How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers

Negative vibrations is what I call them...as long as your husband is fine and doesn't bother your spellwork you are a step above.

Burning candles aren't always done in secret. Heck, ever walk into a candle shop? Some of them burn candles right out in their front window!
In your case, as long as your husband isn't tampering with things, you should be fine.

Probably a silly question but when you are doing a cleansing for yourself or any sort of rootwork do you need to keep this a secret from everyone or can you share the experience with some close friends and family members?

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
Well, I have no need to hide my work, and I'm often doing work on behalf of other people which can be seen. I don't discuss details about ongoing work, but if my husband sees candles or bottles or other things as they are working, it's no big deal. And I always let him know when I am doing a cleansing, so that he can participate.

I was raised in the practice that your rootwork and anything activity related to soul work should be treated at private information. Not secret but private and you only discuss it amongst people in your immediate circle. If you talk about it too much then you unravel the working and let loose the power of it working well. There is my two cents

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
Hey, i grew up in a community where people spoke about the theory and practice of rootwork openly and pretty much daily.
Girls and women especially shared (with plenty of giggles) what exactly they were using on their men.
The conversation at the candle shops was never conducted in hushed whispers at all -- people would volunteer ideas to you and tell you your business if they felt they had the answers you needed to hear.
Now, i am sure that these same folks kept SOME of their business hid -- especially enemy work or bad work of an underhanded nature. But they would still share *ideas* with you, even on killing spells.
So, i guess it really depends on your culture. African American culture is fairly open about hoodoo and rootwork in MOST areas of the country, with the notable exception of North Carolina, where it is very much on the down-low.
If rootwork were always kept secret, we would not have so many dang songs about it recorded -- and there are hundreds of these songs, dating from the earliest recording by Black musicians to the present.
See my web site "Blues Lyrics and Hoodoo" for plenty of examples, many with audible mp3 files attached:
http://luckymojo.com/blues.html
And, as an example, enjoy this little reference, which tells a true story:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxzjQ_JrxMk
Then read the entire story in context here, including the actual name of the "hoodoo woman" in the song!
http://www.southern-spirits.com/morton- ... leans.html
So, as you can see, the fact that Aaron Harris had a rootworker -- and her name, and the type of work she did for him -- was well known in New Orleans at the time, and has come down to us, open, not secret, and openly revealed, through the voice of Jelly Roll Morton!

I don't tell anyone what I'm doing. Of course, that doesn't prevent me from giving general advice. For example, I wouldn't say "I'm doing a Stop Gossip spell to shut someone up," but would say "To shut someone up, use Stop Gossip."

I talk to my husband or my daughters about what I'm doing-clears my head, gives me a perspective. They are pretty wise for their years so their advice is pretty spot on. We all work together in this house. Typically what I do is centered around keeping the homeplace place running, money coming in, health and happiness, etc. So we all have opinions on that, here!
On occasion, I will keep myself to myself if I feel I should, though.

Interesting... I'd not heard of conjure being hush-hush in NC before. People seem rather open about it in my neck of the woods. There was even an enormous billboard on HWY 11 between Kinston and Grifton promoting Enam's Spiritual Shop in Grifton (until Hurricane Irene blew the sign down). The billboard featured Mr. Jones in his best suit and declared "The Largest Spiritual Store on the East Coast"-- I doubt that claim, but it is a large store. At least here in Eastern NC I've not experienced any sort of secrecy about conjure.

You know that's an interesting point, cat. I didn't recall much secrecy when I ment people from NC, but now that you mention it in hindsight they *were* more reluctant to share and talk than other people in the country. In fact, there seemed to be more hang ups on what this stuff was called. Calling it conjure or hoodoo seemed to have negative connotations. More of the people I talked to called it "prayer work" or "praying on someone" with some calling it "roots." Interesting!

