so I am willing to share with someone already booked or I will book within the next week.

Hi, loyal_stranger -- check in with Heidi SImpson at the shop to see if she knows of anybody with a spare room to rent for the weekend or looking for a room share. Also consider air b'n'b -- some are closer than the nearest hotel and motels.

Bone reader and author David Shi is going for the furthest distance attendee award.

He'll need a ride on Monday from Forestville to the international terminal at San Francisco SFO. Is anyone headed that way? If so, please let me know via email and I will hook you up! deaconmillett@fouraltars.com

I think this is as close to a "random chat" category as we have!

Thanks, deaconmillet, for asking around for me. While this is up, I also want to ask if anyone is potentially available for driving FROM San Francisco SFO to to Forestville or the surrounding area on Thursday afternoon. I will be bringing a lot of stock and goodies up for Lucky Mojo, so a carpool up would be more convenient than the public transport I'm cautiously considering to take with my potentially over-sized suitcase XD. If anyone is available for either to help me out, please let deaconmillet or myself know. Thanks, and can't wait to see everybody! :D

Hello, loabeliever ,

I, on the other hand, recommend bringing a small notebook and pen.

Although you will have some handouts, you never know what extra information that you might get from the presentations that are neither in the books nor in the handouts.

OR you may want to take notes as you browse the store and put things on your wish list!

Take care

Greetings, everyone.

I hope you are in good spirits. If you purchase a ticket for the entire weekend, does it include the banquet on Friday? Thank you, and have a wonderful day!

Hello, Solaris,

The Presenters' Banquet is on Saturday, not Friday, and it is a separate event which costs extra, but ... it's sold out. The restaurant only was able to seat 65 people.

Sorry!

Hello,

We are coming from San Francisco and have never been to Forestville. Even with a high of 67 and 69 for each day of the festival, should we count on the weather being somewhat chilly? Also, will we have access to bathrooms or port-a-potties?

Thank you so much and I look forward to the weekend!

Hello Shine8

For the weather I would plan to be prepared for whatever mother nature might be willing to bring! IF you think it might be chilly I would dress for that. There are bathrooms available there as well.

Peace~

Hi everyone, (this is Diana Preskitt)..
I had a wonderful time! Can you believe I've lived right here in Sonoma County since 1999 and not until last year did I even know about LMCCo! It's kinda embarrassing and i can't believe it myself.
I wanted to post some testimonies for the awesome workshops I was blessed enough to attend.. is there a thread for them that I'm not seeing??
