Re: Frances Osborne HRCC Student Expelled Copyright Thief
So apparently Frances Osborne did take down her blog entry but then kept the content in a downloadable file that she now has available for everyone on her yahoo group to download. She even had the audacity in her yahoo group to place the blame on my shoulders saying that it was her content and apparently I thought it was "too similar" to hers.
She is either suffering from some type of vision ailment and is unable to see that there are whole paragraphs of directly copied information from my blog, or she is "a bit touched" as they say in the south.
In classic form she is vilifying me for standing up for my LEGAL RIGHTS TO OUR OWN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY and says that people should look out for those associated with Lucky Mojo.
Frances Osborne - to be VERY clear with you:
I asked you nicely to not use my copyrighted materials. You took them off of your website and put them in downloadable files on your yahoo group.
You have not complied with the law and are still using my content without permission. You are still in violation of copyright law. Yes I threatened to curse you for using my content, and you know what? I am going to curse you after all. You clearly don't want to operate within the limits of the law, you have no respect for the hard work of others and you think you can just take our own intellectual property and use it for whatever deluded things you have.
Frances Osborne is a thief.
Frances Osborne steals the writings of others for her own benefit.
Frances Osborne is deluding herself in thinking that the authors are the bad guys when we make her take down our copyrighted materials.
There is NO excuse for Frances Osborne's continuing flaunting of the law and disrespect of others.
I am going to teach her a painful lesson. I am going to curse Frances Osborne after all. Your rootwork isn't going to help you take this one off, baby.

Re: Frances Osborne HRCC Student Expelled Copyright Thief
Sara, there is a difference between plagiarism and copyright violation.
She is doing BOTH, but not always at the same time.
Copyright law gives the creator the sole right to copy (the copy right) and no one else can get that right from them except under license or by permission. Copyright violation is when she copies a text that she has no right to copy, with or without proper attribution of authorship.
It is standard practice (but not a legal requirement) to affix a copyright notice to a text. The copyright notice consists of a special mark (a small letter "c" within a circle or paired parentheses), a year-date, and the name of the person or legal entity whose sole right it is to copy the material or to grant a license or give permission to another entity to copy it. A subsidiary notice stating that the right to copy is being held or "reserved" by the named person or entity is often added, and it may include mention of specific forms of reproduction (copying) that are not allowed. This notice is not a legal necessity, but has a long tradition of use. A typical copyright notice looks like this:
(c) 2012 catherine yronwode. All rights reserved.
Plagiarism is a lesser included offense within copyright violation. Plagiarism is when she copies someone else's text or lightly "edits" it and places her name on it, pretending to be the author.
She may also on occasion engage in copyright fraud, by plagiarizing a text and then falsely affixing to it a copyright notice it in her own name. This shows definite mal-intent and can carry heavier penalties than mere plagiarism.
So, to summarize, sometimes she plagiarizes (falsely claims credit), sometimes she affixes fraudulent copyright notices to the material of other authors, and sometimes she gives credit to the author -- but giving credit does not matter because she has already infringed upon the author's sole right to copy (the copy right) by stealing the text and copying it at her site. In all three cases she has stolen the reserved right of reproduction of the text. That's against the law, and seriously so.
It would not be "easy" for her to satisfy copyright law by the means you indicated, because she is copying and distributing entire books verbatim, not just a "fair use" line or two here or there. To actually abide by the law, she would have to both stop plagiarizng and stop copying.
=====
Ah, Dr. E. -- that's the spirit.

Re: Frances Osborne HRCC Student Expelled Copyright Thief
After reading Dr. E's post mentioning yahoo groups, I thought: hmm I'd better make sure I'm not in any of her groups.
I checked - I belong to a yahoo group that appears to be run by her. I'm not sure how to tell who the admin is, but "befeathered" is the person who uploaded "Free Hoodoo Lessons" in 2010 to the texas_hoodoo yahoo group.
yahoo group: texas_hoodoo
In the links is an entire page dedicated to cat (not in a nice way), and then there are two links to Dr. E - the conjuredoctor and conjuredoctor.blogspot sites - which makes it appear as though the group is somewhat friendly toward LM.
Anyway, will be quitting the group now.