Personally I have just told certain close friends that I am cleansing my spiritual self and blessing my home. These seem to be universal beliefs in many cultures so it's no big deal.
If I am doing a job on someone or have someone else doing a job that I do not reveal to anyone just in case it should get to the ears of the target somehow.Unfortunately life has taught me that very few people can be trusted and I have been disappointed by many in the past so for me it's best to just keep certain things to myself.
My best to all and thank you for your responses and thoughts

I think you go with your comfort level. For some things that you do in life (not just in hoodoo) you tell only your close friends, other things you tell anyone. Let your inner guidance be your "meter" as to what you should and shouldn't reveal.

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
So I pulled some cards this morning on hotfooting someone. It came out that I should be attacking her mentally/emotionally. I need to hide my work I know bay leaves are good for this. I need to weaken her too. SO...help me with a plan please.
Off hand I have LM herbs- Barberry, knotweed, calamus, alum, licorice, poppy seeds, black mustard seeds, sulphur. I have LM oils- confusion, inflammatory confusion, essence bend ova, hot foot.
I was thinking restless oil? I have absolutely no experience with restless oil so if someone experienced with working this oil could chime in I would appreciate it. I was going to order some red ants...oh and I have devils dung...
Should I work a freezer jar with knotweed, alum, poppy seeds, calamus, licorice, barberry? Then do a skull candle or doll baby to influence her mind?
I know I defiently need to cover my tracks / hide my work from her. her emotions are her weak point...so I need to weaken her, make her vulnerable and completly destroy her mentally and emotionally...

To hide your work on someone, put a bay leaf at each corner of the room. You can also do a "five spot" of Bay leaves around your actual work: think a star shape.
For attacking her emotions or mental states, I'd try a skull candle dressed with poppy and black mustard seeds, along with Confusion and Inflammatory Confusion oils. You may want to try working on the candle when she's sleeping, so as to influence her subconcious.
Good luck,
Mary Bee

MaryBee, once again you come through with simple yet powerful ideas
My only suggestion is to dress those Bay Leaves of Invisibility with Law Keep Away, which brings privacy to many more things than just criminal enterprises.
Hope this helps,

Whoever told you that burning candles has to be done in secret is ignorant. VERY ignorant. 'Nuff said.
Lee and all, regarding NC: Sorry if i was unclear. When i travelled through NC, the word "hoodoo" was looked upon askance. Of course "spiritual work" and "helping yourself" were okay. The problem seemed to just be about the word "hoodoo."
Years (decades) later, a woman from NC whom i met in Santa Rosa, California, shushed me when i said the word. "Don't CALL it that!" was her annoyed comment. I asked her where she was from and she said, "I'm from North Carolina, and we DO NOT USE THAT WORD."
I have found the same thing more than once in student homework -- some folks from NC prefer to call it "conjure."
So that's been my experience.

Personally, this ignorance transcends many spiritual elements. I am a Reader and I have had many clients tell me that they were told by other readers, that if they tell anyone anything about their reading, their predictions won't come true. Ignorant people, spreading BS. And, it is usually people who have no idea, or experience with such matters.

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
Well, if you can keep quiet about it good. If you want to talk about it it seems to be fine too. Probably all depends on the individual. It is very possible to do conjure/some ritual outdoors with people looking at you as they pass by and the magic still manifests.
Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
I live in a SMALL town in the midst of the Bible Belt, so everything I do - which is a hodgepodge - I keep to myself. My very best friend knows I do my "rituals", or voodoo, as I call it, but around here, you just cannot let anyone know what you are doing for fear of being branded a "witch" in league with the devil. People are extremely closed-minded here. I am trying to learn more about hoodoo and voodoo, but most of what I do comes by inspiration from my Irish, Scottish, and English blood. I don't know where the inspiration to do what I do comes from except from my venerated ancestors. I am eager to learn more, but I have to do it all in secret. (Although at times I will make a "joke" to a person that If someone aggravates me enough, I'm going to do my "voodoo" on them. I know that noone has yet taken those little comments seriously.)
Any help from ANYONE here in the forums would be MOST appreciated!! Blessings to all!!

