Greetings from West Africa

Unread post by Orisaoya » Wed Sep 05, 2012 9:28 am

Bawoni (Hello), I am new to LM but I have been listening to the archives for the past year since I discovered it. I am born in the states, but live in Nigeria with my husband. I have found that hoodoo is very similar to the ATR practiced over here. I look forward to learning and sharing and here on the forum. I also hope to be accepted into the LM correspondence course soon. Peace, love and light. :D

Hello, Orisaioya,

Nice to see you here, but unfortunately we do not ship either products or books to Nigeria or to anywhere else in Africa except to the nation of South Africa, due to repeated problems with national customs laws and with packages being stolen and mis-delivered. We will be happy to serve you, but you will have to arrange for trans-shipment to Nigeria yourself, preferably through a USA address to which we can ship.

I understand that hoodoo may seem similar to an ATR (African Traditional Religion) as practiced in Africa or in the USA, but it is not actually a religion; rather it is the magical practices of African Americans (mostly from the Congo) who are mostly Protestant Christians and have lived in the USA for hundreds of tyears, which is why it also includes a great deal of Native American and European folk-magical techniques as well.

Please see some of the threads about my course and about religion for more on the subject of what i teach and also how hoodoo fits into the Baptist church more than into Lukumi, in terms of practices and theology

Good luck!

Hi Miss Cat. Thank you for the response. However, I need to clarify some things. I only point out the similarity of Hoodoo to the practices here in Africa as ATR, because that is the term most Africans in America are familiar with. Without going into too much detail about the spiritual practices of Ifa in the Yoruba culture, and because I am born and raised in the USA with my family roots stem from the southern states, I am very much aware of the tradition and culture of rootworkers, having relatives who were blessed with the knowledge of nature and its magick. I commute on a monthly basis between Africa and the states for my job and do own a residence in the states as well as Africa, so I know how the customs headaches can be for shipping. I have ordered several products from LM at this point and I will say again, I am looking forward to learning, growing and sharing in my knowledge of what is being shared here in the forums and the correspondence course.