Re: Frances Osborne -- Expelled from HRCC for Mass Copyright Theft
I found something that I find very interesting, just giving a heads up. It seems Frances Osborne has been a busy girl in between her stealing of folks works. She and a young guy name Matt{he goes by Papa Matt} have started thier own idea of AIRR. They are also planning on making Texas a prime place to learn hoodoo with a festival, store and classes to boot. This guy contacted me before I went to Santa Cruz, wanting to come for a visit and see if I would compare notes. Just the feel of the e-mail mad me say no, plus I don't deal with strangers. I just find this all very interesting and thought I would share it.

Wow. Those worker bios don't inspire much confidence. I suppose it just goes to show that those who steal do so not just because they're lazy and have a sociopathic level of self-entitlement, but also because they aren't capable of coming up with anything on their own. That's a pretty sad website. Let's hope for the clients' sakes it stays that way and makes it easier to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Re: Frances Osborne -- Expelled from HRCC for Mass Copyright Theft
The funniest part for me was tat Frances Osborne says she is certified in "Mrs.Ruby's Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course."
When you look that up, you get this as part of the course outline. LOL!
=============================
Mrs. Ruby (course instructor)
Week 2 Outline
The lesser banishing ritual (LBR)
Banishing ritual of the Hexagram (BRH)
Middle pillar ritual
Opening & closing of the watchtower ritual
The tree of life (how to practically use it in magick)
The elements
Calculating planetary hours
Creating Sigils, Talismans & Amulets
Charging Sigils, Talismans & Amulets the proper way!
=============================
Totally hoodoo, man!

Re: Frances Osborne -- Expelled from HRCC for Mass Copyright Theft
That's part of her "High Magic Correspondence Course." Her Hoodoo course outline is more plausible sounding, but also looks like more of a cookbook approach.
There's one mention of Harry Hyatt; only ONE mention of graveyard work; NO mention of lodestones, unless they're mentioned in one of the many sections on love or money magic in week five.
And her "Hoodoo Workshop" website has NO free spells, NO equivalent to the marvelous Hoodoo In Theory and Practice, no acres of tidbits of life experience and erudition. Why, her spells cost $20 each. It's the Kenneth Fuller Plan for Success write very, very small.
Well, so I browsed around in the sidebar for a while. Most of these links are Q&A pages which don't impress me with any depth of knowledge but contain few obvious howlers ... oh, except this one:
One tpearson asks: "I'm working on a love lamp. I did everything right I got all the herbs associated with love and everything but I can't keep my hurricane lamp wick lit up unless I'm sitting in front of it constantly winding it. Is their anything else I can use to keep my wick from going out?"
Mrs. Ruby answers: "These types of lamps always have this problem. The best thing I can tell you is to keep the lamp full of oil. It will burn slower."
Can't imagine where *that* comes from. When I was using kerosene/lamp oil lamps, they burned trouble-free. I bet tpearson is using the wrong kind of fuel or wick or maybe both.
Anyway, I began by comparing my own AIRR page (because I thought I'd cut Mrs. Ruby's crew a little slack) with theirs.
Folks, y'all know I came to hoodoo in midlife, and to magic itself not even 20 years ago. And I'm head and shoulders above ANY of these folks, judging by their bio pages.
Why, Frances Osborne boasts of credentials that are either irrelevant ("my forebearers served in the army with Sam Houston") ... or not even earned yet ("In the fall of 2012, I'll be ... taking a certification course in Lay Pastoral Care" -- at a Unitarian Universalist church).
Why, she hasn't even been reading Tarot for as long as I have. What a shrinky-dink.
Schadenfreudaciously,
Michaele