IamIsis--
I can sympathize; I've lived in the same little Bible Belt town for most of the last 25 years. When I was a teenager, I made cute comments about the stuff I was practicing, but as I've gotten older, I've learned to appreciate my privacy, both in my work, and in general.
If you're interested in traditional hoodoo, this is the place. Miss cat's free book, Hoodoo in Theory and Practice, covers a lot.
http://www.luckymojo.com/hoodoo.html
If you don't have a copy of her print book, Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic, I'd highly recommend it.
http://www.luckymojo.com/hoodooherbmagic.html
And, she also teaches a course in traditional hoodoo. You can find information about it here:
http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocourse.html
Along with everything else, read through the forum, ask questions. There are professional workers, and amateur practitoners of all skill levels here. There is a lot to be learned, and a lot of good people to learn from.

Oh yes, you're absolutely correctly Miss Cat, here in North Carolina the word "hoodoo" is not common. And when it is used it almost always means "evil work".

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
I have a question about the "bad" mojos (for ex. Hot Foot, Crossing).
How would one put them to use as far as Crossing or Hot Footing a person?
Do you give them as "gifts" along with the bottle of (crossing, hot foot) oil and tell them to annoint the bag every week along with a prayer (like the positive mojos)?
Or would one just plant them in someone's home or job and annoint them periodically with the oil and prayer whenever they got a chance?
I know that they have to be "fed" in order to stay active and am curious as to how one would convince or make sure a person is annointing the bag in order to bring on and keep the crossed condition going.
I would also imagine the little bottle of oil would be unlabeled.
How does this work?

Yes, this has been a discussion on the forum. Gifts, deployed on cards, gifts, sprinkled in cars, under desks, at front door etc etc etc the list goes on.

One way is to give them as "lucky" gifts. This is why we began making them -- folks wanted them to use that way.

Well, whichever way you decide to go -- when you resume your work, you might make a dollbaby on her just to blindfold it, so she can't see what you're doing.

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
My wish has been guessed two times already. Does it mean I should forget about it? Does it mean all spells relating to that wish will not work anymore? I am worrying because I am aware that I should not reveal my wish to anyone.
I would also like to recall a very short experience.
When I was desperately in need, I took a pen and a paper and while I was writing my wish, there was a rush of wind entering the room where I worked. It hit me and I felt like it entered my whole body. It enveloped me. I don't really know how to describe but a rush of wind came over me. Was it a good wind? Or a bad spirit perhaps?
After that, I developed a sense of fear in performing a spell. Why are there spells which need a circle to be cast and why there are those which need not? Is it really necessary to cast a circle?
Lastly, I have a lodestone. It is supposed to be a lucky charm to attract money. I wore it for one month without results so I just hang it beside the bed. Can I re-program it? I mean can I re-use it for another spell?
Thank you so much.

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
This isn't a hard and fast rule in conjure -- which is the tradition this forum is based on. Of course you don't want to talk about putting a spell on someone if there's a chance your target will find out. But otherwise, talking about your spiritual work, especially with people who understand the work, could bring good advice about how to improve your work.heavenleigh wrote:My wish has been guessed two times already. Does it mean I should forget about it? Does it mean all spells relating to that wish will not work anymore? I am worrying because I am aware that I should not reveal my wish to anyone.
If your wish was "guessed" by people who had no idea you were doing spell work, and no idea you were wishing for anything -- these might have been omens that power was moving in your direction.
Do you do divination for yourself? Why not use it to answer your questions about your magical work?
Did your spell bring the desired results?I would also like to recall a very short experience.

You may need some cleansing and protection work, and to work with Crucible of Courage products. After that, I developed a sense of fear in performing a spell.
There's no circle-casting in conjure; that's a Wiccan tradition. This isn't a Wiccan forum, so you'll have to pose this question elsewhere. Why are there spells which need a circle to be cast and why there are those which need not? Is it really necessary to cast a circle?
Hope this helps,

