Salutations! from Waleska

Unread post by WRosario » Mon Jan 30, 2023 1:18 pm

Hi! My name is Waleska, I am a Dominican woman living in Dallas, Texas. Ever since I can remember, I have been fascinated by magic and the occult. Having been born in a very traditional Catholic country, my interest was always deemed as something bad or "satanic". That didn't prevent me from reading and investigating different traditions, but I never could muster the courage to start practicing. Once I moved to the USA, I meet some Wicca practitioners, and even though I felt interest towards their teachings, something was missing. I needed a practice that I felt connected to, something that connected me to the practices of my African and Indigenous ancestors. I felt some attraction to the 21 Divisions (Dominican Voodoo), Palo and Yoruba, but not as strong as the one I feel for Hoodoo. Root Work is the practice meant for me, and as with everything else in my life, I needed to go about it the right way. I started doing some research as to where I could learn from a respectful standpoint (I do not want to culturally appropriate or disrespect the tradition). That is what led me here. I want to learn as much as I can and meet other like-minded individuals who I can learn from. Thank you so much for creating this space! I am looking forward to all the things I will learn here and all the things this knowledge is going to make possible.