Ah, thanks for the correction. The course is as follows:
=====================================================
Hoodoo Magic Course (learn rootwork)
This is a 6 week course. You do not need to purchase anything to turn in the homework. Homework is in the form of email questions.
You have up until 1 year from the date of purchase to turn in homework and receive a certificate by email. However, I will only answer questions concerning homework material during the 6 weeks you are actually enrolled in the course.
Learn to work powerful hoodoo spells sometimes within minutes. Put God's hands on it, if you really want!
The cost of the HM Course $189.99 US dollars

Saturday I had some visitors from Houston. We founded the Texas Alliance of Southern Traditions. This is for Texas only. I've been a worker here for over 35 years, no upstart like Frances Osborn or anyone else is moving in just miles from where I'm at. I hope I have y'all's support but if not I'm cool with that too. I've been thinking about this for a long time and now it has happened; even if I was pushed into it. On my Bio page on the site I will add links to The Folk Magic Festival and to AIRR. I will also speak of both of them every chance I get. I felt like I had to do this and I did.

Direct Copy of Info from HRCC
Hi Miss Cat,
doing some research on spiritual bathing I came upon the following web page that had a direct page of baths from the HRCC book, un-referenced: http://hoodoo-conjure.com/recipes/bath-recipes.htm
There are also referenced quotes from Leah Rivera's site, although I don't know if she allowed it.
It felt off so I thought I'd report it.

Re: Frances Osborne HRCC Student Expelled Copyright Thief
Thanks, Aura.
It's Frances Osborne again. I merged your post into the Frances Osborne topic thread, You can tell it's her because she offers tarot readings and when you click the "buy it now" button, her name comes up.
She does this every few years. She apologized once and said she would not do it again.
She's doing it again.
It will take some time to get all of the copyright infringements taken down again, but nagasiva and i will persist until they are removed.
We may have to shame her through her public reputation in her church again.
We may have to shame her in front of her pagan friends again.
We may have to threaten a lawsuit against her and her internet service provider.
We may have to approach Paypal with a complaint and ask them to stop accepting payments at her site, since the site consists of copyright violations and she has done this so often.
Whatever steps we take, we know that the law is on our side -- and by "our," i mean all of us whose copyrights she is violating -- and we will prevail.
Those of you who know Frances Osborne, please try to get her to stop again. She is destroying herself and her own reputation on the internet, in Texas, and in her home town.
Her behaviour is so self-defeating and self-wounding that it seems to be mentally unbalanced. I say this because no one of normal logical perceptiveness would violate a group people's copyrights over and over and over again, knowing that each time she does it she will be brought before the public as a law-breaker, and further records of her offenses will appear online.
I note with sadness that i, alas, remain the center of Frances Osborne's bizarre fantasy life, in which she imagnes herself to be a hoodoo practitioner. This time her copyright infringement site bears the tagline, "How Lucky is Your Mojo?" That's pathetic.
Frances Osborne, please, please, get help.

Re: Frances Osborne HRCC Student Expelled Copyright Thief
I have started to notice, just recently, that she has decided to reemerge and start chatting in groups, and with people, on Facebook. She constantly claims that she is a victim, while continuously choosing the path of fakery, plagiarism, and a lazy disregard for others hard work and research. Truly a pathetic human being.

Re: Frances Osborne HRCC Student Expelled Copyright Thief
Joseph, I saw it too. I joined a group on Facebook and she "welcomed" me into the group.
I got out of the group because of her hideous reputation.
She has a weird obsession with Cat.
I do know for a fact that she has been cursed by someone very powerful, this person has taken down extremely wealthy people and a big time celebrity.
On top of that, a Dr. E.curse!!
She's dammed for a long long time.
It looks to me like the curses have begun to take. She is going mad.

Frances Osborne has resurfaced again. She is now one of the administrators for a group called "Hoodoo Arts" on Facebook. The group has over 2000 members. https://www.facebook.com/groups/hoodooarts/

Oh my G-O-S-H, I just left that group! I knew there was something off about it. There are some nice people, but I found I was doing more educating, than learning, & the admins kept trash talking Lucky Mojo. Like a few other people would discuss some LM products w/ me, or I'd link the HITAP for somebody requesting more knowledge & one of the admins would always have something negative to say. Glad I left it now!