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
Dear Miss Michaele,
Thank you so much for your kindest reply. I greatly appreciate it. Your message really helps erase all these clouds on my mind.
It was just that - any casual conversation I was into, there was always a point on which my personal wish was mentioned ( as if they guessed it right). But these people did not know that I was wishing for it so I feel good now. Thank you again.
I do not do divination.
I have launched 2 spells (one for a loadstone and one for a charm bag) without seeing nor feeling any favorable result . All I got was dreaming of dead, dried fishes. Tons of dead fishes, black smoke. Things like that. The loadstone is still with me while the charm bag I already buried.
You are right again, I am convinced that I need some cleansing and protection works. But is it before or after?
I would like to mention, once again, that when I try conjure, there is always a rush of wind getting its way in the room. Why?
One time while waiting for the bus, I recited a Psalm, I felt the rush of wind hitting all over me that I needed to stop.
Honestly, I hope I don't sound crazy, I feel like someone or something is preventing me from achieving my goal. I feel like “someone” is watching me.
And honestly, I would like that you can tell me, that all these are perfectly normal. And it is just on my mind. That I am just elaborating for nothing. So that I can move on educating myself to conjure works.
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your kindest reply. I greatly appreciate it. Your message really helps erase all these clouds on my mind.

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
I did my very best to go through the forums and find the best place for this question. And I think it's here... So if not, I apologize in advance and hopefully it gets moved into the correct spot to avoid confusion.
A friend and I were having this discussion before a few weeks back, based on a series we saw. The premise is this: a high school student finds a notebook from another realm, and if you write a name in that notebook, the person dies. (If you know the series I mean, kudos to you.)
From what I was told, you can imbue items with magickal properties and such. Is it possible to make such an item? How would someone do this?
And if so, does Karma come into play for using it or?
I ask for mostly educational purposes, as I don't think I could actually go forward with doing anything that might actually end a life. I'd have to be REALLY angry to do that, and that rarely happens.
Can hoodoo really have something like that exist? I mean, people take herbs and bags and small charms or simple jars of honey and make mojo hands or sweet jars full of energy and endless possibilities. I find it amazing.
So, please, share your thoughts. Thank you.

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
Karma is a concept from Eastern religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism. Hoodoo originated with African-American (mostly Protestant) Christians, and in this tradition, negative work must be justified before God, and cleansing performed afterward.
Objects can be fixed with powder, oils, herbs, and prayer and given as gifts for various purposes, including crossing someone up. I suppose one could put DUME (Death Unto My Enemies) powder or oil on something and give or send it to an enemy.

Bosslady77,
I doubt that merely sending someone a black rose will give him or her bad luck, any more than sending a potential lover a red rose will cause that person to fall in love with you.
The rose would have to be tricked somehow. Since roses do not actually come in black, it might be a silk rose, one that is dressed or fixed with a curse.

Bosslady,
One consideration is to get a "sneaky trick" Mojo Bag. Requested at the time of purchase, a Mojo is disguised as a "lucky" hand when in reality it is a negative mojo such as a Crossing. Best of luck.

Breetastic: You are speaking of the manga and anime series Death Note, correct? While it is a very creative and entertaining series, it is pretty fantastical and one would have to be an extremely well learned conjure man or woman to have such drastic results happen time after time, to many targets, in such a constant way. Theoretically it *could* be attempted.

Yes!
I was wondering if I'm a bit too young for many of the forum to know what I'm talking about. ^^;
Huh, that's fascinating indeed... That's very crazy.

Some of us old folks are pretty cool. I have been interested in, and a collector of, anime and manga since 1990. Started with Eclipse comics reprinting of Area 88, and most important of all, Mai, the Psychic Girl.

Wow, you guys really are hip to what's cool. :3
I haven't heard of those animes before (born 1992 so I'm a Toonami kid), so I'll have to look into them.
DUME oil or powder... Does that -really- work? I don't doubt its power or anything, just a bit afraid of how final that can be.
So, theoretically, one can put this on something and then send it to an enemy, but one can't put it on an item of theirs and have it work the same without the user reaping the effects, right?
I'm guessing that it would have to take either a lot of work, or even just a completely different spell system to have an actual Death Note...

Bosslady77 --
Papa Newt gave you a great idea.
Tricking a black silk rose could be done by smoking it in incense, such as
Crossing Incense
Damnation Incense
Destruction Incense
D.U.M.E. Incense
Jinx Incense
Revenge Incense

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
Breetastic,
Well, as far as this world is concerned, death is the last stop. Again, karma is a concept from Eastern religions. In hoodoo, if the work is justified before God and the worker cleanses himself or herself, there should be no bad effects. The test is "would I put a gun to this person's head and shoot without hesitation?" In some cases, yes. If some low-life scum invaded my home and threatened me or any member of my family, I would show no mercy.
Whether it would be difficult depends, as other work does, on the skill of the practioner, whether or not the target is protected, unknown factors, and God's will.

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
Breetastic,
Well, short of death, there are many ways you can cross a person up.
You certainly could fix an object to affect anyone (or any of a particular type) who touches it. But I generally do blessing work this way; I've been fixing dollar bills to change homeless people's luck for a number of years now.
And it's certainly possible to do sneaky tricks with dressed gifts. There's even a hoodoo formula called Double Cross: http://www.luckymojo.com/products-double-cross.html
In the Death Note series, the power of the notebook enables Light Yagami to kill wicked folks magically simply by keeping a list.
Hoodoo folks might keep a list, but they'd use it as the basis for more complicated work; DUME candles, doll babies, mirror boxes, etc.
Hope this helps,
Miss Michaele

Mai, the Psychic Girl (collecting the entire series and re-re-re-reading them often) had a large hand in helping this hermit High School Book Nerd get through all 4 years. I absolutely LOVED each issue. Such a wonderful story and protagonist. Thank you Eclipse!

This is what I would do with the black rose: Dress with LM oils or powder such as Crossing, Revenge, Destruction, or DUME if you want to cause the person death

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
If you are already on unfriendly terms with this person, an attempt to give him a gift will likely make him suspicious. He may refuse it.
Take some innocent, innocuous item -- something small, like a good-quality ballpoint pen or a five-dollar bill. Dress it with Jinx, DUME, Crossing, Double Cross, Run Devil Run, Hot Foot, or whatever nasty stuff seems appropriate. Then leave this innocent-looking, useful object where he will find it and gladly pick up.
On further thought, I think the pen or other useful object will be better than money -- which he would spend and pass on. Let it be something that he will use and keep.
Hope this helps,
Miss Michaele

Don't know much about manga/anime, but I will say that such objects can be created. I tend towards making magical objects, fixed, and imbued with spirits to carry out macro-magics.

Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
Hi, I am pretty new (just waiting for my first order of supplies, so I haven't done any of the work yet) - so forgive this newbie question! I am wondering, am I right that this work is always done entirely in secret and that you wouldn't tell anyone about it?? I am thinking of situations where I would like to do something to help someone, such as my friend who is suffering a divorce. Cat suggested the black walnut spell (in another thread), but I couldn't really ask him to go through that procedure (because he would think I was crazy, right?). So would I do the black walnut spell myself, but be thinking of him, so that it would apply to him? Or can you really only act an elaborate spell like that on your own behalf?
Another example: I would like to help my daughter find a boyfriend. But can I do a whole spell on her behalf (bathing before dawn, etc.), or does it have to be her that does it? Otherwise, I guess I can burn incense and dressed candles with intention, and no one would know . . . There must be many discreet and secret ways to enact helpful work for others - can you share any that you have done?
Thanks!

"there are no stupid questions" - challenge accepted!
Re: How to Work Sneaky Tricks and Hidden Spells Questions and Answers
The work is generally done in secret. I wouldn't do the black walnut spell unless YOU were looking to cut yourself off from your friend. You could make a doll baby out of plastic or get a doll that represents him that is washable and make a bath to bathe the dolly in. Instead of Black Walnut (which is a very personal bath)I'd use Separation and Healing products to encourage a peaceful divorce.
I'd encourage your daughter to do spells herself to find a boyfriend, although you lighting candles on her behaf for a nice man to show up wouldn't hurt
Good luck,
Mary Bee

Hi catherinejoan, your thread has been merged into the ongoing thread on spell-casting in secret that has some insights and experiences which may help.
